Firewall Ports
Port 1503 and 3389 cannot be added per MS Firewall
instructions, says already used by something else. Video
works fine, audio is only one way (XP and 6.1 to XP and
6.1). Could this conflict be causing audio problem? Tag: MSN problem Tag: 37003
MSN Msgr won't allow Webcam To Start ???
Win xp home machine. Webcam worked yesterday, but not
today. Haven't done any updates (except to update to 6.1
in hopes of solving the problem). Just stopped working.
If I click on the webcam to send an invite, it sends it,
then says I canceled it.
Anyone have any ideas around this?
Thanks

Contacting Microsoft?
I found a bug in Messenger that I want to point out to
Microsoft so they can fix, but I can't find any contact e-
mail addresses. They have an online suggestion/complaint
webform available but that doesn't seem to work. I don't
want to post details in the newsgroups allowing others to
exploit the weakness. Thanks Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36997

Problems with Web Cam Video
I am running XP pro and the other party is running XP
home. We both are using MSN 6.0. I have a cable modem and
they are only a 56K modem. We start up a conversation and
web cam is good quality but slow. Maybe a new frame every
five seconds and sometimes every 10 seconds. The audio
quality is good. I am in the US and the other party is in
Colombia SA. The web cam disconnects about every five or
ten minutes but the audio remains ok. We click on web cam
and it comes back until it decides to disconnect again.
It will disconnet only from one end but the end that
disconnets appears to be random.
When the conversation begins we start only with audio.
The audio is always bad in the beginning but it improves
when the web cam button is clicked? Any ideas? Would it
be good to upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1 because maybe there is
a bug that was fixed for the web cam problem? Jonathan
previously indicated the difference between 6.0 and 6.1.
But I got confused. Did 6.1 introduce bugs or fix
them ... thanks for you answers Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36995
Voice Conversation Issue
Can not have an audio/voice conversation with another
computer. Tried with Windows Messenger 5.0 and MSN
Messenger 6.1. Can send invitation. After the other
party accepts the invitation a message is eventually
provided that says the voice conversation has ended when
nothing actually started. Can have a voice conversation
via Yahoo Messenger. Turned off all firewalls. Still no
progress. Any suggestions? Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36993

Cannot connect to Messenger; 0x81000301
Hey, after reading a few posts, i realize quite a few
people are having the same problem as me. Two days ago i
couldn't connect to MSN Messenger 6.0, so i downloaded the
upgrade to 6.1 and i still cannot connect. The message I
receive everytime after several seconds of attempting to
connect is:
"We were unable to sign you in to .NET Messenger Service,
possibly because of a problem with the service or with
your Internet connection. Please make sure that you are
connected to the Internet. 0x81000301"
I've tried many suggests, such as delete my internet
offline files, deleting cookies, clearing internet temp
folders and reinstalling several times. I tried many
versions, ranging from Windows original messenger (4.7),
5.0, 6.0 and 6.1 again. My internet connection works fine
so i don't know what's wrong with this Messenger...
Any suggestions or fixes for this problem would be
appreciated! Thanks in advance!

regustry keys?
Anyone know what all the registry keys are for MSNMessenger 6?
I have a very weird problem that must be a registry issue. I've been in
contact with MSNmessenger help and they seemed stumped so i thought i'd
ask here, and maybe I'd get a real answer instead of the "Canned"
answers that "help" offers.
here is the trouble (I'm quoting the first inquiry I made to MSNM...6
help) I'll be happy ot post the entire discussion with them up to this
point if you want to see it, but it is mostly useless.
---copied---
I can't change any options in MSNMessenger. I get an error that says
'The number in the 'minutes' box must be 1 or greater. To turn off the
activity detector, please clear the check box.'
Well the checkbox is grayed out, I can't check or uncheck it. If you
want to see a screenshot of what I mean go here
www.inthemailbox.com/invite/messenger.jpg
How do I fix that?!?
I'm cool with registry keys and such but i couldn't find anything that
looked obvious, but if it is a key, then tell me what and where. Thanks

Sending files kills recipient's internet connection
So far I like MSN Messenger 6.1 in terms of video-conferencing (can't think
why video isn't one of the icons on the main toolbar though).
However, when I try sending a file to a contact (I'm on XP Home, he's on XP
Pro), it gets 60% or so through and then my contact looses his internet
connection and has to reset his router.
This seems like a serious problem. Can anyone advise?

GREAT WAY TO MAKE MONEY-READ THIS!!!!!!

HOW TO TURN $6 INTO $6,000!!!!!!
READING THIS COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try=20
it. A little
while back, I was browsing through newsgroups, just=20
like you are now,
and came across an article similar to this that=20
said you could make
thousands of dollars within weeks with only an=20
initial investment of
$6.00! So I thought, Yeah right, this must be a=20
scam,but
like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading.=20
Anyway, it said
that you send $1.00 to each of the 6 names and=20
address stated in the
article. You then place your own name and address=20
in the bottom of
the list at #6, and post the article in at least=20
200 newsgroups.
(There are thousands) No catch, that was it. So=20
after thinking it
over, and talking to a few people first, I thought=20
about trying it. I
figured: what have I got to lose except 6 stamps=20
and $6.00,
right? Then I invested the measly $6.00. Well GUESS=20
WHAT!!...
within 7 days, I started getting money in the mail!=20
I was shocked! I
figured it would end soon, but the money just kept=20
coming in. In my
first week, I made about $25.00. By the end of the=20
second week I had
made a total of over $1,000.00! In the third week I=20
had over
$10,000.00 and it's still growing. This is now my=20
fourth week and I
have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it's=20
still coming in
rapidly. It's certainly worth $6.00, and 6 stamps,=20
I have spent more
than that on the lottery!! Let me tell you how this=20
works and most
importantly, why it works....Also, make sure you=20
print a copy of this
article NOW, so you can get the information off of=20
it as you need it.
I promise you that if you follow the directions=20
exactly, that you
will start making more money than you thought=20
possible by doing
something so easy!
Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully!=20
(print it out or
download it.) Follow the simple directions and=20
watch the money come in!
It's easy. It's legal. And, your investment is only=20
$6.00 (Plus postage)
IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off; it is not=20
indecent; it is not
illegal; and it is virtually no risk - it really=20
works!!!!
If all of the following instructions are adhered=20
to, you will receive
extraordinary dividends.
PLEASE NOTE:
Please follow these directions EXACTLY, and $50,000=20
or more can be
yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains=20
successful because of
the honesty and integrity of the participants.=20
Please continue its
success by carefully adhering to the instructions.
You will now become part of the Mail Order=20
business. In this business
your product is not solid and tangible, it's a=20
service. You are in
the business of developing Mailing Lists. Many=20
large corporations are
happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However,=20
the money made
from the mailing lists is secondary to the income=20
which is made from
people like you and me asking to be included in=20
that list.
Here are the 4 easy steps to success:
STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper and write=20
the following on=20
each piece of paper;PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING=20
LIST. Now
get 6 US $1.00 bills and place ONE inside EACH of=20
the 6 pieces of
paper so the bill will not be seen through the=20
envelope (to prevent
thievery). Next, place one paper in each of the 6=20
envelopes and seal
them. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each=20
with a piece of
paper stating the above phrase, your name and=20
address, and a $1.00
bill. What you are doing is creating a service.=20
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY
LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and=20
you are paying for
it! Like most of us I was a little skeptical and a=20
little worried
about the legal aspects of it all. So I checked it=20
out with the U.S.
Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed=20
that it is indeed
legal! Mail the 6 envelopes to the following=20
addresses:
#1) Joshua A. Goff
RT. 1 Box 406
Keysville, VA 23947
#2) Jeff Millan
1113 N. 19 =BD
McAllen,TX 78501
#3) R. Overton
P.O. Box 18818
So. Lake Tahoe, CA 96151
#4) John Chan
22 Orchard Street
New York, NY 10002
#5) Stephanie Hicks
1283 Evening Canyon
Henderson NV 89014
#6) Spikey
24 Tymaen Crescent, Cwmafan
Port Talbot
South Wales, UK SA12 9EA
STEP 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you=20
see above, move
the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4,=20
etc...) and add YOUR
Name as number 6 on the list.
STEP 3: Change anything you need to, but try to=20
keep this article as
close to original as possible. Now, post your=20
amended article to at
least 200 newsgroups. (I think there are close to=20
24,000 groups) All
you need is 200, but remember, the more you post,=20
the more money you make!
This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts,=20
refer to Title 18
Sec. 1302 & 1341 of the Postal lottery laws.
Keep a copy of these steps for yourself and,=20
whenever you need money,
you can use it again, and again.
PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains=20
successful because of the
honesty and integrity of the participants and by=20
their carefully
adhering to the directions. Look at it this way. If=20
you are of
integrity, the program will continue and the money=20
that so many
others have received will come your way.
NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address=20
sent to you,
either on a computer or hard copy and keep the=20
notes people send you.
This VERIFIES that you are truly providing a=20
service. (Also, it might
be a good idea to wrap the $1 bill in dark paper to=20
reduce the risk of mail theft.)
So, as each post is downloaded and the directions=20
carefully followed,
six members will be reimbursed for their=20
participation as a List
Developer with one dollar each. Your name will move=20
up the list
geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1=20
position you will
be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!! What=20
an opportunity for
only $6.00 ($1.00 for each of the first six people=20
listed above) Send
it now, add your own name to the list and you're in=20
business!
---DIRECTIONS ----- FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS---
---------
Step 1) You do not need to re-type this entire=20
letter to do your own
posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of=20
this letter and
drag your cursor to the bottom of this document,=20
and select 'copy'
from the edit menu. This will copy the entire=20
letter into the
computer's memory.
Step 2) Open a blank 'notepad' file and place your=20
cursor at the top
of the blank page. From the 'edit' menu=20
select 'paste'. This will
paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you=20
can add your name
to the list.=20
Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt file.=20
If
you want to do your postings in different settings,=20
you'll always
have this file to go back to.
Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try=20
searching for
various newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards,=20
chat sites,
discussions.)
Step 5) Visit these message boards and post this=20
article as a new
message by highlighting the text of this letter and=20
selecting paste
from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will=20
be the header that
everyone sees as they scroll through the list of=20
postings in a
particular group, click the post message button.=20
You're done with
your first one! Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All=20
you have to do is
jump to different newsgroups and post away, after=20
you get the hang of
it, it will take about 30 seconds for each=20
newsgroup!=20
**REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE=20
MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A
MINIMUM OF 200**=20
That's it! You will begin receiving money from=20
around the world within days! You may eventually want to=20
rent a P.O.Box due to the large amount of mail you
will receive. If
you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name=20
to use, as long as
the postman will deliver it.=20
**JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.**
Now the WHY part:
Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies=20
(a very low example). So then I made $5.00 with my name=20
at #6 on the letter. Now, each of the 5 persons
who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200
postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5=20
persons respond to each
of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me,=20
now those 25 each
make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4 and only=20
5 replies each, I
will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125=20
persons turn
around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #3=20
and only receive 5
replies each, I will make an additional $626.00!=20
OK, now here is the
fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM=20
200 letters with
my name at #2 and they each only receive 5 replies,=20
that just made me
$3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver=20
this message to 200
newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5=20
persons per 200
newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With an=20
original
investment of only $6.00! AMAZING! When your name=20
is no longer on the
list, you just take the latest posting in the=20
newsgroups, and send=20
out another $6.00 to names on the list, putting=20
your name at number 6
again. And start posting again. The thing to=20
remember is: do you
realize that thousands of people all over the world=20
are joining the
internet and reading these articles everyday?, JUST=20
LIKE YOU are
now!! So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really=20
works?? I think
so... People have said, "e;what if the plan is=20
played out and no
one sends you the money? So what! What are the=20
chances of that
happening when there are tons of new honest users=20
and new honest
people who are joining the internet and newsgroups=20
everyday and are
willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000=20
to 50,000 new
users, every day, with thousands of those joining=20
the actual
internet.=20
Remember: play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will=20
really
work. Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36972

problems with launch site
I've just recently started having problems with playing
the launch site games on messenger 6.0
I've been getting an error message about not being able
to install activeX components, but before you tell me to
change my settings in internet explorer, I've already
done that, but to no avail.
The thing is, this is only a recent problem, in that in
only started happening around a week ago, and everything
had been working fine before then.
I have installed a new game or two in the last week, but
I don't see how that would affect messenger. Does anyone
have any idea on what I could do?
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling messenger,
but that didn't seem to work either.
Thanks,
Nick. Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36927

6.1/XP and 6.1/W2K Doesn't Work with Voice
I've been talking with my son who was using MSN Messenger 4.7/XP; I am using
MSN Messenger 6.1 and W2K using voice chat.
The XP end has a hardware router (Linksys BEFSR41) with applicable ports
opened for 4.7. The W2K end is a dial-up with ZoneAlarm; voice chat
requires setting security to medium.
The XP end upgraded to 6.1 yesterday. Sign-in is fine, keyboard chat works,
two-way webcam works, but voice doesn't work between us.
Ideas? Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36908

MSN Messenger and Direcway
I use Direcway to connect to internet. To get a fast
connection I must check the box under LAN settings for "I
use a Proxy server" then set those to 127.0.0.1 port 83.
With IE configured in this way I can not use Messenger or
any other passport services. If I uncheck the box for
Proxy server then messenger connects quite well but my
browsing speed goes to zero. How can I set Messenger up
to use the proxy settings I have? BTW, no firewall. Is
there something I can do under proxy exceptions or any
other suggestions? Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36894
Messenger 6, 6.1 audio problem on XP
I've been experiencing some peculiar problems with the
audio chat in MSN Messenger 6 and 6.1 in Windows XP. I
previously have been able to successfully use the audio
with Windows Messenger, but not MSN Messenger 6. I have
tried disabling QoS and enabling UPnP on my router, and my
colleague has Norton Internet Security completely open for
Messenger and we still cannot get it to work. The only
way the audio connection works with Messenger 6 is if he
initiates the conversation and I accept it with Windows
Messenger. What special settings are needed to get
Messenger 6 working? Please advise. Thanks. Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36893
Broadcast help please!
Hi,
I need to find out how I can programmatically scan for
available SQL Server instances on my network. I am using
C# with Framework 1.1 and assume that it would be through
interop to some COM DLL function call. I basically need
to get a list of visible instances so that I can pass
that from my DAL to the client for selection.
Thanks in advance! Tag: MSN problem Tag: 36891
