    - unable to log into msn or hotmail On one of my laptops with windows 2000 server sp3 I am unable to log into hotmail or msn. It is running IE6 sp1. By going to www.msn.com and clicking on hotmail or going dirrectly to www.hotmmail.com, it dirrectly brings up an error message: "The .NET Passport service is currently unavailable at this Web site for one of these reasons: The site may contain error or be experiencing a problem that affects the .net passport service. The site may not be an official .NET Passport particvipating site. I know that neither one is the case, because I can get to my hotmail account from any other machine on our network. If I try to create a new account on problem laptop, it says that I am already logged in, but does not allow to see my mailbox. It feels as if cookies not being deleted, or corrupt certificate or some other file. I need to be able to access email from this laptop while on the road.     - Internal Messenger using Exchange 2000 We are attempting to setup up MSN internally using our Exchange 2000 email server. It was setup on a separate box for testing then moved to a more permanent home and now it is not working.     - Can't sign in, yet details are correct. Hi folks, Can someone please help with this. I have reported it several times to Hotmail/MSN and have had no response at all. Basically, the problem is all of a sudden (approx 3 weeks ago now) I tried to sign into a .net passport site (or MSN) and even though my username and password are correct, I keep getting returned to the sign-in screen. No error message, just returned to the sign-in screen. If I type a wrong password in, I am alerted to this fact and asked to type it in again. I have tried to reset my password, but when I enter the username and location, I get an error to the effect that I am currently unable to do this and that I should try again later. I have tried logging in on another machine to no avail and I have had other people log in on my machine with no problem.     - 6.1 annoyance - window resizing Just noticed that with 6.1, you can't resize the width of a chat window any narrower than the width of the toolbar. Exception is when you play a game, it allows you to resize freely - although there appears to be a glitch where the window will suddenly "reset" to the minimum width, which makes playing the games a bit tricky.     - Windows 98, MSN Messenger 6.0 , Will not connect Please help someone. I'm running windows 98 and when I connect to the interent messenger will not log on. It will give an error message saying something to the sorts of "Could not connect. Please check your interenet connection." This doesnt make any sense.     - Windows Messenger will not install again Hi, David here and I did few researches and removed my Windows Messenger by entering the following link in the Run dialog box. RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir% \INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove I tried reinstalling Windows Messenger 5.0 from the website but no luck. The set up runs fine. But, when I click on Start --> All Programs --> Windows Messenger nothing comes up. Also Start --> Run --> msmsgs will now work.     - Msn Messenger Add-on's would help if you can ding or buz someone I don't know if any one thinks this would be a great idea as i should would think it would be. Well on yahoo messenger they have a button where you can buzz or ding the person your chattting to.. Many time's when i logon and i see some one and they are not away i want to buzz them.     - Ending Video session After some help from folks on this forum, I have been able to get my Logitech Webcam Messenger working on my XP Home machine through my MN-500 wireless base station. Now for my new problem. When I end a webcam video link with a friend, the program hangs. By that I mean that the video link ends, but I get an hourglass for a cursor in MSN Messenger (6.1) and it will not go away. Perform a "control-alt-delete" and click on video link and/or MSN Messenger and click "end program" will not shut down messenger.     - MSN messenger setup has failed with error '1601' Hi all. I'm trying to upday MSN messanger from 4.7 to MSN 6.1. I have successfully downloaded the setup file but when I run it I get this message: "MSN messenger setup has failed with error '1601'. Please goto the MSN web site and down load the software from there." It says to download from the MSN site... but that is where it was downloaded from. Is the problem because I haven't un-installed MSN 4.7 first? I don't want to get rid of that yet incase I can't get it back. If there is a problem with 6.1... is MSN 6.0 still available?     - cannot see/hear other party Hello, I usually use Windows Messenger and it works very well for me. I also have MSN Messenger 6.0 which I have just started using. I completed the tuning wizard OK. When inviting my friend to a webcam, I could see my vvideo but I could not see theirs, nor hear them. They could not see/hear us either. Is this to do with port opening on the firewall ? Also, I use a digital camcorder. However, I emulate in Video for Windows (VFW) using Trackercam software. So I can't see that as being the problem.     - IM and XP firewall I just realized that after setting the XP firewall, IM does not connect anymore. Is that by design? I did not see this problem before but now, whenever I set the firewall, I get an error when signing in WM & MSNM. I have MSN8 and I have no problem signing in totheir service. Is there a workaround?     - webcam and MSN IM I am a newbie to webcams so please bear with me. I am running MSN Messenger 6.1 on a Windows XP Home machine on a home network using a Microsoft MN-500 wireless base station. The computer in qestion is hard wired to the base station. Instant messenegr works fine, but I recently bought a Logitech Webcam Messenger camera. When I attempt to add webcam to an IM session, I can see the other person's picture, but both see and I only see a blank screen for me. My camera does work as I have successfully created and sent video via email using this camers.     - Best Sound Card for Audio Conversations? Hello -- Like so many others here, I have had nothing but trouble in getting audio to work on MSN Messenger. I tried upgrading to 6.1 -- Didn't work. I tried installing the archiac version of RTCDLL.DLL -- Didn't work. I tried fiddling with my sound device settings -- Didn't work. What's really odd about my problem (at least I haven't heard anyone else describe this), is that I can hear them loud and clear, but they cannot hear anything *intelligible* from me. "Intelligible" is the operative work here, because they report that they *can* hear me typing on the keyboard or making some other non-verbal sound, and they *can* hear my voice, but it sounds to them like a "bear's growl", which I interpret to mean that my voice is coming through veeeeeery slooooooweeeed dooooown. But why would this happen?! Could it possibly be a sluggish sound system? My sound is integrated into the motherboard, while most people I have tried unsuccessfully to communicate with have a PCI card (e.g. SoundBlaster). Do those of you who have had success with audio have full-fledged sound cards, and if so, what type? I'd really like to find out if it would be worth my while to purchase a new, better card for my system just to see if it makes a difference. Please let me know. Thanks...     - MSN 6.1 Audio Issues A Friend and I both downloaded MSN 6.1 (to make sure we are running the same app) We can cannect to each other (We get connection established) He can hear me and I cannot hear him. He is running Windows 2000 Pro, and his sound meters bar IS moving. (He also passed the audio test) Neither of us are running QoS, we are both running Linksys routers with uPnP enabled. My "advanced connection information" says "You are connected to the Internet through a UPnP IP restricted NAT (Administrator)" (which is weird cause I am not logged in a admin...) His advanced connection info say "You are directly connected to the internet (No firewall)" Yet he is using the same nat I am! He is using Wireless, but I don't think that should matter.     - Video Conversations I have a desktop and a laptop that are both operating on home network. They both have Windows XP professional and they are both installed with MSN Messenger 6.1. I am attempting to set up a video conversation between the 2 computers and for some reason the desktop is not transmitting any video or audio. The laptop is working fine. Both firewalls are disabled. I know that both cameras work fine because I have swapped them between the two computers and the problem stays with the desktop.     - Font Problems I am using MSN Messenger 6.1.0202 and i am having a few problems with the fonts, for example where my nickname should be (just above contact list) my nick appears as a series of boxes, same thing with just below the contact list where it should say "more options" or somethingn ( above the "Add a contact" "Send an instand message" "Send file of photo" etc) What font would i need to install to get these to appear properly?     - RTCDLL Error with Audio Tuning Wizard Just upgraded MSN ver. 5.0 to 6.0 and also tried 6.1. All was working 100% with 5.0 including Netmeeting. Now have no audio and when audio tuning wizard starts, getting "error in rtldll.dll" and MSN shuts down. Same thing happens when trying to use Netmeeting.
