Is there a way to send/get messages to/from pals that are
offline at the moment?

ICQ yahoo and the others allow this...
if not - why?

please reply to my mail so i will surely get this.

Greetings Joe,

Since Messenger uses e-mail addresses (on the public network), it's always been Messenger's
design to simply use e-mail instead of implementing an offline messages feature (and
currently doesn't have one).

its really a pity, because as it says somewhere in the
microsoft help, emails and instant messages are not the
same - people who reset their pc go offline for a minute.
when they return they might not check their mail. and
continue to chat. i dont think mixing two means of
comunication: email and IM is a good idea. if i chat with
someone on the msn messenger - i might not feel so close
to him as to email him...
maybe MS will change that in the future.

Hi Joe,

It's possible that it may change, but I think it's very low on the priority list.

Hopefully it will happen, cause apart from that (quite
big) problem - msn messenger is the absolut best!

Hi Robert,

Uh oh -- looks like it's gone [hopefully temporary]. There's always http://www.mister-i.com
(trial, not free)

and other web clients that allow you to connect to the .NET Messenger network as well as
others (for free):
http://messenger.lycos.co.uk/messenger/
and
Odigo Express -- http://www.odigo.org/download/index.html
