email msn supoprt here:

tell them exactly what u said here. also tell them ur operating system

In the mean time u cud try this:

Do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus
added a new
"instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Messenger and
cause this
behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton
Antivirus icon in the
System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton
Antivirus'), click Options,
then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

still not working:

1) If you're using a third-party firewall (Sygate, ZoneAlarm, Norton, etc.)
set Messenger to "Permit All" or "Allow" type options in the firewall
configuration.
2) If you're using a router, make sure you have the latest firmware from
your router manufacturer. As well, you might try setting your computers
local IP into
the routers DMZ setting (see documentation on how to do this).

still not working:

WINDOWS 98,ME

1) Click Start > Run
2) Type: %windir% and press enter.
3) Open Application Data and then the Microsoft folder.
4) Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and delete it.

WINDOWS 2000, XP

1) Click Start > Run
2) Type: %appdata%\Microsoft and press enter.
3) Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and delete it.

I tried uninstalling it and installing again twice, one of themw ith a
different version adn the problem is still there. It maybe intersting
that I can perfectly use some other clients like Trillian and stuff,
it is MSN Messenger the one which wont work
