HELP!!! Sign In Error 81000301
Hi Everybody!
I am desperate! I use to have the Messenger 6.2, since I=20
had problems with this version and the windows messenger=20
together I deinstalled it. Later I decided to install it=20
again, because the windows messenger shows the camera so=20
very little. I did .... quiet a few times, but I can=B4t=20
sign it ... it always shows the Error 81000301!
I also installed the Beta Version, which worked well, I=20
deinstalled it again because I=B4ve been told it=B4s unsecure=20
and since I had something unknown on my computer I rather=20
deinstalled it. Still I can=B4t sign in in the 6.2 version,=20
which I downloaded again! :((
Well, also my Outlook Express is not downloading all my=20
emails, I don=B4t know if this has to do anything with the=20
messenger!!?!!
I hope somebody can help me,
thanks a lot,

MSN Messenger Sign in Problem - SOLVED!
Hello
This is my first time in this newsgroup so apologies if I am raising a
subject that has been dealt with before.
I have a business computer running Windows 2000 Professional, Service
Pack 4 with all updates installed plus anti-virus, malware programs
running. All running nicely and kept up-to-date.
This computer has just had MSN Messenger (Version 6.2) installed on it
but the main user cannot log in. The error message is the "popular"
0x81000370 sign in error. I have tried many solutions posted on the
internet without success.
Messenger has been re-downloaded & reinstalled many times.
It is only the 2000 computer with the problem and no users can log into
MSN Messenger on
that computer. No problem logging in on the two other computers (they
use XP Pro) in this small network.
The 2000 computer is the server and has the router/firewall attached to
it. It is connected to the internet using a broadband cable connection.
I know this is a pretty vague question but I am wondering if anyone has
solved this login problem and what they used to do so. There seems to be
hundreds of possible solutions out there but I am interested to hear
from anyone who has actually fixed this pain in the neck problem that I
have spent hours on.
Any help appreciated.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
I am happy to say that the problem is fixed! :) The simple answer for
me was to do the following:-
click start, then on run. Type: regsvr32 softpub.dll and press enter.
Many thanks to the following for their help. The original post is set
out at the end of this posting - with thanks to Jud in
"alt.os.windows2000" who reminded me to post the problem to
"microsoft.public.msn.messenger" as well as to the person who posted the
message below and to Jonathan Kay who apparently originally supplied the
solutions. Much appreciated.

First, try the following: click start, then on run. Type:
regsvr32 softpub.dll and press enter.
If MSN Messenger does not work yet after this, you can try
closing Messenger then go to www.passport.net with Internet
Explorer (also if you normally use another webbrowser)
then click on the sign in button, you may get a
certificate dialog.
Accept the certificate, now if you start MSN Messenger it
should work.
If you did not get the certificate dialog and MSN
Messenger still does not work,
open the advanced settings dialog in Internet Explorer by
clicking on the Tools - Internet options menu and
then go to the advanced tab. Go down to the security
section and make sure use SSL 2.0 and use SSL 3.0 are both
checked.

MSN Messenger Woes
MSN Messenger needs to support Microsoft Outlook for its premium users. I
use Hotmail through Outlook but MSN Messenger still directs me towards the
web site instead of my client.
MSN Messenger also needs to allow a scroll bar when the content is too large
for its size.
e.g. I click on the 'Xbox' icon and it displays its information in a size
that is too large for the default application window. That's fine and dandy
except that there is no way to scroll down to display the rest of the page.
You have to manually resize or maximize your window, which can be cumbersome.

mode. What if I am sleeping and set as away and someone messages me? Tag: msn.com Tag: 67278

Jonathan,
I always read you answers here when having troubles with messenger. Often
this makes things clearer to me.
Now, there is a problem in a Dutch messenger newsgroup in which it is said
that the problems with "no audio" with webcams are solved (even behind NAT
and with ALL routers, including non UPnP routers) IF both parties use MSN7.
Is this correct?

Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:

then click OK
(DONT FORGET THE "SPACE" BETWEEN regsvr32 and softpub.dll)
1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly --
double click the
clock verify that the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that
you are typing it
in with the correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password here:
http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf to
something smaller (under 10-12 characters4. If you use a
firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ),
it's possible that Messenger doesn't have the correct
rights to access the Internet,
especially since you upgraded. You may need to re/add
Messenger to the allowed list of programs
in your firewall if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still
may be blocking
Messenger -- try restarting it and see if that helps the
situation. You also might try
uninstalling an installed firewall, to verify that it
isn't causing a problem (even if it is
disabled).
6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet
Explorer, click the
Tools menu, then Internet Options, then click the Delete
Files button, and when that's
complete click the Delete Cookies button.
7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet
Explorer, click the
Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab,
scroll to the Security section, and
verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is
unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL
2.0' and Use SSL 3.0' is checked, then click OK.
8. On the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer,
click "Internet Options" then click on "Connections" then
click on "settings" and make sure all the 3 check boxes
are UNTICKED then click OK.

Good afternoon folks...

Let me say this was NOT at all easy; the program that got rid of it was:

I completely understand the problems of the virus closing any program
opened; so what you need to do is somehow get that package to your desktop,
and run it by either clicking loads to overload your system, or by pressing
return on your system, try get through the menus without closing the
program - ignore 'close this program'? dialogues, it's the virus trying to
close it! Click no then click on another button
ie:
shove the 'close? yes/no' dialogue box over the 'next' box, so when you
press 'no' you can press 'next' in the install program...
or use return again and keep your finger on it.
Once it's installed, ensure you're connected through the net ( i guess you
need broadband ideally...) and it'll update, then run
it'll scan your computer manually (possibly with no windows displayed) and
find the virus and scarily flash on your screen as the virus keeps closing
it. This is because the virus closes most programs, and you'll have to be
quick with your eyesight...take it easy, it'll keep flashing, so read what
you can of them each time it flashes up.
Restart your pc, and it should delete it, then find other parts of the
virus...
Tip: as it kept flashing up initially i managed to tick 'display info box'
which came up with options, i changed the selection from 'always' to 'after
restart', and the below option to 'delete virus' as opposed to
close/clean/quarantine.
It worked, and now i'm running without the serflog.c virus
I do warn you, this is hard, but no other solution has worked successfully.
I will be using this virus scanner from now on too!
If you've any questions, please post here.
To the 'regulars' if you could please put this in better words then maybe
that would help people better. Unfortunately it's all about timing and
overloading your CPU to install the program, but i can reassure you it does
work!
Until symantec produces a removal tool (if at all) this is the onl y method
i have found that works.
