I have a quick question... my messenger isn't working and
the help button that takes me to the status page says
that .NET is experiencing difficulities... is anyone else
having this problem?

I have read some of the other questions and some of them
are like mine! Has anyone had any luck making it work
yet? I would appreciate anyone's help! Thank you very
much!

Greetings Laura,

There are some minor difficulties with the Messenger service currently that will be
preventing a small minority of users from signing in.

If you are part of this minority, you may find it more handy to use a web-based Messenger
client for the time being:
http://www.wbmsn.net
http://www.e-messenger.net
http://www.msn2go.com
http://www.msn2web.com

Also, a number of software firewalls and proxies may be forcing you to connect using the
method that is currently not functioning. If this is the case, make sure that your software
firewall has given Messenger full access to the Internet connection and if you've forced
Messenger to use a proxy, try turning it off (this will only work of course, if you can
connect without a proxy). To turn off the proxy setting, open up the main Messenger window,
click the Tools menu, then Options, then Connection tab, uncheck "I use a proxy server" and
then click OK.

Also, here are some suggestions (assuming you're not in this minority of users):
1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password @ http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf to
something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you
upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall
if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).
6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button.
7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
8. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK

Thanks Jonathan for getting back to me.

I have tried all of the suggestions... does this mean
that I just more or less have to sit and wait for MSN
messenger to be working again?

Please could you give me an idea of when this will be! I
use this service for many different reasons... one very
important one is conversing with other students about a
class that we are taking. It's not been a very fun time
not being able to communicate!

I really would appreciate any insight you may have!
Thanks again!

have one other quick question... it makes me a bit
nervous when I'm suppose to try to type something in
the "start and run" menu. I connect to the internet via
DSL.... I haven't done this yet... but what exactly does
this mean:

regsvr32 softpub.dll when you say to type it in there.
I wasn't having trouble with messenger 3 or 4 days ago,
so this is very frustrating for me!

Thanks for your time and help!
