Hi all.

I'm trying to upday MSN messanger from 4.7 to MSN 6.1. I
have successfully downloaded the setup file but when I
run it I get this message:

"MSN messenger setup has failed with error '1601'. Please
goto the MSN web site and down load the software from
there."

It says to download from the MSN site... but that is
where it was downloaded from. Is the problem because I
haven't un-installed MSN 4.7 first? I don't want to get
rid of that yet incase I can't get it back. If there is a
problem with 6.1... is MSN 6.0 still available?

FYI.... this is on my new laptop running Windows XP Home
Edition.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Greetings Daniel,

This usually happens if your Windows Installer is not working properly.

To correct, do the following -- click Start, then Run, and type the following:
%systemroot%\system32\dllcache\msiexec.exe /regserver
then click OK.

After this, run the install again.
