For those who have been experiencing voice problem with MSN Messenger, try this: - If you are using Windows XP and you have an Intel network card, you may experience problems using the MSN Messenger audio/video feature. Some Intel network cards enable 802.1p wireless connection support by default, but don't provide a way to disable that support. Turning off the QoS Packet Scheduler may fix this problem. To do this: 1. In Windows, click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Click Network and Internet Connection, and then click Network Connections. 3. Right-click the network or Internet connection that is currently enabled, and then click Properties. 4. Clear the QoS Packet Scheduler check box. 5. Restart your computer. 6. Sign in to MSN Messenger and try using the audio/video feature again. - If your audio/video device is plugged into a USB hub, try removing the hub and plugging the device directly into the computer. If you are not using a USB hub, try unplugging some of the other devices using USB ports. - If you are using a third-party firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security, Sygate, etc.), make sure that Messenger is to "Permit All", "Allow All", or in the case of ZoneAlarm, the "Medium" setting. Restart your computer afterwards to effect these changes. - If you are using a router, make sure that you have installed the latest firmware for your hardware. Most of the routers are uPnP enabled but need a firmware update. If you are not sure, check your hardware manufacturer for this. - Currently, certain extended features of MSN Messenger, such as camera, voice conversations and file transfer, might not work behind Internet Connection Sharing applications and hardware (often called NATs). Basic functionality such as signing in, instant messaging, and checking e-mail should not be affected at all. File transfer and audio or video conversations will fail if you or the person you are communicating with are on computers that have Windows XP ICS NATs. MSN Messenger fails to detect this type of NAT as a Universal Plug-n-Play (UPnP) NAT. On the XP ICS machine connected directly to the Internet please do the following: 1.  - Firewall I have MSN Messenger V9b, and Norton IS Firewall 2003 If I use audio, the remote listener cannot hear me unless I disable Norton Firewll; but I can hear him. Does anyone know which protocol i need to unblock so that audio will work with the firewall enabled. eg ICMP etc?  - Windows Messenger 5.0and 4.7 together ? Hi, I have windows messenger 4.7.2009 on my XP PC. I have seen on the microsoft website that windows messenger 5.0 is available. If I download and install it, will I be able to have it coexist with Win Messenger 4.7 ? I am asking because I have read some threads about removing 4.7 but I am too much of a novice to deal with this. BTW, I also have MSN messenger 6.0. Is this goingto be OK ?  - pop up box that won't go away Recently a popup box came up and ask if I wanted the newer version of MSN messenger, I told it yes and did as it told me to do and turned my computer off. Ever since I did that the first time that same box keeps popping up asking me if I want a newer version of msn messenger and I keep telling it no, but it keeps popping back up. Is there anybody out there that can tell me how to get rid of this annoying little popup box? Any help would be greatly appreciated!  - Getting verified & signed in Frustration rules! I installed XP Home and when Messenger started up I was told to input details from an email that would be sent by MS. This never arrived and I have been unable to get any help via email from them. Now I can't sign in but I DO have a valid Passport as I tried to create a new one and was told it existed!  - Voice communication problem Hi, I am using Windows 98 in my system and i was able to voice chat very comfortably when i was using MSN messenger 4.5 but whenever i tried to upgrade it, it stops but as now it has become compulsory to upgrade , i upgraded MSn to 6.0 and i am not able to voice chatting now.  - MSN Messenger and DV Cameras I have a DV Camera and also a Logitech 4000 Web cam. The Webcam works fine with MSN Messenger but not the DV Cam. Messenger cant even recognize the DV Cam. I am able to see the DV cam using Windows Media Encoder (In fact both cameras show up on WM Encoder) so I know the camera works. Can some one tell me if MSN Messenger only supports Web Cams ??  - MSN Messenger 2.5 for Mac Hello, Perhaps there is a Mac user out there who can help me. I've just downloaded MSN Messenger 2.5 for Mac OS 9.2, and each time I launch the program, it wants to access my Keychain for the password. I've never created a Keychain to store my password for Messenger, yet it asks me this every time I want to use the program. MSN Messenger 2.1 for Mac was nice, because I could just enter my user ID and password and Messenger would remember it, and I never dealt with this Keychain business. I've switched off Keychain access in my control panel, yet Messenger still asks for Keychain access. How do I get around this? Thanks for your help.  - MSN Messenger 6.0 I can install the messenger, and it signs me in, but after about 10 seconds it just shuts down, there is no error message, the window just disappear and the icon is gone from the task tray. I have spent the past month trying to get people at MSN to help, but nothing has worked. I have also tried what has already been suggested here, in fact I just went through the last 30 pages of this message board and tried several things, to no avail. I've tried shutting off all the programs, but it still does it. And I have enough memory, so I don't think that's the problem. I'm running windows xp. Messenger 4.7 works fine.  - Cannot change Display Name I'm running MSN Messenger 6 on Windows 98SE. I'm trying to change some options - like My Display Name, but it won't let me save the changes. As soon as I click OK, I get the message "The number in the minutes box must be 1 or greater. To turn off the activity detector, please clear the check box." When I run send and recieve in outlook express it says i have messages waiting but has an error "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.  - Online/offline integration w Outlook Express not working after upgrade to MSN 6 In older versions of Messenger I could see who was online in Outlook Express, I had my adress book in the left hand bottom corner and there it would show the blue and red contacts.  - Email address change Because of 150 emails sent through messenger to me with=20 viruses, i decided to change my email address in=20 messenger. Having gone through the process i have come=20 accrossed a problem, i am unable to verify my email=20 address. At first I thought I had been hacked and someone had logged in my MSN account from another location. So I quickly changed my password and Secret question.  - WebCam - cannot see myself anymore Hi, I have a Logtech Pro 3000 which worked fine with MSN 6 when intially downloaded it about 2-3 months ago. Only since yesterday, I found it bizarre during a video conference session where the receiver could see me, but I could no longer see myself as my screen was blank. About every minute or so, there would be a quick flash of my image which last for about half a second. My cam still works fine with Netmeeting and Yahoo. I have not done any major upgrades recently, nor have I installed any new software so I'm not sure what could have caused this problem. I even uninstalled MSN and then reinstalled it, but this did not solve the problem either. "Web-Cam settings" has always shown a blank-grey screen ever since the beginning when I first used MSN 6, but I could still see myself when I was in a video conference, so it didn't bother me. Hi The other day for no reason when i opened messenger, it said that 5 people had added me to their contacts list, and a runtime error popped up saying the runtime had to close or something, in the program c\program files\msn messenger\msnsgr.exe. This kept happening even after a reinstall, so i installed version 5 on my pc, and it works ok. However if i go to options->security and look at my block list, those 5 people that tried to add me i cannot delete from the list!  - Cannot sign in Ever since MSN Messenger 6.0 has come out, I have used it with no problem at all. And earyler today I signed out to do something else, then I went back to sign in and I got this message: "We were unable to sign you in to the .NET Messenger Service, possibly because of a problem with your Internet connection. Please try again later" Now my internet is working fine, normal speeds and all. I did not update Messenger to my knowledge, and for sure not my firewall, BUT I did a windows update, something may have been in there. I didnt pay to much attention, I was in a rush. When I tried to talk with my friend, the connection can be established easily, but I can't hear what he is saying, he can hear me. We can use netmeeting to connect with 2-way communication without any problem. So I think there is no problem with my audio card and microphone. Seems to me there is some problems with my router.  - Can't uninstall MSN Messenger 4.7 Hi, I have Windows XP Pro. I have been attempting to install MSN Messenger 6.0, but when I do, 4.7 remains installed and continues to run even while 6.0 does. I tried uninstalling 4.7 from the Add/Remove Programs applet (it's the version that comes with XP), but it remains on the computer and continues to run anyway. When I try to use Messenger, it displays an error message and says that I have already signed in at another location. When I try to shut 4.7 down from the system bar icon, it refused and displays a message that some other program is using it. I have also tried to shut it down from the windows task manager. It seems to shut down, but when I try to connect using 6.0, it continues to to say that I am already signed in at another location. Any ideas what I can do to solve this delemma? MSN messenger 6 msi can be extracted from the source file.
Manual installation of this msi file works fine but if the same is installed
from Group policy, it fails with the error :fatal error during the
installation".

What could be the reason ? I have tested XP version.
