Can new Video Messenger work only 1 way?
We are in the tech support business, and would like for
our clients to be able to see us remotely... and, for now,
NONE of them are going to have webcams, etc... If WE have
a webcam, could they see US using MSN Messenger? Is

Unable to Connect to MSN Messenger using Zonealarm Pro
Hi,
I am unable to connect to MSN messenger. Whenever I try and connect it
tries to connect for a second then says "Click below to sign in" Thus never
connected in the first place. I have given MSN Messenger Full "Access,
Server, Send Mail, Application Interaction, and This program may use other
programs to access the Internet" Rights with Zonealarm.
I am using MSN Messenger 7.0.0777 and Zonealarm Pro 5.5.062.011. I am

SECURITY PROBLEM IN MSN MESSENGER AND PASSPORT!
I am a Microsoft MSDN subscriber and work in a small company with another
developer. The other developer (who I have worked with for 12 years and
trust completely) needed to download a software tool from the MSDN site
while I was otherwise occupied. Since my Passport Login is the only one
allowed to be used for MSDN downloads (for our company), I explicitly gave
him permission to use it for a download because the project had to be done
immediately.
A few days later, I logged into MSN Messenger (v6.2) automatically (it uses
the same Passport ID/PWD) and to my surprise the display name shown was that
of my co-worker!!!! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?
Is MSN Messenger pulling private information from the computer a person logs
in on? No matter HOW it happened the incident is extremely disconcerting. I
bet that nefarious individuals could have a field day with this type of
thing. Something fishy is going on. I definitely don't trust Passport or MSN
Messenger anymore.

Can't send .jpg - Can receive
Installed 7 last evening and a friend in Arizona did also.
I am on XP SP2 he is STILL on 98.
He can successfully transfer a .jpg file to me but I can
not transfer to him.
We are both running the final release .0777 build.

Just hoping that you can keep all of us up to date on the signing in
(81000306) and freezing up prob. It is now evident that it's not a run of
the mill problem and yet we seem to be kept in the dark. Please feel free to
let us in on anything that is being done to rectify this or even anything you

MSN messenger 7.0 error
After I close the program, there is an error that states tt
it's a virtual C++ error. It is R6025 - pure virtual
function call error. and it states that it is a runtime

Window Frame
Okay, so I'm using the final build of MSN 7 (That's MSN
7.0.0777), and the little button in the top corner of the
messenger windows has disappeared, the one that gets rid
of the window frame. I've tried everything I know of to
get it back, like removing messenger and clearing out the
registry of everything to do with it and then

[MSN7 RTM] file transferin
okay - getting a bit pissed that Microsoft starts acting like my mother.
Howcome is it that exe-files and Mp3-files is labled as 'unsecure files' and
therefor cannot be transferd...
It really pisses me off - I have worked with Windows since Win95, I use it
daily - I work with servers and do alot of programming and i am not a jerk
who dont know about secure and unsecure files and such - for Christ sake -
where can I disable this mother-function that prevents me from sending files
through MSN Messenger... if not, a patch would be lovely or should I really
downgrade to an older version to get back this feature?

64 bits compatibility
The MSN website say MSN Messenger is designed for Windows 2000 , Windows
98/SE or Windows XP
Why MSN site say nothing about compatibility with Windows XP 64 bits for x64
(RTM since last week) ?

Can't Delete people from allow/block list
Hi,
I came to a problem. I noticed that under Options -->
Privacy I have more people in my allow/block list than I
have on my msn list. I tried to delete some people from
my allow/block list who aren't on my msn list anymore but
I can't. Could anyone please help me with deleting people
from the allow/block list? Some people I could delete but
some not.

Irregular email notifications...and hotmail page doesnt load...
For a couple weeks now I have not been getting regular email notifications on
messenger 7.0. Sometimes it will notify me a few minutes after I have signed
on that I have emails. Usually it doesnt tell me though, if I receive mail
after allready being logged on. I tried uninstalling and going to 6.2...no
luck. I removed windows messenger, because I used to get double notifications
(using 7.0). I read in some old posts that this problem was due to server
switching. But this has been going on for several weeks now.
Also, as of a couple days ago, the hotmail pages (inbox, send message...) do
not load. They will load with the blue background and maybe the top add and
some buttons, but the rest of the screen won't load. SOmetimes it does, but
is incredibly slow. This has been happening on any computer I use, in
internet explorer and firefox.
Somebody please help! Messenger has been my chat client for years, but this
is annoying enough to drop MSN MEssenger and Hotmail!

Error R6025 when closing Msn Messenger 7.0.0777
When I close Msn Messenger 7.0.0777 , It crahes with the error:

I have installed Messenger Plus 3.50 and when it is activated, I do
not have the error anymore. But if if uninstall Msn Messenger Plus (or
even shutdown msgplus.exe process), then Msn Msessenger crash again on

getting royally pissed w/ MSN messenger 7
I have been running MSN messenger BETA 7.0 for a few
weeks, and never had any problem. Tonight, as it started
up, I was informed a new version was ready. I downloaded
and installed it. After reebooting, which was required,
as the new and (supposedly) "improved" 7.0 (which I think
is the final release) tried to open, I got an error
message telling me it couldnt connect, and that either
the server was down (which I know it wasnt as a friend
could connect), or my internet connection wasnt there
(which I know it WAS as I was connected to the internet
through other programs, including internet explorer).
The "troubleshooter" started, only to lock up and cause
both the troubleshooter AND messenger 7.0 to stop
responding. I had to force (via CTRL-ALT-DEL) them to
shut down. When I tried to run 7.0 again, it refused to
even try to open. I had to reboot My system, which is
another problem. With the BETA version, My system would
still shut down in about 30 seconds. Now that the
(supposed) "full" version is installed, it now takes my
system a good 10 minutes to fully shut down. What in the
hell is wrong with this picture? I DID uncheck the box in
Norton Anti-Virus for MSN messenger, as the help section
said to do...still no help. Now, after unchecking the
anti-virus box, and after rebooting, now, when I click
the MSN messenger icon, it doesnt even try to open. As
far as I am concerned, I want MSN messenger 6.x
back...unfortunately, I dont think thats possible
anymore. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if anyone at Microsoft
can figure out how to solve this one, please let me know

chat connection problem with MSN 7.0
I kept getting this error message pretty frequently:

Funny how I was only chatting with ONE PERSON and I STILL
got that stupid message.
I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with my
connection because MSN 6.2 worked perfectly fine. I've
done all the anti-spyware check with Ad-Aware and SpyBot,
checked for viruses, and even tested my bandwidth and
connection on dslreports.com . Honestly, I think AIM does
a BETTER job at relaying messages because I've NEVER had a
problem with AIM telling me that my message wasn't received.
Seriously folks, if you're going to fiddle around with all
these new toys on MSN 7.0, you should've made sure that the
CHAT CLIENT connects with the server. I am so disgusted
with 7.0 that I have uninstalled it in favor of 6.2.
GOOD RIDDANCE.

Can't Log in to WinXP After 7.0 Install
I just installed Msgr 7.0 on my desktop running WinXP
Home. NO PROBLEM. And didn't require a reboot. Once it
finished it restarted Msgr and I logged in again, all was
fine.
Then I installed it on my laptop, also running WinXP
Home. When it finished it required a reboot; I shut down
all my apps and restarted. When it came back up to log in
to WINDOWS it no longer accepted my password. It just
came back with the "The system cannot log you on..."
error.
This has never happened before.

MSN Messenger 7.0 - Too much wasted space
I recently installed MSN Messenger 7.0, and there is one thing about it that
I really don't like. I noticed that there is a lot less vertical space due
to the extra area used at the top and bottom. Although these areas existed
in the previous version, they did not use as much space. This makes it hard
to show much in the content area, which is very frustrating. This is
probably less of a problem on higher resolution monitors, but since not
everyone has top-resolution monitors, I think we should have the option of
hiding the area at the top (I understand that the ads must be shown, even
though I don't always like them). I also think the contacts icons are lower
quality than they used to be (although I could be wrong about this, they
just look lower quality to me). What does everyone else think?

Freezing
I've been using the beta for some time without problem.
Several of my friends have run the upgrade and it is
working for them, but mine freezes about five seconds
after launch. I have to use Windows to force it to end.

Hi,
I've had the problem where I cannot start conversations
with anybody on my computer.
I also cannot see any display names for the people on my
list (instead I see a tiny box where there name is, and
if I let my mouse hover over it, I see their
name/email))...

Can't connect with messenger 7.0
It seems that a lot of people are having problem with messenger 7.0
The program works fine at home, where there is no firewall or anything.
At work, messenger 6.2 used to work fine. With 7.0, I can't connect. It

BIG TROUBLE After Installing MSN Messenger 7.0
I made the mistake of manually downloading and installing MSN Messenger 7.0
this evening, rather than waiting for MSN Messenger 6.2 to inform me that an
update is available, and letting it download and install that way.

Somehow, the installation of 7.0 lost my entire Contact List and lost track
of the automatic sign-in I had established for 6.2. As of now, I have no
idea how to recover my lost contacts list. So, I'd very much appreciate
your help to determine how I might recover that list and integrate it into
7.0, instead of having to go through the tedium of re-entering all of them
and bothering my contacts with the need to respond to my request to, again,
accept my invitation.

crashing every (MSN) messenger on XP SP2 and video capture card
Well, just installed release version MSN Messenger 7.0.0777 and went to the
audio/video tuning wizard immediately.
WinXP SP2 still crashes in trying to connect to the Hercules Video Action!
video capture card :-(
Prob is persistent with MSN Messenger 6.2 , 7.0.0429 beta
and now 7.0.0777.
Also tried the Messenger 4.7 version coming with XP, AND even the
update 5.1.0639
Same prob exists, XP reboots when trying to capture video.
MSN Messenger 4.7 / 6.2 ran fine on W2k SP4, and no hardware
changes whatsoever were done when (clean) installing XP.
Also the Hercules frame grabber card works fine in *any* other app
accessing it, it's *ONLY* (MSN) Messenger crashing into bluescreen
when trying to use it, so I wonder what causes the prob.
Even tried the solution of deleting the %appdata%\microsoft\MSN Messenger
folder too (hey, whatever does the trick is ok with me...), but to no avail
:-(
System is a mobo VIA Tornado Pro 233 (MS7177) with Intel PIII/1000 and AGP
NVidia TNT2 64 and network card Realtek 8139.
(and the Hercules Video Action frame grabber card of course)
Looks like some software fault in MSN Messenger to me since *all* apps
accessing the frame grabber card work fine and *only* (MSN) messenger
crashes XP completely.
Several error reports were sent after the rebooting of XP, the "standard
solution" coming back is a "device driver error".
(err reports 15106750, 15125039, 15141274, 15142076)
If so I wonder why *all* other apps can acces the frame grabber without
*any* prob whatsoever, why it's *only* (MSN) Messenger crashing.....
Anyone a solution or explanation for this ?

Freezes behind firewall...
At work behind my corporate firewall messenger logs in and
freezes almost immediately, I must kill task to close. I
move my laptop outside the firewall it works fine. I take
the same laptop home and run it behind my home firewall
and it works fine as well.
What makes it really bizarre is that I've been using the
7.0 beta for several weeks without a single problem. But
installing the release version today and it won't work
right.
Though I assumed it wouldn't work I tried deleting the app
directory indicated in other posts. As expected messenger
continues to freeze when I'm behind the corporate
firewall...

Not all my contacts appeared in their right group.
I'm using groups and sort them based on groups with

Blue Question Mark Tabs
Just curious, do others see Blue Question Mark tabs on some of the tabs with

Send files to contacts via Send To context menu
Has anyone created a plug-inthat would allow you to send files to a MSN
Messenger contact by right clicking the file and using the Send To context
menu to select a Contact to send the file to? I think this would be a great
feature and I'm not sure why it's never been added.

Major layout problems in MSN messenger 7
I installed MSN messenger 7. I now have an ad at the
bottom of the messenger window, which i can't hide or get
rid of, indicating i should try MSN messenger 7. This is
just silly
I also can't get rid of the search bar. I dont want to
search from messenger. I dont like having the bar there. I
like the light, simple layout of older messaging clients,
where i could disable functionality i dont want.
Here's another one. To get rid of the tabs, which i dont
want, i had to go into the security settings.
Here's another. Even if i dont use an icon, the space for
the icon is still used at the top of the messenger window.
Same with personalized text. Same with My Spaces. Same
with MSN Today. I understand you think these features are
valuable. I really have no intent of trying them out, and
would like to have the option to make them disappear.
Here's a bug: if you have the window frame up, then when
you resize the window to be more narrow than the top menu
bar, the inner messenger pane gets short (since 'Help'
wraps to a second line). However, if you have the window
frame hidden, the entire messenger pane (now the only
visible window) still resizes when the now invisible menu
bar wraps. Since the menu bar and outer frame are hidden
the user sees the window get shorter inexplicably. Poor
user experience.
I can't click in the contact area and pick how i want to
sort contacts. I have to unhide the frame, go to contacts,
then pick the option i want.
The default layout for chat windows is too busy. Even
after disabling stuff that has no use for basic
conversations, i still have -
* Text indicating i shouldn't give out my password or
credit card number in an instance message conversation.
Nevermind the fact that i and almost all my friends have
been using the internet since 1993, and all have 6 digit
icq numbers, etc. Can you please expose an option to
disable this text? I dont care if it's buried. I know
better.
* Text telling me that some new feature lets me see and
hear my contacts instead of typing. Some of my friends i'd
rather not see or hear you know. It's cool that you have
this new feature. I dont mind if i have to look at it once
to see what it is. I'd rather not see if every time i try
and talk to someone.
* A search button in the chat window. That's nice that you
want to promote MSN search. No, i dont think that is a
reasonable way to do it. Let's think about user
experience - i'm chatting with someone, they know i'm
typing because you guys made this neato feature that lets
them see that, and now mid conversation i'm going to
decide to search for something? And somehow i'll lack the
energy to mouse over to the NEVER DISAPPEARING search text
box in the messenger window?

Is it possible to get rid of those annoying ads on MSN Messenger 7 ? (I
mean in an official way, for instance by taking a subscription to Hotmail
plus/premium/whatever)

The New Messenger
Do you have to uninstall the older version before
downloading the newer version. I tried to download but it
didn't seem to download. With DSL, it said 5 minutes, but
