my husband is having a problem with his computer at work.
He clicks on the messanger icon and it automatically signs
him onto messanger. They are running XP there and we are
not sure if that could be the problem. If there is any
answers it would be greatly appreciated as it is a shared
computer and it is disturbing to sign on and see him
online when he is not there and I know for a fact he is
not there cause he is here LOL.

thanks magie

its a common problem for windows xp users. heres how to
fix it:

This script works in XP Pro or Home

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_messenger_autorun.vbs

Download xp_messenger_autorun.vbs and save this file to
your hard drive.

(disable windows messenger)
Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file.
A confirmation dialog will appear and remind you to log
off/back on or restart your computer.

U CAN STILL USE WINDOWS MESSENGER IF U WANT BUT U'LL JUST
HAVE TO LOAD IN MANUALLY.

this will fix ur problem of having windows messenger
AUTOMATICALLY signing in

Hi Magie,

Just for future reference, reposting of your enquiry isn't necessary to get a response.

Actually I deal with this several times a day, and you'll need to re-read my instructions.
All currently logged in Windows XP accounts are listed in the Users Control Panel, we're
talking about the account that's logged into the computer *not* Passport (thats in the second
part).

If you still can't figure it out, assuming he has administrator access to the machine, he can
download and run the following .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/disablenetcreds.reg
The computer will need to be rebooted to see the change.
