    - Audio for Jonathan Jonathan, I tried removing MSN 6.2 and installing MSN 6.1 as you mentioned, but the same problem appears. "Connecting to####", but it never connects and then it is broken. Is there anything that could be in the Administrative Tools that could cause us not to get the audio working. I have been following all the posts since middle of May and made all the changes suggested, both by you and others, but this does not allow the connection.     - File Transfer/ Routers Hi, Jonathon has suggested that it may actually be my d-link di-614+ router causing all of my headaches trying to transfer a file from msn messenger, either 6.1 or 6.2, to anybody using windows messenger. This is the story. Using windows messenger 5 I can transfer files all day to anybody. However, using msn messenger 6.1 or 6.2 I can only transfer a file to another msn messenger user. I cannot transfer a file to a windows messenger user. Oddly enough, is I disable UPNP in the router I can then transfer the file using msn messenger. The problem that creates is that with UPNP disabled I cannot use the voice function of msn messenger. I would appreciate knowing if anybody is using a d-link router, any model, with either msn messenger 6.1 or 6.2 and can successfully transfer a file to a windows messenger user. Additionally, I would appreciate knowing the model of router being used. Also, if anybody can do the file transfer from msn messenger 6X to windows messenger and are using a different router I would appreciate knowing the router make and model, and firmware version if possible.     - still getting "Your program is making an invalid dynamic link call to a .DLL file." I'm still not having any luck on this issue. (previous post dated 5/9) When I try to log in with my correct username and password Messenger 6.2 errors out with "Your program is making an invalid dynamic link call to a .DLL file." and gets shutdown. If I use the wrong password I get told my password is incorrect, but at least Messenger stays up. Is there a way to see which .DLL is being called? Maybe it's corrupt? Does anybody have any suggestions? If there is no fix for this, is there a way to revert back to the previous version of Messenger. At least that worked for me. OS is WinME.     - Games not working - Solution that worked for me ------------ PROBLEM ------------ I had problems with running games within MSN Messenger for more than 5 weeks and the suggestions on this forum did not help me at all. My problem was that the "Launch Site" or "Fun & games" menu always showed the message 'Fun & Games is temporarily unavailabe. Please close and try again later.' Checking 'Always ask for my password...' and emtying Internet Explorer's cache simply did not do the trick. A post on this forum from Heric a few days ago got me on the right track however. His solution of changing timezone information for my passport did not solve this although my settings were admittely absurd (country and timezone did not fit together). Neither did the games.mess.be solution work on it's own although I got it to work in conjunction with the solution provided below. Following is a description of what I have found out about this problem and the solution that worked for me. If you have this same problem and don't care about the details then skip this part and go straight to the soulution part below. MSN Messenger has two settings that both contain urls of web services that are used to play the games. The first is AppDirPageURL and is used to identify the source for the menu that is shown when you click on "Launch Site" or "Fun & games" buttons. The second is AppDirSeviceURL which points to the service used when playing games after selecting a game from the menu. Both these settings on my computer pointed to services that simply did not work for me. I don't know the value of my non-working AppDirPageURL setting but a working setting (which can be opened in a web browser) has been posted on this forum by Jonathan Kay as http://appdirectory.messenger.msn.com/AppDirectory/ Directory.aspx?lang=en-us This displayed a menu but did not solve my problem as the AppDirSeviceURL setting was still pointing to a service that did not work for me. The non-working setting my computer was using for AppDirSeviceURL is http://config.messenger.msn.com/Config/MsgrConfig.a smx but a working one is http://appdirectory.messenger.msn.com/AppDirectory/ AppDirectory.asmx I don't know of a way to change edit those settings directly for MSN Messenger and the way I found includes patching the Messenger program which almost certainly violates the MS end-user-licence-agreement for MSN Messenger. So be warned. The patch can be found at http://www.msnfanatic.com/tabserv/ ------------ SOLUTION ------------ 1. Download and run the patch from the following webpage http://www.msnfanatic.com/tabserv/ A direct link to the patch is http://www.msnfanatic.com/tabserv/TabServ%20Patch.exe 2. Type in your passport and click the patch button. Note that you have to completely exit the MSN Messenger program before applying the patch. 3. Go back to the webpage mentioned above (where you downloaded the patch from) and Register using you .net passport. Note that it is not required nor recommended that you use the same password for this registration as with your passport. 4. Set the two settings ('App Directory Page' and 'App Directory Service') to the default values of http://appdirectory.messenger.msn.com/AppDirectory/ Directory.aspx?L=en-US and http://appdirectory.messenger.msn.com/AppDirectory/ AppDirectory.asmx respectively. You can use the 'Default' link to the right of each setting and then you have to submit each of these changes. 5. Restart MSN Messenger and it should work! ------------ NOTE ------------ Hope this also helps others who have had the same problem.     - any truth to this jonathan Yahoooooooooo........... oops.. rather MSNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....... my MSN now works, I found out that when I had installed Tweakmaster, I had enabled DNS accelerator. This stupid function had writen the DNS value for loginnet.passport.com in the windows Hosts file and in the registry. For some unknown reason all other methods of modifying the host file would not work. I then had to manually open my hosts file and delete the entry and now MSN works great. ?????????     - File transfers keep failing Hi, A few weeks back my friend could send me game demos, etc which were about 15-25 megs each. Then he went on Holiday since he has come back the file transfers dont work anymore. They start but time out after about 20 minutes, (they have been recieving data the whole time).     - MSN Messenger I got a new computer a while ago and the internet explorer has a direct link to msn on the task bar.     - Messenger 6.2 UPnP detection I have a Linksys WRT54G router with UPnP enabled. I have "Universal Plug and Play" and "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client" installed. The Plug and Play and SSDP Discovery Services are running. The MSN Messenger 6.2 Advanced Connection Information says "You are connected to the Internet through a non-UPnP port restricted NAT. (Administrator)". I have the latest firmware installed in the router. I have reset the router and restored it to factory settings. I have Norton Internet Security 2004 installed. I have tried disabling Norton. The Windows firewall is off. Windows Messenger says "You are currently connected to .NET Messenger Service using a direct connection (no firewall)." I am able to send and receive files using both MSN and Windows Messenger. I was able to establish an audio chat connection using Windows Messenger but the person on the other end could not here me. (It may be a configuration problem on his end). The fact that I can send and receive files and establish an audio connection leads me to believe UPnP is actually working.     - messenger voice chat I can't get msn (I have the latest version)voice chat to work on my comp (windows messenger voice chat won't work either)..I can hear the other person fine..and I can see green moving for my mic..but the other person can't hear me or see green moving by me.     - Crazy 'Select a Contact' Windows Hi, I really hope you can help.......... A couple of weeks ago I started getting error messages like "Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". I was on an older version of MSN messenger, so decided to upgrade to Messenger 6.2 This removed the above messages, but now as soon as I open MSN Messenger (regardless of whether I sign-on or not) I get every few seconds, a new window entitled "Select a Contact" either empty if I'm off-line or with the names of any buddies online if I'm signed-in. The windows, just keeps coming every few seconds and you have to keep cancelling them to get rid of them. It makes it impossible to use your computer. The only way to get rid of them is to go to the task manager and end the MSN messenger from this window. I have tried everything (with and without Norton Virus) Deleting and re-installing 6.2 (completing removing MSN Messenger beforehand). I have installed all the MS patches I can find, I'm running on XP Home. Please help otherwise I'm never going to be able to use MSN Messenger again!!! Thanks - Simon. ps. Whenver i go there it says this:

HTTP 500 - Internal server error

I'm using Internet explorer 6 SP1 with all updates.

The error's been there for about 3 hours now. I CAN go to
any of my other msn groups with no problem. Can you see if
theres anything wrong with

Well it appears to be working here now, albeit over 12 hours later (sorry, I do sleep
sometimes!). If you're still having problems, you may want to clear out your Internet
Explorer cache and cookies -- to do so, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options and click
the 'Delete Files' and 'Delete Cookies' buttons.
