Greetings Louis,
If you're using an active @hotmail.com or @msn.com Passport to log into Messenger, it will
automatically open Hotmail and sign you in. If you're using any other Passport, it will
automatically open your default mail handler.
You have a few options here, firstly, if you're using a recent Windows/Internet Explorer, you
can open up Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Programs,
choose Hotmail as your E-mail provider and click OK. Secondly, if you're using a recent
Outlook version, you can simply add your Hotmail account into Outlook (see Tools, Accounts in
Outlook).
