Crashing with MSN Messanger 6.2
Hey, I dont know what happened, seems that nothing new has
been added to the system or removed, but for some reason
my Messanger goes not responsive every time it signs in.
On Start up if I dont have my Internet Cable plugged in,
its fine, but as soon as I connect, it goes non
responsive. I have no idea what happened.
I have already uninstalled the program, and reinstalled,
but the new install also crashes. In addition, the
network traffic is sending and receiving packets after the
MSN messanger crashes, as if the program was accessing the
net itself.

Our network only allow HTTP port 80 comms to ourproxy server. MSN does not work.

I can't seem to use the voice in msn 6.2. The wizard tells me the can not
find Dpv Setup.exe. How did I loose it and how do I get it back please.

I have not be able to sign into my hotmail.com account or msn messenger since
changing my password yesterday. I get the error code 0x81000303. I tried
changing my password but it says I have don't answer my secret question
correctly. (that may be true, it's been a long time since I wrote it.) I have
done everything these message boards have suggested regarding this problem,
but nothing works. I have sent messages to both messenger and hotmail
support, but have heard nothing back.I had to get a different account just to
post this message as I could not sign in to net passport. There must be
something that can be done--Is there a phone number for tech support--even if
I have to pay???

Mic dies after a few seconds
I am using the latest MSN - 6.2. I have uninstalled +
reinstalled a couple of times.
I am running XP Pro-SP2.
I have the latest audio drivers for my on board sound.
The audio device is listed as "C-Media AC97 Audio Device."
I am behind a SOHO firewall. I have not opened any ports
on it, as my problem did not exist previously with the
same firewall configuration.
The Problem - I start an audio conversation, and after
about 2 seconds my mic stops working. I can still hear
the person I am connected to when they speak. For the
first 2 seconds I can see that the mic input slider is
responding to my speech into the mic. After two seconds,
the mic slider gets pinned to the top or sometimes to the
bottom and then no longer responds as I speak (and the
person I am connected to doesn't hear me). This has
started happening 100% of the time. When it does happen
Messenger continues to work, but as soon as the person I
am connected to stops the audio conversation Messenger
freezes completely (I can't even kill it in task
manager). I am able to run through the tuning wizzard
fine. I am able to use my mic for any other application -
even right after Messenger freezes.
I have had the mic working perfectly with the same
hardware setup. All of a sudden this started happening. I
guess I have had various software changes (no driver
changes).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

hmm... I just turned on the so called "boss-mode" (hiding
the messanger in the system) and so it disappeared, but
without telling me the keyboard-combination I have to use
to get it back on screen.

Hi,
I have tried everything jonathan kay could come up with
and still i cant log into msn or into hotmail ( using
IE ). I can now finally read my hotmail e-mails because i
downloaded netscape and it works everytime but i still
cannot log into Msn i keep getting " you are not connected
to the internet or your net. passport doesnt exist" but i
know im connected to the net and i know the the password
is correct because i can log into hotmail.

Hello, I'm a univeristy student. I'm thinking to do a
project, and one of part of the project will be able to
get the online list from the MSN messenger (All the login
logoff or send msg will still in MSN messenger. Just want
to get the online list from MSN and also when double tick
the name, it can open msn to send the message)
I have tried to search in the Microsoft and goolge. I
can't find it.
Is there any SDK that about MSN messenger? (Not the
Windows Messenger, as all the computer i can used is
windows messenger removed completely and i don't plan to
install them again.)

Is there any known method to invoke MSN messenger from a browser?
Ideally something published/documented/blessed, but I'm not picky.
For example, YIM has some limited capabilities with ymsgr: URIs and
AIM has quite a rich set with aim:

No audio in Messenger 6.2 - Please Help!
Audio used to work perfectly with MSN Messenger 6.2 in Windows XP. As
soon as I installed SP2, I lost the ability to speak with anyone. If I
invite a contact to have an audio conversation (or vice versa), the
screen shows that the other party has accepted the invite, but after
about 30 seconds, the screen shows that the 'conversation has ended'.
Please, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Video blocked from Dlink DI-614+ router
When I start do video conference, the other side is unabled to see me as
blocked out. As I'm fixing the friend's router as I only know how to operate
it cos I'm only one understanding english, but 1st time to see the Dlink
wireless router, so what are the steps to open the video conference to
internet? As there are 3 PC with webcams on each PC, as the
only communication is video as all family are deaf. Also I see about the
Dlink firmware as cannot upgrade the latest, cos it say the latest version is
for USA only, not European. When doing video, as blacks out, doing few times,

New Feature Request
A new feature that I would LOVE to see would be that
display pictures (your own and others) would stay hidden
when you opened new windows.
Now, if you or the other person had changed a picture
since you last had the window it would open so you could
need a new picture.
And.. if you won't do this... at least add the option to
have your own start out minimized by default... if we set
our own picture we don't really need to see it everytime

Hung up in Beta 7.0 update
Hi!
This may have been asked before but I checked through a
number of pages and could not find it. Anyway here goes.
I downloaded the beta 7.0 version of MSN and was using it
and liking it. However at some point it said "There is an
update and you MUST download it to be able to use MSN" So
I downloaded it.
It turned out to be the 6.2 version so sure enough,
during installation I got the error saying "Oh dearie you
have a newer version of MSN installed on your system I
cannot possibly install this version"
The result being that I am hung up in the updating
process: beta 7.0 will not let me use it without using
the update and the update will not run because it's an
older version.....
I sent this to CS to which I got an automated reply after
a week (instead of the promised 24 hours) with self help
information aimed at solving Windows SP2 related
problems.... at any rate useless to solve my problem.

web cam in messenger
Around two years ago we purchased a CREATIVE VIDEO BLASTER WEBCAM for use on
a windows 98 PC for use on msn netmeeting for links from england to
australia, and except for some trouble connecting, the web cam did send video
piccy's ok.
To attempt to improve the success with trouble free connection, (it is my
mothers machine, she is 73 and uses it mainly to net meet with her daugher
(my sister) in australia) we have purchased a new dell 'puter with windows XP
installed. - my brother in law suggested that the windows 98 and there XP in
australia might not be helping - I'm not sure this would be the case.
We have plugged in the creative web cam and loaded the software and the web
cam works okay and records video's and stills into the album okay - we can
see the web cam image in the video screen that appears on the monitor.
When we run audio/video testing in net meeting the web cam works okay and
any other test the I have run checks out okay and comfirms that every thing
is okay with the web cam
However, when we connected with aus' we could send audio okay and could see
thieir video AND OUR IMAGE ON OUR SCREEN HERE IN ENGLAND but they could not
see our video on their screen in aus'.
Mum's 'puter has Mcafee anti-virus with firewall but has not had SP2
installed as yet

Recommendation for new feature
I would like to suggest that you allow us to change our
status by clicking the status message that is in the
message window (showing you are away, etc. when you go to
send a new message). Make it work like you have done in
Service Pack 2 with the pop up blocker "allow this site;
temporarily, always, etc.". Then you can instantly change
your status without having to go to the menu or in the

I downloaded the new version 6.2 and everythng worked fine. However after I
closed down and opened it back up later, it went back to the old version. I
went to the site to download it again and after downb loading it asked if i
wanted to repair or uninstall. I clicked repair and everything worked fine,
until i closed it down, then it goes back to the p;d version.
Any ideas on what to do?

Can't sign onto MSN Messenger or MSN Web Messenger

I certainly hope someone can help me. I am going crazy. I
can't seem to get MSN Messenger to log on. says I am not
on the internet or servers unavailable. Well, the system
is fine and I am on the internet.
I have been going round and round. Last time I posted
someone said to use Web Messenger. Well, when I go there
it says that a pop up blocker is detected! I don't have
any pop up blockers installed anymore. Why is it
detecting something that is not there?
I have also went to http://www.browsertune.com/bt2kfast/
to check my IE Browswer. It says that cookies are NOT
enabled and I have it set to accept ALL cookies.
I don't understand where all this stuff is coming from. I

No Audio with MSN Messenger 6.2
Hi All:
I've read through the posts here and I'm running out of ideas. I have
Windows XP SP2 installed, all the updates, a Logitech Orbit, separate
microphone, and I'm trying to set up the ability to have video calls. The
video works fine, but I can not get the audio to work - either me sending
audio or receiving audio through the speakers.
I am behind a Netgear WGT624 router and I have Norton Systemworks 2005
firewall security. (I have turned off the Norton so I'm pretty sure that's
not the problem.) I have turned uPnP ON inside the router.
I have run tests with different contacts so I'm sure the problem is on my
end. And audio works with Yahoo Messenger.

When I open a message with an attachment picture in the message it shows up
as a box with a red X in it. If I try to open the attachment itself, it is
scanned by msn the say it is ok to download. When I click to download, it

Auto-Login?
My messenger doesn't seem to recognize that I'm online (6.2). It just sits
with the X over the icon. I have to manually connect. In Tools, Options,
General I have Allow automatic sign in checked. I'm running Zone Alarm Pro
with Messenger given all options.
Any fix to make it sign in automatically when I go online?

How to config ports for MSN
Hi,
I'm using MSN version 6.2. Since I bought a Netgear broadband router, I
am not able to do neither voice nor videochat anymore.
I understand I must open certain ports on incoming traffic so to have
video and voice again.
Can somebody please tell me which ports/protocols are needed to be open
for MSN to function again?

Firewall Query?
I am experiencing poor transfer rate with some people on my contact list, and
we are trying to determine whether the problem is at my end or theirs. All
are running a broadband/high speed connection. With some transfer is fine but
with others it starts off ok then reduces to a snails pace. When this occurs
the usual firewall alert appears at the top of the messenger window
explaining slow transfer rate BUT neither people involved have firewalls on...
We are wondering whether this has come about since the server issues last
weekend? or totally unrelated...
Maybe another point to elaborate - one of the people I tried sending a file
to had this slow transfer with me BUT we could view each others webcams at
the same time fine.
Any advice or info is appreciated :)

Hi.
I'm using MSN Messenger 6.2 (Norwegian version) with Windows XP SP2.
I'm using NATP trough my DSL modem (Speedtouch), and it works perfectly.
Also using the UPnP protocol that is supported in my DSL modem.
MSN Messenger works fine all the time except after my DSL modem is being
reconfigured by my ISP.
When my modem is back online (2 mins after i get disconnected, with a new
external ip), i get this error message when trying to connect MSN Messenger
again. I've tried restarting MSN Messenger with no luck. Also checked
settings configurations suggested in other posts.
My IE settings is: Connect trough LAN. No proxy, SSL 2 & 3 is checked.
Server certificate is off.
All other internett applications works fine after the reconfigureing of my
DSL modem is done, including IE.
My only solution to this is a reboot. After the reboot i can connect again,
so it is not my firewall.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem ?

Messenger hangs
My messenger hangs when I try to open it double-clicking the icon on the
lower-right side of the screen. It is connected and logged in but won't open
the window where it shows my contacts for a long time (15-30min) When it
finaly opens, it disconnects and when I try to log in again, it hangs. But it
does not hang the computer. All other programs keep working fine. It's just
the messenger. And it only happens when I'm at work. At home I have same
version 6.2 and use same user and have no problems at all. Work computer is a

Messenger hangs
My computer is working fine but when MSN Messenger connects, if I try to open
it, double-clicking the icon on the task bar it won't open for a long time

Can't sign onto MSN Messenger
I can't sign onto MSN Messenger anymore. I am not sure
why. I get an error message saying the server is down or
you may not be connected to the internet. When of course
I am because I am here as well as on other pages.
Please do not put down to do the same things as you have
on these other posts. I have already done all that. I am
not sure why it would change now. I have not installed
anything new. I can't seem to download and install
windows updates either. It says it is doing it but when
it completes it says can not install. I am running WIN
2k. I am signed on as administrator as always.
I also can't seem to get onto MSN Gaming zone anymore
either. I thought ok, fine...I will delete the zone and
reinstall. well, it won't pop up asking to install the
files I need. It keeps on giving me message to refresh
browswer and it will work. well it DOESN'T! There has
to be something else stopping this. I have everything set
to default under tools. I even changed it to accept ALL
cookies. Nothing works.
I thought well, will try to install AIM...when I did that

I can't even get to BackChat on the zone or talk to any

can=B4t because I had exceded the limit. I have many=20
contacts, I would like to add all the contacts that I=20

can't login to hotmail
I was wondering if someone could help me out...I have not
