We have MSN clients on our LAN with web cams.
When we communicate with real-time video via WebCams BETWEEN OUR LAN
CLIENTS, do we necesarily use MSN MESSENGER server on Internet?
Where can we find Messenger Server installation (in W2000 suite, we have not
yet upgraded to XP!) ?

Regards,
Vladimir

Greetings Vladimir,

On your local network, the video connections will go directly from to your contact on the
local network *but* the MSN Messenger (the .NET Messenger Service) is still required to
sign-in, send messages, and send the invitation(s) to start a webcam conversation.

For a local solution, you would have to use either an Exchange 2000 IM server or Live
Communications Server 2003 with Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger Connect. Also, for the
Exchange/Live Comm. solutions with Windows Messenger, Windows XP would be required for video
support. You can find out more about these solutions here (obviously, they are not free):

Exchange 2000:

Live Communications Server:
http://office.microsoft.com/livecomm

MSN Messenger Connect:
