    - Both Sides Need to Invite for Video?? When using latest MSN Messenger, both sides need to activate video (invite) with 'WebCam' button in order for it to work.     - cannot see/hear other party Hello, I usually use Windows Messenger and it works very well for me. I also have MSN Messenger 6.0 which I have just started using. I completed the tuning wizard OK. When inviting my friend to a webcam, I could see my vvideo but I could not see theirs, nor hear them. They could not see/hear us either. Is this to do with port opening on the firewall ? Also, I use a digital camcorder. However, I emulate in Video for Windows (VFW) using Trackercam software. So I can't see that as being the problem.     - IM and XP firewall I just realized that after setting the XP firewall, IM does not connect anymore. Is that by design? I did not see this problem before but now, whenever I set the firewall, I get an error when signing in WM & MSNM. I have MSN8 and I have no problem signing in totheir service. Is there a workaround?     - an error when i sign in I have a problem, before some times i updated msn messenger, and i got msn messenger 6.1. Than every thing was ok, and i used to talk with my friends there and it was ok, but now i don't know what happened and every time that i sign in an arror appears and i have to close it.     - webcam and MSN IM I am a newbie to webcams so please bear with me. I am running MSN Messenger 6.1 on a Windows XP Home machine on a home network using a Microsoft MN-500 wireless base station. The computer in qestion is hard wired to the base station. Instant messenegr works fine, but I recently bought a Logitech Webcam Messenger camera. When I attempt to add webcam to an IM session, I can see the other person's picture, but both see and I only see a blank screen for me. My camera does work as I have successfully created and sent video via email using this camers.     - Video in MSN Messenger 6.1 - Audio in Messenger 5.0 - Not both I can receive and transmit audio in Messenger 5.0 but not Video I can Receive and Transmit Video in MSN Messenger 6.1. but not audio (dead silence - not even the hiss - seems like the sound card gets shut off) I cannot get both video and audio to work simultaneously in either application. Does not appear to be a firewall problem. When using 5.0 I can receive audio fine except that I also hear my audio coming through from the senders speakers and its a bit chopped up.     - Best Sound Card for Audio Conversations? Hello -- Like so many others here, I have had nothing but trouble in getting audio to work on MSN Messenger. I tried upgrading to 6.1 -- Didn't work. I tried installing the archiac version of RTCDLL.DLL -- Didn't work. I tried fiddling with my sound device settings -- Didn't work. What's really odd about my problem (at least I haven't heard anyone else describe this), is that I can hear them loud and clear, but they cannot hear anything *intelligible* from me. "Intelligible" is the operative work here, because they report that they *can* hear me typing on the keyboard or making some other non-verbal sound, and they *can* hear my voice, but it sounds to them like a "bear's growl", which I interpret to mean that my voice is coming through veeeeeery slooooooweeeed dooooown. But why would this happen?! Could it possibly be a sluggish sound system? My sound is integrated into the motherboard, while most people I have tried unsuccessfully to communicate with have a PCI card (e.g. SoundBlaster). Do those of you who have had success with audio have full-fledged sound cards, and if so, what type? I'd really like to find out if it would be worth my while to purchase a new, better card for my system just to see if it makes a difference. Please let me know. Thanks...     - MSN 6.1 Audio Issues A Friend and I both downloaded MSN 6.1 (to make sure we are running the same app) We can cannect to each other (We get connection established) He can hear me and I cannot hear him. He is running Windows 2000 Pro, and his sound meters bar IS moving. (He also passed the audio test) Neither of us are running QoS, we are both running Linksys routers with uPnP enabled. My "advanced connection information" says "You are connected to the Internet through a UPnP IP restricted NAT (Administrator)" (which is weird cause I am not logged in a admin...) His advanced connection info say "You are directly connected to the internet (No firewall)" Yet he is using the same nat I am! He is using Wireless, but I don't think that should matter.     - Video Conversations I have a desktop and a laptop that are both operating on home network. They both have Windows XP professional and they are both installed with MSN Messenger 6.1. I am attempting to set up a video conversation between the 2 computers and for some reason the desktop is not transmitting any video or audio. The laptop is working fine. Both firewalls are disabled. I know that both cameras work fine because I have swapped them between the two computers and the problem stays with the desktop.     - RTCDLL Error with Audio Tuning Wizard Just upgraded MSN ver. 5.0 to 6.0 and also tried 6.1. All was working 100% with 5.0 including Netmeeting. Now have no audio and when audio tuning wizard starts, getting "error in rtldll.dll" and MSN shuts down. Same thing happens when trying to use Netmeeting. Reloaded 5.0 and audio wizard completes task without errors. Running ME with PII 450, 128Mb ram and SB live. Any suggestions?     - I can't log in after update Hello, I had msn 4.6 on my pc an i had to upgrade for safety reasons, but after the update to msn 5.0 i had problems with logging in, so i installed msn 6.1 but the problem did not go away i get the message "Sorry we could not sing you in becorse the sign-in name you entered does not exist or your pasword is incorrect, if you have forgotten your pasword, please click help in the mail messenger window, and then click help topics for instructions for resetting your pasword. 0x81000303" But my loginname and pasword are correct becorse i can stil use them for my mail in hotmail. I have tried switching on and of the proxy's but that did not work. Can someone help me with this problem?     - Sign in name not the main users When i sign into windows messenger, the screen comes up asking if i want to sign in as one name, or sign in under a different account. The problem is, the main name that comes up is not me, but someone who used my computer once before, when we first setting up. So if i want to sign in myself, on my own computer, i have to click "sign in under a different account. I have gone into control panel and user accounts to see if i could remove the other contact from my list, but my name is the only one there.     - why no audio in 6.01 have waited for MSN Messenger version 6.1 in the hope that I would get the voice feature back from version 6.0. I only connect with my sister in another state via Messenger and we both have version 6.1. We also are both running Windows XP. We have the standard Windows XP firewall protection activated. Neither of us is on a network. We both use a dial-up ISP. We can connect our video cameras and have the text messaging feature working. It is the voice that we are missing. Every time we try to start a voice conversation we get the "cannot connect" message. The audio feature simply never gets up and running. It didn't in version 6.0 and it doesn't in 6.1. I see lots of people are having this same problem. We both have plenty of horsepower on our computers. They are both fast and full of memory.     - MSN Messenger error 0x81000365 I've installed MSN Messenger 6.1 on a Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 4). I am not able to connect, it gives me an error message stating the service couldn't be initiated because I'm behind a firewall. The code it gives me is 0x81000365. I ve got other machines on the same network able sign in on MSN Messenger, running (running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003). I've already cleared IE's cache and cookies. I've checked that IE's security settings are OK ("Check for server certificate revocation" is unchecked, "Use SSL 2.0" and "Use SSL 3.0" is checked).     - Audio not allowed into network passed server When using a Webcam chat, I'm having audio problems with a machine within my home network. I don't use a router, instead I use an XP machine to handle the internet connection sharing/firewall. The firewall is the XP one and it's set to allow other computers to change the settings. If I connect from a machine inside the network I can't get the audio to work (the vieo is fine). If I make the same connection from the machine running the IC Sharing it works fine.     - Invite problem Yesterday, my friends were unable to Invite me to an MSN conversation. I have Windows 2000 and MSN Messenger 6.1. We have done this type of conversation many times before without any problem. However, yesterday, my friends tell me that my name was correctly listed as "Online" in the MSN Messenger window but that my name did NOT appear in the list of "Invite" in the on-going conversation window. The workaround that we used was for me to start a new conversation with one of the friends then we were able to invite everybody else into that window and they closed the window in which they were already having a conversation. By not opening, I assume the main Messenger window isn't coming up?

Which Windows version are you using, and which version of Messenger are you trying to start?
