msn 7 connection problem
I cannot connect mostly every time when MSN Messenger 7 starts up
Sometimes it starts up normally
If it does connect, it stays connected. Only connecting when first starting
up is the problem.
I get the following proposed changes when running troubleshooter.
What do they mean, and can I change the back if i need to? Where is the
configuration utility??
SettingProposed
Change
Domain Authority Clear
Domain Authority Configuration Version Clear
Also, I have ZoneAlarm.
Troubleshooter says these thing are keeping me from connection.
Thanks for any help.

Unable to logon with Pocket PC
When logging on to MSN Messenger from Audiovox PPC4100 with PocketPC Version
4.20.0 (Build 14053), we receive the following error
"logon to msn messenger service failed because the service is temporarily
unavailable"
We can surf the internet, make phone calls, send/receive emails. Have had 4
Audiovox PPC4100's that I have been unable to logon to MSN Messenger. These
phones were working until we swapped users and did a Hard Reset. We have
since replaced them with new PPC4100's and still same issue. I have
downloaded latest ROM image from Audiovox and MSN Messenger update. Taken
SIM cards and placed them in other phones and connected fine. Taken SIM
cards from users with working MSN Messenger on their phone and placed card in
these 4 phones and cannot connect. Tag: backup winks Tag: 74355
MSN Chat Windows Never Show
I have a strange problem with MSN 7, now and then when people write a message
to me, it will display initially the tooltip in the bottom right hand corner
with their name and the start of the message, as if it is about to flash the
window i can now select in the taskbar, but that window is never visible, so
if i walk away from my PC, and return, and people have chatted to me, I have
to ALT-TAB to see the chat window, with the users text they sent me! What is
happening here???

Bug: Message History not saved until IM window closed.
IM conversations should update the history file whenever a comment is posted
in the window. Currently the information is not saved until the window is
closed, meaning that if you leave up an IM window for an extended period of
time your chances of losing the entire conversation history is great because
a PC crash is inevitable.
There is no feature that causes the information to be saved to the file.
The "save" feature provided is different because it is a feature for handing
the writing to a user-specified file. The only way to reliably maintain the
history of a conversation is to use the manual (and cumbersome) save feature
or constantly close and reopen the IM window.
This piece of functionality would be far more useful than those quarter
screen animations of a guy smashing a guitar. Though they are cool, I'd
rather feel safe knowing the computer isn't going to throw out my
conversation.

MSN Messenger issues
Hello:
I have used MSN Messenger with no probs for a long time. Now, when I trt to
sign in, MSN freezes (as in "program not responding" in the Task
Manager...). I have also installed the 7.0 version.
I've reinstalled maybe five times.
The program starts fine - it's only after "sign in" that the lock up occurs.
I'm on Windows XP Home Edition and everything else seems to run fine.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Help?

Didn't change anything in MSN 7. I did do an monthly update though: the

MSN Messenger 7 File Transfer Errors
I can't transfer files using MSN Messenger 7. It's been ages since I've
tried it, but I know it worked previously (MSN 6, at some level).
When I try to accept an invite for a file transfer, I get a javascript error

online and there was a suggestion to delete certain directories and try
again, but that doesn't work.
Anyone else know how to get around this?

Disturbing Impressions

I am beginning to get the disturbing impression the MSN 7 is the 900 =
pound gorilla. I have been following posts regarding 7's install =
problems along with problems with auto sign-in (My current issue) other =
device failure, lost contacts, lost files and other issues. It almost =
appears that the cage was open and the gorilla got out and now its in =
the room with us and we can't get it back into its cage.
I had successfully used 6.2 for sometime and downloaded 7 when prompted. =
My machine is a P4, 640 1GB DDR2, w/XP PRO/sp2, with automated updates. =
So the machine should be able to handle the program. After downloading =
and installing 7, I could not sign-in. Could still use Messenger =
(Windows). Uninstalled & reinstalled and then downloaded again and =
installed again and was able to sign in. I could not use my camera. =
Yea, latest drivers, on the list, all of the requirements. Still I had =
to uninstall the cameras software and then reinstall before 7 "could see =
it". =20
I shut down and restarted and 7 would not auto sign-in. Followed all =
the posts and tried all reasonable suggestions including deleting all =
app files and "s" files in registry in Protected Storage System =
Provider. After restart all appropriate files were regenerated but =
could still not auto sign-in. So I uninstalled 7 and went back to 6.2 =
and now was not able to auto sign-in with 6.2 either, and I got the same =
silly prompt to download 7. Went to JK site and downloaded 6.2 ver. =
without prompt. Then since I had wasted several days on the issue, =
decided to scan some sheets and e-mail them to my son. Office doc. =
scanner could not initialize the scanner. Camera wizard could but =
office couldn't. Uninstalled and reinstalled Office and no joy. =
Pondering on a course of action, I was surprised by a pop-up that the =
AVG virus program was out of date. Again that was setup on auto update.
I could not connect to the site and when I was able the program refused =
to download the update. Decision made.
Dumped Office & AVG and did a XP repair without format and then =
downloaded all updates and service packs and reinstalled AVG and updated =
ok, then Office and clicked Office Doc./Img. Scanner and it initialized =
the scanner. Shutdown/restart and still could not auto sign-in on 6.2. =
So in a fit of absolute stupidity I downloaded and installed 7 again, =
assuming that if a solution was available MSN 7 would prompt for its own =
update. This time I was told that my passport account was not valid =
which seemed strange since I could use a laptop, wireless routed to the =
same cable line and get on Messenger.
Back on the desktop, I could not get through to Passport to reestablish =
my account. Established a second passport account using hotmail and was =
able to send password change requests to alternate account and using =
original account address reset passwords. Now I have two passport =
accounts, neither of which will auto sign-in on either MSN 7 or =
Messenger, but from which I can sign-in to either 7 or Messenger =
manually.
The disturbing thing is that when encountering problems in the past with =
issues, I was able to go to a specific news group and with a search or a =
new post find previously posted solutions or someone with a workaround. =
On apparently new problems, a few weeks would go by and there would be a =
publication issued with a solution. That does not appear to be the case =
with 7.
I have to say that during the last several weeks following this group I =
have seen responses from intelligent & dedicated people but it appears =
that 7 has changed the normal problem/solution dynamic. Solutions are =
elusive, suggestions are tentative and successes are limited, and there =
is and obvious absence of publications with concrete corrections to =
problems listed in the recent posts.
Something bad happened to my machine when I initially downloaded and =
installed 7, and I am afraid that the only real solution is to boot from =
my XP CD and format the drive and start over. That is a difficult =
choice to make, but may be necessary if there is not soon a correction =
forthcoming from MSN.
I apologize, for this is a vent only and I don't expect a response, but =
do expect over the next several weeks to see posters begin to resolve =
troublesome issues as people poke their noses into the registry and file =
system and pick out the "bugs" that don't belong.

MSN Messenger personal background help!
I'm currently using MSN Messenger 7.0 and i'm having a problem about the
Messenger personal background. I have recently added new custom backgrounds
and in the "more" section where you get to add and change backgrounds, there
is an entry for a background called "a lone walk" which i have recently added
but when i click on it, as in trying to highlight/select it, my MSN Messenger
hangs as though the file cannot be found. When ctrl+alt+delete is pressed,
the Messenger status is "running" which means it did not stop responding.
This situation occurs all the time i tried to select the custom background
called "a lone walk". Since it hangs the Messenger, I could not remove it
from the list.
Is there a way to remove it from the list? I have tried uninstalling MSN
Messenger and reinstalling but my custom profiles are all intact and nothing
is changed including the bugged file in the custom background section.
I have also tempered with the registryedit and deleted the MSN Messenger
registries but it didn't help and it only changed my fonts back to default
and several options in the main MSN Messenger options tab. I'm just curious
if deleting the registry has effected the MSN Messenger program in anyway
except the noticable changes listed above.
Please help find a solution to remove the bugged file in my custom
background list. Thank you in advance.

MSN messenger cannot login
Windows messenger 5 works fine and uses my Net Passport account fine. I
tried MSN Messenger (from 6.2) and it will not let me log online ever even
though email address and password are ok for my net password account.
Other problems are there is, in my control-panel/add-remove, MSN Messenger
6.0 listed, and it does not exist, it says last accessed on 6/24/04. Yet I
cannot remove the darned thing from add-remove because it can't find
whatever it needs.
Also when trying to install 6.2 again it says no msnmsgs.msi exist. and I
have run around with that too.
I've spent hours running around trying to get 7 to work. I have been
without MSN Messenger for a while now.
So how do I remove the listing of MSN Messenger6.0 in add-remove programs
when the thing does not exist? And how do I get MSN Messenger to work
again? Preferably v7.
I've removed then deleted the MSN Messenger folders and have cleaned up
the registration trying to get something to reset. MSN 7 when installing
ends up with the previously used settings when installed.

Netscape 8.02
One thing which really got me PO'ed at those AoL/Netscape pukes
was the widely reported attitude that breaking XML only
affected the (apparently - to them - very rare) user that used
an RSS newsfeed.
Anyone who uses MSN Messenger's message history function
is chopped liver, apparently, not even as worthy enough
as newsfeed junkies to warrant mentioning.
Well Netscape 8.02 looks like it fixes the XML problem and
I can read my MSN IM history with it installed. But Netscape
has lost a measure of my trust and respect.

Long password problem, error 81000303
Microsoft Passport ought to inform us that long passwords
should not be used with MSN Messenger. However, sometimes it
works. I haven't figured out why or exactly when. I had the same
problems in earlier versions of MSN Messenger, both on Windows
XP and 95.
I tried to change to a 17 character long password, which worked
just fine in HoTMaiL and Passport.com, both in Mozilla and IE.
However, logging in to MSN Messenger 7.0 with that account gave
the 81000303 error.
I read the above posts about error 81000314, and shortened the
password considerably, and now I could log in, no problem.
Does anyone know what the maximum number of characters for MSN
Messenger 7 log in is?

When I have messenger 7.0 opened, it will not take me to my space when i
click on it. It worked once last night, but ever since it will not work.
Everything else works fine. It also won't let me go to anyone else's space

Free "Sprite" Pack
I have been wanting this free "sprite" pack along with other free ones that
come with msn messenger. My friends all have it and told me how to get it.
When I am in the message window, I click on "packs" and under there I only
see the bluemountain stuff that you have to buy. The sprite pack nd stuff
aren't there. I try the packs thing under my msn messenger list but the
pictures don't load up and when I click on one of them it just says "The
content installation failed. Please try again later." I have been trying this
repeatedly and I get the same results. How and I get a hold of these awesome
packs? I have completely erased the MSN files and installed it again. Same
results. What's wrong with my computer? Tag: backup winks Tag: 74227
Is It Safe?
Hi Folks,
Just thought I would check with the experts here. I am running v6.2.0205 on
a Dell XP Pro Laptop with a DSL connection through a Linksys wrt54g router.
I am completely satisfied with this version. Keep getting update notices
about a new version -v7 I suppose.
I checked out this group a few months ago and listened to a lot of v7 horror
stories and decided to wait.
What is the situation now. Should I upgrade? Is v7 as solid as 6.2.0205? Am
I missing anything?
Thanks for any input....

Run MSN with out MSN Messenger?
Ever since Messenger was "upgraded" to version 7 I have had nothing
trouble from it. I have to spend time putting it right because it regularly
produced a corrupt Main page. Since I do not use it very much, it has become
a major irritant which I would rather not have it at all.
However if I uninstall it MSN will no open.
Is there a way to run MSN without MSN Messenger?

MSN Messenger 7 Emoticon Virus???
Hi, I hope this is just a glitch in MSN Messenger, but whenever I open a
conversation with somebody, there's always either a star(*) or a devil(6)
emoticon that shows up next to their personal message in the dialog box, i.e.
(*)Bob says: or (6)Susan says:, and it comes and goes and sometimes
multiple emoticons show up "parenthesizing" their personal messages, i.e.
(*)Bob says:(*) This is very strange and I'm quite worried, I hope somebody
has the solution or knows the cause to this disruption on MSN Messenger!!!!
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MSN Messenger 7 already, and the
problem still persist!! HELP!!!! Tag: backup winks Tag: 74201
time limits/parental controls?
A friend of mine is having problems with her kids spending too much time
chatting to their friends on MSN Messenger, rather than doing their
homework. When she's in the room their homework is on the screen, but when
she leaves the room, they switch back to messenger.
Is there a way to set a time limit that her kids use Messenger, or some way
she can control when they are on?
Thanks. Tag: backup winks Tag: 74197
MSN Messenger Error Message When Trying To Set MS Fingerprint Reader
I am using MSN Messenger 6.2.0205 on Win XP Pro desktop. I have
installed and have running the MS Fingerprint Reader. I am having
problems setting up the MSN Logon information.
Whenever I try to set up MSN Messenger logon, I receive message "Your
logon data is not accessible. Please notify your system
administrator."
This is a home computer with multi-logons. What procedures do I have
to follow to have the Fingerprint Reader accept my logon data?
Thanks. Tag: backup winks Tag: 74192
New Account Problem
I have downloaded MSN 7 onto a friends computer running W98. I setup a
sign-in name and password, but when I attempt to sign in, I get an error
message stating either the sign-in name or password is wrong. However, if I
login to this new account using my own XP machine, I don't get a problem and
sign-in okay.
Now, I only set the new account up with a hotmail account, I don't believe I
set up a Passport, is this the issue?
Any advice gratefully appreciated.
