 - Msn audio problem Dear Jonathan, Thanks for your reply, i tryed to downgrade to 6.0 from the link you sent me , and i delet it the 6.1 first as you mentioned but still the audio doesnt work even though all other features work fine (webcam and file transfer is perfect) iam useing a cable connection, the modem type is ericsson pipe rider model hm204c its a digital reciver and its exclusive property of mountain cable thats what is written in the back of it . the strange thing is yahoo messenger work fine and msn messenger works fine if i use a dialup connection. this thing happened only after i upgraded to 6.1 i dont know if its the reason, i have even formated my computer to make sure that nothing has gone wrong in the system , but still having the same problem with voice it says its connecting with others computer and it takes some time then it says The audio conversation with (x) has ended. iam willing to try anything even igf i have to reformated my computer, or if you can remotley check my system to fix this problem thanks eyad Tag: automatic log in with msn messenger Tag: 39060

 - Can't Sign In to MSN Messenger Whenever I try to sign into MSN messenger it says: "sorry, we could not sign you in because the sign-in name you entered does not exist or your password is incorrect. If you have forgotten your password, please click help in the main messenger window, and then click help topics for instructions on resetting your password. 0x81000303" The thing is, I can sign onto .NET and get my e-mails, and I can even use MSN messenger on my other computer, which is on the same router.  - 64.4.12.201,7001 why do I keep getting an error on my norton firewall that says a remote system is trying to access my computer, this has only been happening recently, I have blocked it but it still keeps coming it gives the address as 64.4.12.201,7001, i am informed that this is a MSN server that is causing the problem, if it is then why is it doing it.  - ATT: Jonathan Kay Greets Jonathan, I have seen problems with audio with 6.1 but my daughter runs the wizard repeatedly before we actually get audio. No problem with video but the audio is a pain. Fine one day then the same problems the next day, and it takes a few rounds with the wizard before it is OK. Any thoughts? Thanks as always, you are a BIG help!  - messenger not right Hi. When I log in my contacts are there but the format is differnt. All it has is online and not online. It used to have coworkers, family and other contacts.  - MSN 6.0 Games I have recently reverted to MSN 6.0 as the instability of 6.1 is alarming. I'd be grateful if anyone can shed some light on a problem I'm having with the Games (Launch site)... (I have unchecked the 'always ask me for my password...' in the Privacy Tab - no different) Regardless of whether I initiate or respond to a Game request (eg Checkers), the screen is expanded, with 'Connecting' being displayed.  - help on distanceis not working I am using Messenger 6.1. One of the features is to ask for help on distance. It should be possible to connect to another computer and get control of it. Instead of that a messages appears. The message says: "The invitation for help on distance is not send, because it requiers the latest version of Windows Messenger. Go to the updatesite of Windows Messenger to install the latest version." Why is that option not working on MSN 6.1 ? THis is the latest version of Messenger. Please help me.  - Three dlls? Jonathan -- please see my last post re: rtcdll files; I'd like to rule this problem out. Today I noticed that my AOL DialUp network connection (which I never use because I have cable) was disconnected and firewalled. It wouldn't let me change properties, so I deleted it to see if it would have any effect on garbled audio. It didn't make any difference. I would greatly appreciate your opinion/suggestion and comments on this and last post re: dlls. By the way, I renamed the three dlls, uninstalled MSN and Windows Messenger, reinstalled both, and only two dlls showed up. Don't know if this means anything.  - MSN Messenger via proxy Anyone has problem when connecting MSN messenger or even Windows Messenger via HTTP proxy? Now, I'm using MSN Messenger 6.1.0203 and Windows Messenger 5.0. I just assumed that some part of Windows Messenger has been used as a base IM for MSN Messenger as well. After I captured network packet to see why I could not sign on, I found out that the MSN Messenger was trying to reach 207.x.x.x which probably be 'messenger.hotmail.com' instead of connecting to my proxy.  - application sharing in msn I am trying to use application sharing with my dad. we are able to do both audio and video in xp with msn 6.1. I have tried to use the application sharing both behind the linksys firewall on my side and infront of it. My Dad is using black ice and has it turned off. We both get the message "application sharing waiting" below the apps and chalk board. Same problem in windows messenger. I am able to bring up and use Net Meeting and the application sharing between us. I have tried to start application sharing in msn between my laptop and my main computer both which are behind the firewall and again i get the waiting message. Can anyone help.  - MSN Messenger 6.1 vs Windows Messenger Im getting confused. I thought that Windows Messenger (WM) is only for XP. MSN Messenger (MSNM) is for older OSs but works under XP. Now I see on the Microsoft site that Windows Messenger 5.0 is compatible with Windows 2000 (see: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=77c3799f-6388-4193-8002-be55584c1ac1&displaylang=en). So, are there 3 IM applications: 1. Windows Messenger for XP 2. Windows Messenger (5.0 being the latest version) 3. MSN Messenger (latest version 6.1) I just finished installing MSNM on my mothers Win2000 machine thinking that WM would not work on it.  - Audio chat not working Hi there, My friend is trying to set up an audio chat in MSN Messenger. He doesn't have a webcam, just a mic. He's gone through the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard and the mic volume works fine, but when he tries to connect to an audio chat in MSN Messenger all he gets is conversation ended. He has an on board Avance AC97 Audio sound card and is running WindowsXP Pro. He uses a router for connecting to the Internet and has firewall and AV software running.  - Unicows error on installing msn 6.1 Hi, I am hoping that someone can help me. I had an older version of msn messenger on my computer but it was accidentally deleted/uninstalled. I am not sure how - little sister can't remember what she did! I tried to download and install 6.1 but when it tries to install it comes up with the following error: error - a dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. UNICOWS.DLL I contacted msn help and they suggested that I uninstall MSN, Download Microsoft Layer for Unicode from the Microsoft site, reboot and then download msn messenger again. I have done this and I still have the error. I downloaded the unicode file from microsoft into c:drive programme files but was then advised to download it into programme files: msn messenger - I have done this and overwritten the unicows.dll file that was in there. Rebooted and tried again. Unfortunately I am still having problems. I am also now getting this message when I go into my inbox for hotmail. I wrote back to msn help and they thought that I might need to execute the unicows.exe file - I haven't got a file called unicows.exe! I have double clicked on the unicows.dll file and it comes up with the "open with" window - I haven't a clue what to open it with! I was also told to run a windows update which I have done and also have updated Explorer to 6.0.2800.1106IS and you've guessed it I still have the problem!! I can Audio to work with MSN Messenger 6.1, but only after creating a Firewall rule for Norton Internet Securtiy 2004(NIS) which allows inbound UDP communication from any computer, through any local or remote port. NIS apparently has a general rule or a MSN Messenger specific rule (which I haven't identified)that is blocking inbound UDP. The rule I created, which I moved to the top of the list, is overriding the problem rule. I am looking for information on how to narrow the rule I created. For example, I would like to narrow this rule to allow inbound UDP from only the necessary ip addresses.  - Messenger behaves strangely Hello: I would like try and do a fresh install of messenger 6.1 on my computer. I am having disconnection problems that I have requested help for twice on this site but no one seems to have an answer. What is happening is that messenger will log out and will ask me if I want to log back in. If decline it will wait a short time and then log in automatically. I do not want this. I have all the auto login features disabled plus my password is not being "remembered". I suspect I have rememnants of other version that are causing the problem and I would like to remove them.  - MSN Messenger 6.1 / annoyance + bug Hi, Today when I turned on my PC I noticed that my Messenger contact were now all in the Other Contacts category and there there were 3 new categories added: Coworkers, Family and Friends. I am not aware of having accepted or installed anything, so perhaps my wife accidentally clicked something. This is annoying but I can delete these groups again, so that's okay. HOWEVER, in an attempt to use these groups I tried moving two family members into the Family category, and in each case I got the message "Cannot move [username] to the group Family". Okay, so nevermind the categories but Messenger DELETED the users it wouldn't move...! I tried replicating this with another contact whom I moved the Friends category and there was no problem. Then I tried moving that contact back to the Other Contacts group, which was refused. Then I created a new group and moved one contacts up there sucessfully - but the next one got deleted. What gives? I'm normally a soft-spoken person, but I am beginning to think Messenger is a piece of junk I'm using WXP Pro SP1 with all publicly available patches plus NIS/NAV 2003, and my Messenger is version 6.1.0155.  - MESSENGER OFFLINE ICON DISPLAYS GREEN NOT RED Hi everyone... Not sure if this has happened to anyone else but i hope someone can help. I have Messenger 4.7.2009 and MSN Messenger 6.1.0203 installed on my Windows XP SP1 PC. My problem is that the Messenger Window that displays my contact list shows all the Contacts Icons in the Green Colour rather than showing the offline contacts in Red as was expected. I have updated my Graphics Card Drivers as well as trying out different Screen Display Resolutions with no success. I have also tried removing and then reloading messengers via the windows restore point method... to no avail. The computer has two user accounts on it, both users share the problem.  - MSN Messenger 6.1 and NAV error 3021,4 I live in Sweden, my Mum in Vancouver, Canada. Last night I was up till 02:30 trying to help her instal MSNM 6.1 Under Win 2000). Got it installed finally and managed to actually chat. Problem is though that she gets the error message "Norton Antivirus was unable to start the instant messenger scanner. It will be unable to scan instant messenger downloads for infections." Error #3021. This comes up every few minutes. She gets this even when she closes/exits completely MSNM (ie its NOT just minimised to tray). After reading various threads, she has turned off "Messenger service" via control panel. She has also unclicked the MSNM scanning option in Norton AV. Yet the annoying Norton error message popup persists. She doesn't have much patience and will uninstall MSNM 6.1 if I can solve this problem for her.  - Driver update I just updated the video driver yesterday and now getting the problem outlined in previous posts i.e contacts on messenger all the same colour!! I have tried to roll back the driver, but keep getting this message "the file 'nvrshu.dll' on NVIDIA windows xp driver library installation disk 5 is needed' Type the path where the file is located and click o.k ????????????  - Expected functionality?? When are we going to be able to appear offline to our contact list immediately after signing in. Just because I am signing in doesn't mean I want my COMPLETE contact list to know I am online. I may only want to contact ONE person. I remember this subject being discussed several years ago. Tools->Options->General, uncheck "Allow automatic sign in".
