    - No link to click after receiving file When I receive a file from a frnd online there used to be a blue link i could click on to launch the file. Now the link is gone, the file path is still there and everything its just not underlind in blue. Im so used to that i find it very inconvient to have to go directly to my recieved files folder.     - alerts in 6.2 For some reason and with no provocation messenger has stopped showing the number of emails I have and also the alerts have quit working. There is no reason for this. I have checked the settings and all is fine there. I even did a complete uninstall and did a new install. It is the same. I am truly confused. Any help would be appreciated.     - msn messenger 7 beta - application configuration is incorrect hi, I installed msn messenger 7 and after if finished installing , when I tried to run it, I got a response: c:\program files\men messenger\msnmsgr.exe This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect, and asked me to reinstall.     - signing into .net messenger service I have been trying to sign into msn messenger. getting error message 0x81000301 we were unable to sign you in to .net messenger service possible because of a problem with the server or with your internet connection I have no problem connecting to the net. I try uninstalling msn messenger and then reinstalling. during the installation it stops. installation conflict: some files that need to be updated are currently in use. every window was closed except for internet explorer so I could download msn messenger.     - ***FIX*** serflog.c virus, msn: Good afternoon folks... I have got rid of my virus!!!! Let me say this was NOT at all easy; the program that got rid of it was: http://www.free-av.com/ - antivir I completely understand the problems of the virus closing any program opened; so what you need to do is somehow get that package to your desktop, and run it by either clicking loads to overload your system, or by pressing return on your system, try get through the menus without closing the program - ignore 'close this program'? dialogues, it's the virus trying to close it! Click no then click on another button ie: shove the 'close? yes/no' dialogue box over the 'next' box, so when you press 'no' you can press 'next' in the install program... or use return again and keep your finger on it. Once it's installed, ensure you're connected through the net ( i guess you need broadband ideally...) and it'll update, then run it'll scan your computer manually (possibly with no windows displayed) and find the virus and scarily flash on your screen as the virus keeps closing it. This is because the virus closes most programs, and you'll have to be quick with your eyesight...take it easy, it'll keep flashing, so read what you can of them each time it flashes up. Restart your pc, and it should delete it, then find other parts of the virus... Tip: as it kept flashing up initially i managed to tick 'display info box' which came up with options, i changed the selection from 'always' to 'after restart', and the below option to 'delete virus' as opposed to close/clean/quarantine. It worked, and now i'm running without the serflog.c virus I do warn you, this is hard, but no other solution has worked successfully. I will be using this virus scanner from now on too! If you've any questions, please post here. To the 'regulars' if you could please put this in better words then maybe that would help people better. Unfortunately it's all about timing and overloading your CPU to install the program, but i can reassure you it does work!     - MSNMsgr 6.2 upgrade error Due to a message (and failure to start) Messenger 6.2, I attempted twice now, to install the newer version. The downlaod fails each time near the end. Frustrated, I went to microsoft.com and downloaded the entire 6.2 program (SetupDl.exe). I closed down runing programs including my anti-virus, and ran the program. No error messages were received.     - new msn serflog.c virus Hi there, Whilst i was out playing football this evening, my sister accepted a file off her friend on MSN (possibly without her friend knowing this was occurring...) called 'Best Friends' - this sounds like a randomly generated name. The task manager cannot be displayed to stop the file, but as an I.T pro, i'm confused as to what to do. Rededit can't start, as the virus closes all windows/applications, i can however use windows explorer. I think the virus is possibly named O.exe, as this wouldn't allow the computer to shutdown. My norton corporate anti-virus program *can* scan, but finds nothing. msmsgs.exe is running <--normal messenger program msnmsgr.exe is running <--*not* normal, i only have one messenger program, the above! (?) mscv.com <--google yields no results, randomly generated filename? I did manage to exit this 'mscv' by repeatedly hitting ctrl-alt-del - but it just restarted again. I feel this hidden applications O.exe is also causing problems, as well as mscv.exe Regedit wont run, msconfig WILL run - tried disabling just about everything, it done nothing; most symantec removal tools for common new propogation viruses either are closed by the virus, or find nothing. I should specify that i've connected successfully to the laptop's regedit via the wireless link (prob a good idea to disable internet access now, eh?) but i couldn't open anything down the tree, came up with an error.     - Video failure I am having a perplexing MSN Messenger video problem. I am using an Nvidia GSTi200 for video-in and capture (nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal)), the OS is Win XP sp2, CPU is AMD Athlon XP, 1400 mhz. If I use the MSN Messenger audio/video tuning wizard to select the camera to use, the picture displays and is of high quality. If I then attempt to adjust the camera settings in "Webcam Settings" I get the following error message: "You cannot change your camera settings because either your camera is not plugged in to your computer or you are using it in a video conversation with another program." This happened using version 6.0 (6.0.207) and now with version 7.0 beta. If I attempt to start video with a contact I get essentially the same message and the attempt to establish a video connection fails. Obviously, since the picture displays in the Wizard, the camera is plugged in. I have not established any other video conversations. If I use AMCAP I can adjust the camera settings and capture the image. Can you help solve this problem? Is this an SP2 problem? Tag: One way audio Tag: 67062

    - Status changed from offline to online for no apparent reason Hi, My wife woke me in a panic tonight. As she worked on her computer she was notified that my MSN Messenger at work changed from offline to online. I had left it 5 hours earlier with the status set to "appear offline". I terminal serviced into work and the desktop looked as i had left it, except MSN Messenger had me "online". The app event log did not show anything MSNish.     - crashing MSN messenger 6.2 and 7.0beta on XP SP2 and webcam Weird issue: Have used MSN messenger upto 6.2 on W2K SP4 without any prob for as well my Logitech cam as my "normal" composite cam and video capture card (Video Action!). Tried using MSN messenger 6.2 and 7.0beta on XP SP2 now after fresh install of XP SP2. XP crashes every time when trying audio/video tuning wizard to select my DV Action video grabber card and normal composite camera. MSN messenger works fine using Logitech Quickcam. All other apps (yahoo messenger, grabber card software, macromedia flash-based websites using my cam,.... ) work fine using the Video Action! grabber card, so it's ONLY MSN messenger giving the problem of XP completely crashing into bluescreen and rebooting.     - Error 1603 - MSN Messenger Dear Sir/Madam I have tried repeatedly to install the new updated version of MSN messenger onto my computer. Unfortunately on each occasion that I have tried, I receive the same error message: "error 1603: A fatal error occurred during installation" error message when you try to install a Windows Installer package. I have read the instructions on the Microsoft site relating to this problem but without any success. It says: 1. On the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer. The My Computer window appears. 2. Right-click the drive that you want to install the Windows Installer package to, and then click Properties. 3. Click the Security tab. Unfortunately there is no security tab on say, the C drive as an example. I presume that I'm doing something wrong so any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.     - Connect to IP address? I am trying to make a webcam/audio connection to a setup for a deaf person (yes, I know the deaf person can't hear audio but someone else there can). At their location they have a new type of setup where they get the video/audio on their TV and there is a camera mounted above their TV that picks up their picture. I've tried hooking up through NetMeeting which accepts an IP address but can't get it to work beyond my seeing them but they can't see me. I have tried with 2 or 3 products but it does not sniff.     - Messenger launches IE when opening hotmail Hi, is there a hack which will launch a different browser to IE when you click on the "new email messages" link at the top of messenger which indicates that you have hotmail waiting for you? It's just that as we all know IE is absolute rubbish. I still can't believe that I used it for so long and that MS have developed it so little [at least to the extent that a simple user like myself can see].     - Audio problem after reactivating Windows Messenger and installing MSN Messenger Hi I have just got Broadband and so I would like to use MSN Messenger version 6.2. But, the audio doesn't work.(Video does and I haven't tried file transfer yet) May I describe where I am so that sm can hopefully help me out. I had desactivated Windows Messenger in the past using Safe XP and XP Anti Spy (didn't uninstall it). I have now gone back and apparently undone this (Messenger should activate automatically). Do I need it as well? My fire wall is Kerio 4 and it asked me to give MSN Messenger authorisation when I first tried to use it which did. Inspite of these steps, I still have no sound. I'd like to try to write a special filter rule for MSN Messenger but I don't have enough info. I know the port numbers used but not the protocol to click. TCP 1863 (chat) TCP 6891 to 6900 (file transfer) TCP 6901 (audio) UDP 2001, 2120, 6501,6801 and 6901 (video) I also don't know or understand if I should write these rules for the local or distant ports whatever that means and whether the same rules need to be entered for Windows Messenger.     - Sign-in names in MSN Messenger 7 (Dutch versions) How to remove the sign-in names from the dropdown list in the Dutch language versions of MSN Messenger 7 (Beta)? It seems the bug in the Dutch Windows XP Home Edition versions that doesn't allow you to maintain the user list in the intended way is still not fixed (even not with SP2). Delete names via the new MSN Messenger 7 menu's doesn't work, so doesnt it work via the Windows User setup screen (select a username and click Delete doesn't do anything). The old trick to delete the file \Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Credentials\[long nummer]\credentials does no longer work, as the file no longer exist.     - Audio only a problem one way Hello I have been chatting on msn messenger for a while. A friend who I used to chat to about a year ago came back online. We both use MSN Messenger 7.0, both SP2. He can hear me perfectly in Video Conf and Audio, I can hear him ON and OFF, out of a sentance I can probably catch two words. We have both done that UPnP thingy. Both do Audio Tuning wizards, make sure Microphone is turned off for playback and on for Recording. My mate tries with two diff microphones, one on the camera and one on headphones, but the same prob on both. My friend has had a major crash which required him to wipe his hard drive
and reinstall Win ME. He then installed MSN Messenger 7.0. I also have
Msgr 7.0 but am using Win XP.
Before his crash we had excellent audio/video connections.

Now Messenger connects but audio goes only one way - from me to him no
matter who imitates the audio request. His computer indicates that he is
transmitting, mine does not indicate any transmission from him.

Suggestion?
