Webcam problem

When using Live Messenger ver 8.5 and I either attempt to send webcam images
or adjust webcam settings I get an error message saying that my webcam is
either not plugged in or is in use by another program BUT if I then go to the
audio/visual set up routine it sets up perfectly and shows the live picture
in the set up window.
