    - background I've once downloaded a background for the main menu for MSN messenger, before I had MSN 6. I removed the background or it just disappeared, I don't remember, but anyway it was gone.     - Can't establish voice chat w/ friend behind ICF Hello :) This is a strange one. I can't establish a voice chat with a friend that's using the XP ICF. I was under the impression that the ICF opens all the neccessary ports for MSN, but from some reason it seems to be failing to do this. We have absolutely no problems establishing a voice chat with Windows Messenger - everything works perfectly - but for some reason MSN doesn't want to "play ball". We're 100% sure the ICF's at fault here because when it's on we can't make a voice connection, when it's off MSN's voice chat works just fine. Also, out of all my contacts he's the only one using the XP ICF, everyone else uses different software firewalls and I don't have any problems with them :-/ Anyone got any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?     - Audio oddity I tried out webcam and audio connections with a friend who is, like me, using MSN Messenger 6 on an XP Pro system. We are both using Logitech Quickcam Pros (mine a 3000, his a 4000). He was using a separate microphone, and I was using the webcam's built-in mic. I could always hear and see him, but most of the time he could not hear me at all. When he could, it was right at the start of the connection, but never for more than a few seconds. This was despite always being able to see the green 'VU' meters bobbing up and down next to both images, so I assume that my audio was getting in to my PC - it just wasn't getting sent or perhaps received. When I switched to a separate microphone, these problems went away and we both enjoyed excellent audio and video. I removed the QoS service on my connection as per the advice elsewhere on this forum, but this problem still crops up whenever I use the built-in Logitech mic. As I'd rather use the built-in microphone, does anyone have any idea why this should be the case, and is there a workaround? I shall be testing out a bluetooth headset with it later - hopefully that will work as well as the wired microphone. Thanks, Phil Tag: Webcam issue Tag: 26879

    - MSN Messenger 6.0 I have just installed msn messenger 6.0 and two net passport accounts. When I try to log out one of my account and simultaneouly log onto another by typing in the ID and password, the messenger did not immediately initiate and seemed hang-up for about 20 minutes before it started to log in successfully.     - Jibberish text in MSN6 I have a problem little finger on my left hand and many times when I attempt to hit the shift key I also accidently hit the Ctrl or Start key. After this happens when I type jibberish comes out in the text line of my chat message. The only way I have found to change this is to exit messenger then re-start.     - Message history problem It seems that MSN 6 does not update the message log when I close the message window. After long waiting the log appears.     - Please help me out I signed in once when i first installed msn messenger 6 and accidently checked the remember my password box and now anyone can sign into my account by simply clicking on one button. I tried signing into a different account to get rid of my saved password but this did not help me. I read a help topic about deleting my passport from user accounts in control panel, the document told me to select the advanced tab but my user accounts does not have this anywhere. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, I have tried to fill the contact us form out 6 times only to have an error occur so I emailed hotmail staff with NO RESPONSE. I looked for various ways to contact someone, no actually to contact ANYONE! but this is the only form of contact that you will actually read.     - Veo Webcam Problem FINALLY SOLVED!!!!! Ok, thanks to thanks to Geeven Singh telling me to go on through the error and use the other option for cam ( I think that is what he meant for me to do if not coincidence was on my side), I got my Veo webcam to work. Aparently the Audio/Video Wizard uses the old codec for webcam detection and setting it up; this meant that in order to detect the veo webcam it needed to route the stream through the VFW Mapper. The webcam chat on the otherhand does NOT need the VFW Mapper, in fact it does not find the stream from the webcam if the VFW Mapper is used. This explains why my cam showed in the Audio/Video Setup Wizard, but not in webcam settings. So for those with Veo Webcams, simply go into Audio/Video Tuning wizard and choose the option for your cam WITHOUT the VFW Mapper For Messanger [sic], you will get an error that comes up when you choose the one with out the VFW mapper, ignore it and proceed on through the Audio/Video Wizard as normal. Is it ok that some animated emoticons stop after 1 or 2 cicles? example: crying face ":'(" will loop forever, but eye rolling smilley "8-)" will stop after one loop. So if i send a message to someona, and include a rolling smiley, if the reader is distracted by anything before reading the mesage, it will loose the animation effect, hence, the emotion transmited by that emoticon...     - msn 6 NOT working I installed msn 6 today, and everything works fine.. except that I can't send messages! When I try to send someone a message, I automatically get a "could not be delivered to recipient thing" I know there's nothing wrong with my connection. I had the old version this morning and everything was working fine. I tried uninstalling msn 6 hoping my 5 would come back but it uninstalled everything and now there's nowhere I can get version 5 again.     - That Worked Great My sister and I are both on Win XP pro, Linsys Router BEFSR41, Intel NIC card (both of ours were enabled) we disabled them. After figuring out that she did not have the most current update for the linksys, she installed that and now we work PERFECTLY. We tried disabling the QoS Packet, and that seemed to make no difference either way. I also work great with my son overseas who is on XP home, but he is not on a router, and no firewall.     - - The most embarassing question ever asked, anywhere... Okay, this is without a doubt the most embarassing question I've ever asked. And that says a lot. My MSN Messenger has been auto-logging into the service for a year... ditto with the hotmail email check. I never have to enter my password. Now I need to log in from another computer and can't remember my password. Keeping in mind that my original computer obviously knows it and has a cookie auto-logging me in... where can I retrieve this password?     - Deploying MSN 6 Seems like MSN 6 is not for the business enviorment however we like MSN 6 due to all the features. Is there a way to deploy MSN 6 over a corporate network? ALso We use MSN 6 and create .NET accounts which takes the hugh load off of us from buying a server, costs, maintiance etc buy haiving a messenging server from Exchange.     - MSN6, options in XP not in 2000 Someone told me about unclick a box and 'putting me in busy and full screen apps' blah blah for audible beep.     - unable to sign in to MSN Messenger After having trouble with MSN Messenger, I have uninstalled it and redownloaded and installed MSN Messenger version 6. It seems that whenever I sign out or close Messenger, the "default" background changes back to the MSN Default background, even though I selected "Set as Default". It says that the service is unavailable but when I check the server status it says that they are all fine. When I login with another accoutn I can login without any problems. audio/video wizard but in the webcam settings all i get is a black screen,
have got the latest drivers installed and the cam works on Yahoo
I/M......Any ideas ??

Try turning off your XP Firewall protection in the Properties of your
internet connection. That fixed the same problem with mine.

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers for your webcam? I had the
same problem of seeing a black screen for webcam, but it was resolved after
I downloaded the latest driver. I use a Creative Webcam Pro.
