Vista Home premium and Windows LIve messenger

I have tried my best for last 1 week but MSN live messenger does not work on
my vista. I mean doesnot go ONLINE. I even tried 7.5 but it asks for an
upgrade. I am really stuck. I have a DSL connection, Netgear 8234 Router
version 2.
I get this error Error Code: 81000306.
I tried working through disabling firewall but still no luck. Do you have
any solution for that. I would really appreciate this. Just one more question
why after so much work and other efforts why is this that Vista is giving us
such a hard time. I have added msn in my allowed firewall list too but of no
avail.

Finally I sloved the issue by down grading the firmware of my net gear router
modem. I wonder microsoft does not have people of that caliber to think on
these creative lines? It seems there is a brain drain in here.
