Bellow is some troubleshooting steps. After each step please try using MSN
Messenger and checking if the audio is working yet, if at any point you try
using MSN Messenger and audio begins working there's no need to continue
troubleshooting.
a.. Make sure:
a.. That you have the latest MSN Messenger version
(
http://g.msn.com/7MEEN_US/EN_0322/INSTALL_MSN_MESSENGER_DL.exe); even if
you think you have the latest version please download it again.
b.. That you have the latest Windows Messenger version
(
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?freeText=%22Microsoft+Windows+Messenger%22).
c.. That you have the latest Service Pack available for your version of
Windows
(
http://www.google.com/search?q=Microsoft+Windows+%25version%25+Service+Pack).
d.. That you have the latest Internet Explorer version
(
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/).
e.. That you have the latest DirectX version
(
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/).
f.. That you have the latest Microsoft Update's
(
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate).
g.. That no issues are reported after running Windows Live Safety Center
(
http://safety.live.com) and PCPitStop (
http://www.pcpitstop.com).
b.. During your audio/video conversation make sure that your microphone
and audio is not muted; look for red crossed-out circles.
c.. Make sure your volumes are turned up by looking in the Sounds and
Audio Devices section of the Control Panel.
d.. Check to make sure that your speakers or headphones are plugged into
the line out rather than the headphones out port.
e.. Turn off the QoS Packet Scheduler:
1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
2. If you're in Classic view skip to step 4.
3. Click Network and Internet Connections.
4. Select Network Connections.
5. Right click your Internet Connection, and then click Properties.
6. Uncheck the "QoS Packet Scheduler" and select OK.
a.. If you're still having trouble please reply with as much information
as possible including error messages and numbers for further evaluation of
your problem.
