Hi all,

I have a friend who was running Win 98 and msn 6. We
could connect to each other fine. She has now just had
win 2000 installed onto her machine and we cannot connect.

Does anyone know whether this is a Win 2000 issue or a
firewall issue?
If its a firewall issue what ports need to be opened for
video to work?

Thanks

Gav

Greetings Gav,

Windows 2000 doesn't have a built-in firewall or anything like that -- as well, assuming
you're using the 'Webcam' function, it should be able to use a 'relay' server to send video
to your contact, so it should work regardless.

It's possible with the latest worms going around that the relay server (or the connections in
between) are saturated enough that you can't connect, you might just want to try again.

For reference, the 'Webcam' option in MSN Messenger 6 uses port 9000 (and 80 when it uses the
relay server).
