No, none of the current large instant messaging networks are compatible with another -- ie.
AOL users can't IM Yahoo, Yahoo users can't IM .NET Messenger, .NET Messenger users can't IM
AOL (and so on, mix and match as you like). AOL users and ICQ users do have some
interoptability features (but ICQ is owned by AOL).
The closest you can come to this is by using a client which supports all the networks, like
Trillian (
http://www.trillian.cc).
