I have Windows Messenger 4.1 installed on my computer,
together with MSN Messenger 6.1. Both Messengers are
signing me into the Messenger from the same XP user
account.

I am not able to see the Windows Messenger in the Control
Panel -> Add / Remove Programs list ...

I also tried to just delete the C:\Program
Files\Messenger folder, without much luck ...

Anyway I can just have MSN Messenger 6.1 on my computer?

Thanks,
Sam

Note that if you hack Windows Messenger off of your machine, several features in MSN Messenger will no longer work. I'm sure that someone else will post the way to hack it off, but perhaps you can try this first...

Go to Windows Update and let it scan your system...we want to make sure you have the latest build of version 4.7 of Windows Messenger installed for best feature usage with MSN Messenger.

Then open Windows Messenger from the Start menu, click Tools->Options->Preferences, and uncheck both "Run when Windows starts" and "Allow to run in the background". This will prevent Windows Messenger from automatically starting, and also help to prevent it from stealing your logon away from MSN Messenger.

This is disabling Messenger Service. Messenger Service (the LAN
messaging tool) has absolutely nothing to do with Windows Messenger (the
IM client) or MSN Messenger (another similar but different IM client).
