Hi John,
Messenger can pull all sorts of data through, from file transfers, to display pictures, to
winks, to custom emoticons. The "nudge" is a simple standard bit of Messenger data and is a
byte at most. I don't really see how it could affect such transfers.
I don't really know what to tell you besides to install a packet scanner on one of the PCs
and see what's going on.
