My Instant Messenger icon occassionally turns black. Is
this normal? Sure looks suspiciou to me.

Yes, sounds very suspicious. Out of curiosity, which video card/chipset are you presently
using?

Also, do you happen to use Remote Desktop in Windows XP a fair amount?

This is an older IBM Aptiva with an integrated ATI video
card. No, I don't remote desktop although I did it once
through messenger long ago with my sister just to check it
out. I run windows me. Actually, upon closer inspection
the icon is just the same one only black. Very interesting.
