When I went to 8.1 it didn't work that well and has lots of annoying little
quirks and little tricks you have to use to make it work, but since I didn't
use it that much it wasn't worth going back to 7.x.

(For example, when I send a message to someone it will sign me out, and then
I have to sign back in, switch my status to online again, and resend the
message. From there it works OK until I want to send a message to a
different person, and then the same thing happens...)

Is 8.5 a better product or does it have *more* problems than 8.1? I'd like
to know the experience of those who had 8.1 and upgraded. Thanks.

Greetings Tony,

Although what you're suggesting certainly isn't typical behavior 8.5 does have a variety of
fixes, including connectivity changes.

However, good majority are for dealing with issues on Vista, so this obviously doesn't apply
to you (7.0 doesn't work on Vista).

Thanks for the reply Jonathan. I beg to differ a bit - I think many people
had a rash of different problems with 8.1 when they were forced to upgrade.
It's hard to know the numbers, but the reports in this forum alone are
indicative of that. While the problems I've seen may not be typical, it does
seem that the last truly stable version was 7.5, at least in my experience
and based on anecdotal reports here and elsewhere. If 8.5 doesn't improve
upon the stability issues of 8.1 I sure don't want to upgrade, so just
looking for some user experiences here to make a judgement.

Hi Tony,

Well, my experience is favourable... :)

I've yet to see a Messenger upgrade to perfectly.. an impossible thing methinks.

Gents, I have used 8.1 and 8.5 on both xp and vista and have had no problems
other than my remote assitance has stopped. Read "remote assistance quit
working" and maybe you can offer me so help.

Thanking you in advance for all your time in this matter. Sincerely,
