Although I don not have messenger running at the time, these processes are
running:

usnsvc.exe
Explorer.EXE
winlogon.exe
msn_sl.exe
WLLoginProxy.exe

I'm particularly concerned with Explorer.EXE due to the use of capital
letters as the file is all lowercase letters in the windows folder, where it
says the file is located.

Well all the other processes are fine. I'll detail them for you:
usnsvc.exe = Messenger's USN service which monitors files changing for Sharing Folders
winlogon.exe = Part of the Windows login process
msn_sl.exe = The MSN Toolbar
WLLoginProxy.exe = Synchronizes login with Messenger and Windows Live login on the web

If you're using Vista, you can just right-click the processes in the Task Manager and choose
Properties to see the full path of these things (to double-check on your explorer problem).
Otherwise, if you're using XP or 2k, you can use Process Explorer and do the same thing:
