    - new patch I have updated my windows live and messenger plus but now the old pach doesnt work. Can someone please tell me where I can find the link to the latest patch for this Messenger Plus Live version. 4.21.0.270 (released 16/5/07) The Messenger Live version that I am using is 8.1.0178.00 I would prefer a patch by Patchou as he seems to have the options that I find more useful than other patches.     - Can't sign-in I'm using WLM 8.1 (build 178) and i can't sign-in. I'm using a Proxy called CensorNet (is in the company) The problem here is that with Msn 7.0 i can connect, then, why with 8.1 (and in fact since 7.5) can't do it ? The problem is not the firewall/proxy/antivirus. If was tha case then i can't sign-in with Msn 7.0 eather I know that is a Log file of the connection but where can i send it ?     - Keyboard Language Not sure if this is the proper place to post this but I'm desperate. When I'm using MS Word, my apostrophy/quote key gives me â??â??â??â??. When I hold the shift key and press the apostophy/quote key gives me â??â??â??â??â??â??. These seem to be the only 2 keys that are incorect.     - How do I change my Messenger country of origin? When I initially signed up for a Hotmail account/Passport account, I was living in Thailand, so I selected it under the "Location" option. Nowadays, I live in the US (my country of origin), yet I still have all these Thai features associated with my Windows Live Messenger and Hotmail account that I want to get rid of. All the sidebars to next to my messenger contacts are Thai links, as well as the advertisements on the bottom bar. Now my question is, how do I change my settings from Thailand to the US?     - Messenger 8.1 Hi, I just installed version 8.1 messenger, and have lost some of my emotions but not all of them. I can locate tthem on my computer through C/documents&settings/owner/applicationdata/microsoft/msnmessenger and change them from dat files into gif files to view them so I know they are there.     - missing 10% to 25% of messages from one contact? Hey, I'm using Windows Live Messenger and I seem to be missing 10% to 25% of messages from one contact. They are also missing the same amount of my replies. They just never arrive. This particular contact is the person I chat with most online. I have not experienced this problem with anybody else. Has anyone got any idea what the problem may be, or even where I can get some online support? We're both using version 8.1 and Windows XP.     - Icon appears after uninstall I have been trying like crazy to remove every vestige of Windows Live Msgr from my Dell Inspiron notebook. It kept crashing and conflicting with other applications.     - Custom Emoticon GIF Transparency Sometimes I create my own custom emoticons from .GIF images edited in Photoshop CS2. Even though I made sure that the background is transparent, and not merely white, it appears as black (the parts that were supposed to be transparent) whenever I use the custom emoticon in Windows Live Messenger 8.1. It's fine when I use the right-click -> Add functionality for emoticons I see my friends using, but the emoticons I create myself just doesn't seem to want to have transparency... Not succeeding, mind you, but trying. 1:00pm - This afternoon finds me at my desk, happily munching on my salad. I decide that now is a good time to check up on my email, as I haven't even glimpsed at it in the last few hours and email, much like rabbits, tend to multiply out of control unless one sternly takes them in hand. [Aside: We have rabbits in Redmond. All over the campus! I love watching them hoppity hoppity. They look embarrassingly productive. :)] So that's what I do. Munch my lunch, and read my email. Yawn. Let's move on, shall we? 1:45pm - Lunch completed, I now attempt, once again, to return to my test cases. This time, I am more determined so I set my email to "OOF - Out of Office" and set my Personal Status Message on Messenger to "Do not Disturb Unless there is a Fire or Someone has Donuts". I would nail my office door shut but (1) I may have to.. well.. you know... leave at some point and (2) my officemate may become cranky with me. Hiding works wonders and I actually get through a few test cases before.... 2:20pm - I realize that I am going to be terribly blocked on a large- ish number of my test cases if I don't modify a few of my tools. It has been something I have been MEANING to get to, but hey. Did I mention the four iterations of Messenger?!? Also, I sleep sometimes. And sometimes I eat NOT AT MY DESK. So, I am thinking "No time like the present!" and I pull out some code I inherited and start spec'ing out the changes I am going to have to make to get my test cases run. Specifically, I need to try to figure out how the heck am I going to test how Messenger reacts when (and if, of course) various servers return with a whole host of different types of Errors. Parse errors. Disconnect errors. ServerBusy errors. Etc, etc. Now, instead of giving you a blow-by-blow of my BRILLIANT and INSIGHTFUL coding that resulted in an INCREDIBLY USEFUL tool (grin), I will instead, explain somewhat of why these tools are necessary. Ok. Imagine you are a Messenger User. WHAT?!?! The deuce you say! A Messenger User?!? Yes. Imagine that you are. Now, you, as a Messenger User might get annoyed or somewhat, dare I say, peeved if a tester (such as myself) requested that a number of livesite (i.e. "in the world") servers be made to throw errors all over the place just so I could be sure that Messenger reacts well to server errors. Now, wouldn't you be a bit peeved? Miffed maybe even? Exactly. And yet, as a diligent Messenger tester, I must make sure that those test cases are run. Enter... tools. Instead of creating havoc for you, the loyal and ever so mellow Messenger User, I am instead creating a Fake Server. One that will throw errors on demand! Yay! Cool huh?!? A FAKE server!!! Yeah, well, each to his or her own... =3D) 4:30pm - Having spec'd out my FakeServer (yes, I named it FakeServer), I am now diligently coding away, creating UI, and, on occasion, looking over my emails to see if the livesite issue I saw earlier in the morning is progressing well. Email, again, like rabbits, often misbehaves when not watched. People might want something from me or worse, volunteer me for something. Yikes!! Can't have that! "Oh, we need someone to sit in their office for the next few days doing nothing but sipping luke warm tea and reading SuperBoring=E2=84=A2 documents while humming showtunes. Well, Wendy will love to do that!" Uhm... Negatory!! If something like this occurs and I am on email, I can quickly respond with something like "Well, while I would LOVE to volunteer for this RIVETING and EXCITING venture, I am, unfortunately, allergic to SuperBoring=E2=84=A2 documents and showtunes make me hurl. So sorry!! Also, my religion forbids me from drinking tea. Luke warm tea is right out." See? Vigilance! Ever, vigilance. 6:30pm - Having completed Phase I of my Great Tool Project, I am considering scooting on out the door. And, if I had been wise, I would have done exactly that. However, I have a small thought instead (dang those small thoughts!) and decide that if I just waited a few minutes, I could contact some of our overseas partners and make sure that they can access my FakeServer. I mean, as sweet as it is to have a supercalifragilistic and expialidoceous FakeServer all to myself, it won't be very useful if it just sits on my desk looking lovely. So, I wait. Sure enough, a few of my China friends come online and I ask them if they can access my shiny new toy. They can't, so I decide to take a few more minutes to see if I can rectify the situation.... 8:30pm - Which I finally do at some unholy hour of the night. Not that 8:30 is ghastly, but it's not nearly as nice as say 6:30 (snort). But, diligence has paid off and my coworkers, friends, allies, partners, etc can now access the FakeServer as well. In addition, I have also began spec'ing out Phase 2, and I was able to spend a few minutes running yet another test case! Woohoo! And that was my day. A Tuesday, in fact. It was a long day, as a lot of them are, but there are also the days that are meeting-free with no real deliverables that find me taking a long lunch in the dog park with my neighbor and his little baby dog (or the 'lbd' as he calls him). And there are days that I spend doing nothing but email, and days when I do nothing but code, and days when I am running test cases, madly, in an attempt to track down a bug or make a deadline. There are days when I ask myself what the heck am I doing here and who in the heck are these people?!? And there are days that I can't believe that I get to do what I do AND that someone actually pays me to do it. Like, they pay me money! Muah ha ha ha!!!     - Live Messenger 8.1 Intermittent Connection I'm running Windows Live Messenger 8.1 and can connect to the Messenger service, view presence, send IMs, etc... all OK however the connection regularly drops in and out. It auto-reconnects OK but it is frustrating especially if you're in a middle of typing an IM. I'm running Windows XP Media Center with Zone Alarm Security Suite Firewall. Direct connection to ISP or via NAT router makes no difference.     - Not receiving messages is getting worse and worse! Well, reading a lot now on the net and in newsgroups and experiencing it myself: error messages like "The message can not be delivered" ... and also sending a message, no errors buit the other never receives my message and the other way around too. All my contacts are now having the same problems. It is doing this for some time now but (like usual) the status page is saying that all is well. Is there anything know about this problem and it's cause?     - Messages that are send, were not received Well, seems that I am not the only one although the scenario looks a tiny bit different ... this at random for the last 2 weeks or so: contact and I are chatting without a problem, then suddenly all is quiet ... my contact though is typing her messages (which I can't see) and sending them, no error or whatever on her site ... but I do not receive them!?     - MSN does not connect....no error message Hi, when I try to connect using MSN, it simply wouldn't connect and there are no error messages. I am on Windows XP and I've tried everything. MSN 7.5, 8.0, 8.1, uninstall and then reinstall, restarting the computer, restarting the router, anti virus and anti spyware, etc. Nothing works. It's been like this for 3 days and doesn't look like it's gonna get better. What happens is this: 7.5 - I click on the desktop icon, MSN sign in software pops up, I click on sign-in and the icon spins, but after a while just gets stuck. The software hangs and I have to close it using task manager. At the end CPU usage for that process is 84000. 8.0, 8.1 - When I click on the desktop icon, the software doesn't even start. Nothing pops up. There is a msn task in the task manager that's at 7000-14000. Evertyhing I click on the desktop icon there's a process in the task manager, but nothing show up on screen. Weird thing is when I unplugg and replugg my router, the software will pop up as soon as I unplug it. But of course, once I plug it back in, it will be like 7.5 and just freeze. Not sure if anyone has already asked about this before, but here it goes: I'm able to login to my MSN Messenger and see all my buddies, my buddies are able to see that I'm online as well. I can send them messages no problem, but cannot receive them. Let me explain further. There're actually 2 scenarios. 1) My buddies cannot send my any messages/initiate conversation at all. 2) I'd initiate a conversation, and able to receive messages from my buddies, however, after a few minutes of inactivity, I'd fail to receive any new messages.     - One Way Audio Live Messenger I am running live messenger version 8.1. Video is fine but the contacts cannot hear me, I can hear them ok. I have tested this with my firewall and security disabled and the problem is still there. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled messenger.     - Video call with friends with no sound Hi. This is Gibson. I got same issue with my Windows Vista Ultimate + MSN live messenger 8.1. I installed Vista yesterday and installed msn and logitec fusion camera. Seems good when I configure fusion using its software. Then I configure msn video settings. It seems good also. Has sound and video. But when I share video with my friend, she can not hear my voice and I can't configure the volume bar of msn messenger. I am not sure if it is msn issue or not but since I saw there are others encounter the same issue here. I start to believe this is MS issue. Does this forum have MS people?     - Error 80048821 after installing WLM (8.1) I have updated from Messenger v7.5 (which was working perfectly for months!!!) to the latest version of WLM (8.1) [from http://imagine-msn.com/messenger/launch/en-GB/]. However, at logon I keep getting the error message #80048821 ("Windows Live Messenger could not sign you in because the sign-in name you entered does not exist or your password is incorrect"). Although clearly there was notthing wrong with my password/email (yes, I checked caps lock etc!!!!!!!) I followed the instructions to change my password, but it made no difference. my screen goes blue and my pc starts to dump memory to save it from a
crucial systembrakedown. Anyone know what might be the problem?

Same problem for me!
Yesterday I downloaded and installed MSN 8.1 and when my contact tried
to share folders, XP went in blue screen.
So I tried to receive a file with messenger and blue screen AGAIN!

Anyone has a clue? It seems that several people is in the same
situation!

welcome folks to the misterious issue.
.. i think it must have something to do with alien hacking .. i'v reported
this situation several times .. found some people with the exact same
problem .. but no one seems to know an answer .. or a fix.. and what's more
strange .. vey few people seem woried about it.

so.. better stop talking about this issue or one of these days you'll find
youself being scanned by the fbi .. cia .. mossad or in the worst case
scennario .. abducted by some alien nation to do some kind of sexual
experience with you.
