Sending files trough MSN Messenger is suddenly very very slow. In window it
says then in blue "When the upload speed is slow, click here to find the
cause". But when I click there, all I get is a non excisting MSN Help
page??? There is only a message saying: "There has been a problem. Try
again". I can try again a thousand times, but nothing happens.

Greetings Menno,

Well, as you already are aware this is the result of not being able to make a direct
connection to your contact either due to a firewall or usually a NAT (router). In the latter
case, switch on UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) in the NAT will solve the problem, assuming it
supports UPnP.

You can check your network situation by clicking the Tools menu (or pressing Alt-T) then
Options, then Connection category, waiting for a few seconds and seeing what it says how
you're connected (the third paragraph).

Ahhh ... ok, I am indeed on a new ADSL connection with a modem that is set
as standard as router and with firewall. But that is all I know ... really
don't know how to change that or MSN Messenger so that it works allright. I
did look through the Help pages that are offered on the Connection tab but
most pages do not excist and redirecting me to the main WindowsXP pages on
the Microsoft site :-( Is there somewhere a site which handles these
router issues with MSN Messenger?

Hi Menno,

That'll do it. Going into the modem configuration and turning off the router/firewall
functionality (sometimes this is referred to as bridging mode if you're looking for keywords)
will solve your problem.

I've always wanted to add such a thing to my site, but it hasn't happened yet.
