1. Please don't use system restore to "restore" msn messenger. While you do
restore it, your msn messenger could've been corrupted to begin with, so
you're reinstalling a corrupted installation of it basically. That, and
the fact that the microsoft NTFS file system isn't the most stable (but is
the most stable microsoft has yet built), you could be corrupting a lot of
other things. Please do not use system restore to restore anything: it's
better to reinstall. System restore should be used only in cases of a
"crash".
2. I suggest this: uninstall msn messenger, then dump the windows temporary
file folder (C:\Windows\Temp or C:\WINNT\Temp), then clear the temporary
internet files, then try to download msn messenger to a folder and install
it from there.
3. System restore in and of itself is also a stupid idea. The by far better
idea would be to back up your information to a cd, and uninstall / disable
the system restore feature. Not only will this prevent tons of extra files
being written to the hard drive (by system restore; this tends to cause
file system fragmentation), but if your system really DID crash, more than
likely you might as well just reinstall windows xp or whatever version
windows and then put all your data back on your hard drive. You might lose
some of your software, but if you purchased your software you should be ok
(i.e. you have the cd's, just reinstall it all).
