Web cam Problem by Chris

Ronnie,
I was having the exact same problem when using my video
camera as a web cam. One thing I just read in the manual
is this: "when you use WinXP, the other parties via the
network have to use Windows Messenger on WinXP. When you
use an operating system other than WinXP, the other parties
via the network have to use MSN Messenger on an OS other
than WinXP." I imagine since it seems like an operating
system type issue, that this would be an issue for any and
all web cams. I submitted a ticket to MSN Help anyway, so
who knows. But it just might come down to what OS are you
and your friends running? I'm on WinXPPro, and my brother
isn't and that's the problem we're running into. My two
cents...

Ronnie,
Just in case you happen to be using a dig video cam:
C&P'd this from an earlier post by Jonathan Kay (MVP).

There are actually two different video functions within MSN
Messenger 6.x. The first, the
"Webcam" function, which is tested by the "Web Camera
Settings" dialog, basically supports
actual "Webcam"s only. It does not support DV/firewire
cameras, digital cameras, or video
card inputs. The second, the "Video Conference" function
is tested by the Audio/Video Tuning
Wizard, supports most devices including DV cameras and
video card inputs and uses the same
functionality as Windows Messenger.

The Video Conference and Audio/Video Tuning Wizard will
only be available on Windows XP (and
both you and your contact must be using Windows XP in order
for it to work). Assuming both
of you are using Windows XP, try using the Video Conference
feature instead, by clicking the
Actions menu within a conversation window and choosing
'Start Video Conference'.
