Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out if any port forwarding needs to be done to
get MSN working properly. I have a Linksys router with Comcast cable
internet. With Messenger 6.1, everything works fine except for voice.

Do I have to forward a port to get this working? Also, if I have two
computers at home I want to use MSN messenger with, how do you forward
a port to two different computers?

Thanks for the help.

Greetings Ashkan,

Actually forwarding ports won't help you, as Messenger makes use of Universal Plug and Play
(UPnP), which among other things, allows Messenger to automatically open and forward the
ports it needs on multiple PCs (therefore allowing you to use voice conversations on both
PCs, with no configuration required).

However, you may need to upgrade your Linksys router to the latest firmware in order to get
UPnP functionality:

As well as turn on UPnP in the router configuration (you'll need to reboot your computer also
if you had to turn on UPnP and/or upgrade the firmware).
