    - any truth to this jonathan Yahoooooooooo........... oops.. rather MSNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....... my MSN now works, I found out that when I had installed Tweakmaster, I had enabled DNS accelerator. This stupid function had writen the DNS value for loginnet.passport.com in the windows Hosts file and in the registry. For some unknown reason all other methods of modifying the host file would not work. I then had to manually open my hosts file and delete the entry and now MSN works great. ?????????     - File transfers keep failing Hi, A few weeks back my friend could send me game demos, etc which were about 15-25 megs each. Then he went on Holiday since he has come back the file transfers dont work anymore. They start but time out after about 20 minutes, (they have been recieving data the whole time). Another friend had this sending something to his friend but the file was only 9 megs. Have they put a limit on the size of a file you can transfer.     - messanger automatically signs on my husband is having a problem with his computer at work. He clicks on the messanger icon and it automatically signs him onto messanger. They are running XP there and we are not sure if that could be the problem.     - MSN Messenger I got a new computer a while ago and the internet explorer has a direct link to msn on the task bar. When I tried to upgrade to msn 6.0 it still kept the old msn. now it signs me on whenever the computer is turned on and I can't figure out how to stop it from doing that. It's really annoying because I never know when it's on. It also sometimes signs me out of msn 6.0 if the internet is having problems and signs me in to the old msn.     - Messenger 6.2 UPnP detection I have a Linksys WRT54G router with UPnP enabled. I have "Universal Plug and Play" and "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client" installed. The Plug and Play and SSDP Discovery Services are running. The MSN Messenger 6.2 Advanced Connection Information says "You are connected to the Internet through a non-UPnP port restricted NAT. (Administrator)". I have the latest firmware installed in the router. I have reset the router and restored it to factory settings. I have Norton Internet Security 2004 installed. I have tried disabling Norton. The Windows firewall is off. Windows Messenger says "You are currently connected to .NET Messenger Service using a direct connection (no firewall)." I am able to send and receive files using both MSN and Windows Messenger. I was able to establish an audio chat connection using Windows Messenger but the person on the other end could not here me. (It may be a configuration problem on his end). The fact that I can send and receive files and establish an audio connection leads me to believe UPnP is actually working.     - Try this to resolve the sound problem with Messenger 6.2 and a router My configuration: WinXP Pro Linksys WRT54G with UPnp enable MSN Messenger 6.2 Messenger detect the router is UPnP : Tools/Options/Connection Tab/Advanced connection information message is "You are connected to the internet through a UPnP port restricted NAT" ...But no sound!!! Try this (it worked for me) 1) Verify SSDP Discovery Service is Running 2) Verify Universal Plug and Play Service is Running 3) Internet Gateway Device and Control Client is enabled. How to install it : Go to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in Control Panel Choose ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS Click on NETWORKING SERVICES and then choose DETAILS Make sure 'Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client' is checked Make sure 'Universal Plug and Play' is also checked. Hit OK/APPLY to make sure everything is enabled. Reboot. 4) In CONTROL PANEL/NETWORK CONNECTIONS, right click on "Internet Connection" and select the Properties command. In the General Tab, click on Settings to view current UPnp opened ports.     - messenger voice chat I can't get msn (I have the latest version)voice chat to work on my comp (windows messenger voice chat won't work either)..I can hear the other person fine..and I can see green moving for my mic..but the other person can't hear me or see green moving by me. My mic works for everything else, so it's not the problem. I do have a firewall (the one the comes with xp), but I've tried voice chat without it on and it still won't work.     - Crazy 'Select a Contact' Windows Hi, I really hope you can help.......... A couple of weeks ago I started getting error messages like "Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". I was on an older version of MSN messenger, so decided to upgrade to Messenger 6.2 This removed the above messages, but now as soon as I open MSN Messenger (regardless of whether I sign-on or not) I get every few seconds, a new window entitled "Select a Contact" either empty if I'm off-line or with the names of any buddies online if I'm signed-in. The windows, just keeps coming every few seconds and you have to keep cancelling them to get rid of them. It makes it impossible to use your computer. The only way to get rid of them is to go to the task manager and end the MSN messenger from this window. I have tried everything (with and without Norton Virus) Deleting and re-installing 6.2 (completing removing MSN Messenger beforehand). I have installed all the MS patches I can find, I'm running on XP Home. Please help otherwise I'm never going to be able to use MSN Messenger again!!! Thanks - Simon. ps. It has quit working, I fixed it, then it quit pointing to Hotmail, it won't install over itself when I try repairing and uninstalling then installing doesn't work either. I purchased 2 webcams and have successfully used audio/video between any two of them using windows messenger. Since audio is not compatible between windows messenger and MSN messenger I have downloaded MSN messenger as most people, I want to converse with, have the latter. But, I cannot get the audio to work in MSN messenger. It just gives a message "connecting with ..." and then after some random amount of time a message "The audio conversation with ... has ended."     - Not enough space for all tabs due to new XBox tab MSN recently added the XBox tab to MSN Messenger. Because of this, I can no longer see all of the tabs because the bottom one is pushed out of the window. I cannot make the MSN Messenger window any taller, because there is no more room on my screen.     - File Transfer, More Info Using messenger 6.1 here but also have windows messenger 5. Me and a friend both using the same two applications did some testing and from what I can tell the only file transfer that fails behind my d-link DI-614+ router is when I try to send a file using msn messenger 6.1 to a user who is using windows messenger. As long as my friend is using msn messenger I can send the file but I cannot send to anybody using windows messenger. I can, however, send to anyone using either program using windows messenger. Hi there, I have Windows XP. In MS Internet Explorer, I have cookies disabled for privacy reasons. I want to use MSN Messenger. MSN MEssenger appears to require a .NET Passport ID. The .NET Passport ID appears to require me to havve cookies disabled

I tried editing the cookies control so that passport.net and passport.com are allowed. However, I still get an error message stating I have cookies disabled

Does MSN Messenger require me to disable ALL COOKIES
