Hi,

I'm having 2 problems with my Messenger and will really appreciate all advice.

1) Window Messenger
Windows Messenger will automatically sign me in once I switch on my PC. I'm
on broadband and my Internet is connected at all times.

I have already UNchecked the boxes 'Automatically run Messenger when I log
on to Windows' and 'Allow automatic sign in when connected to the Internet'.
It seems that both don't work for me, even after trying to check and then
uncheck the boxes again several times.

Any clue on how can I prevent Win Messenger from signing me in
automatically, without removing it together? (as I may still want to use it
occasionally though)

2) MSN Messenger 7.0
Every time I try to use Audio/ Webcam or even by clicking on Webcam Settings
for MSN 7.0, it will result in an immediate crash.

I'm using Windows XP with SP2 installed, and my webcam is Creative Webcam NX
Ultra. The webcam's drivers are updated, and both audio and webcam worked
perfectly fine for me with MSN 6.2.

As I prefer the new features of MSN 7.0 to 6.2, any advice please on how to
solve this for MSN 7.0?

Many many thanks!

Greetings Chloe,

1 -- Something is starting Windows Messenger; do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent
versions of Norton Antivirus added a new "instant messaging scanning" feature, which can
conflict with Messenger and cause it to also keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus
(Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the
clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck
MSN Instant Messenger or Windows Messenger (depending on version) and click OK.

2 -- Don't believe there's anything you can do personally to fix this.

Does the camera work in the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard? Are you sure the
camera is plugged-in and has all the latest drivers installed?

Thanks guys for all the advice...

1) Believe Norton Anti Virus is the cause for starting up Windows Messenger,
and after trying out Jonathan's directions, Win Messenger no longer starts-up
by itself.

2) As for the webcam/ audio crash, realises that it will happen whenever a
contact attempts to send a webcam invite while the webcam is not plugged in.
Therefore, i simply have to ensure that my webcam is connected at all times.

Thanks all for the solutions!
