I upgraded to newest version (6.1) and now I cannot
connect at all. Keeps coming up with errror 0x81000301.
When I had the old version it would connect with no
problem. It has been four days since I installed the new
version and have yet to successfully sign in. Thanks for
the help.

Greetings JKM,

Here are some suggestions you should check/try if you haven't already -- I'd suggest you look
at 4 or 5, since this happened just as you upgraded to the latest version:

1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password @ http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf to
something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet, especially since you
upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall
if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).
6. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the
Delete Cookies button.
7. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then
Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check
for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
8. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK

If none of these solutions work, let us know and we'll see if we can further assist.

In Internet Explorer, on the Help menu, click About
Internet Explorer.
The level of encryption on your computer appears next to
the words Cipher Strength. Verify that the Cipher Strength
value appears as 128-bit.
Click OK.

If its not on 128BIT then download this:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6s
p1/default.asp

After you download Internet Explorer again you need to
UPDATE windows straight away here:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

If a security certificate pops up then click "YES"
Click on "SCAN NOW" then choose your operating System
Download all the "CRITICAL UPDATES AND SERVICE PACKS"

Then try sign into msn messenger

Still not working then do this:

PROCEDURE 1:

1. Double-click on My Computer.
2. Double-click on the C: drive.
3. Double-click on the Program Files folder.
4. Locate and double-click on the NewDotNet folder. If
there is no
folder, please proceed to PROCEDURE 2.
5. Locate and double-click on the uninstall executable; it
will be
labeled uninstallX_XX.exe. ("X" represents the version
number of the
uninstaller)
6. After removal of our software, you may be prompted to
reboot.
Please reboot after removing our software.
7. If this does not fully remove our software, please
proceed to
PROCEDURE 2.

PROCEDURE 2:

1. Double-click on My Computer.
2. Double-click on the C: drive.
3. Double-click on the Windows or Winnt folder.
4. Locate and double-click on the uninstall executable; it
will be
labeled NDNuninstallX_XX.exe. ("X" represents the version
number of the
uninstaller)
5. After removal of our software, you may be prompted to
reboot.
Please reboot after removing our software.

All of the options you gave me I had already done. I am
using a Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall (for
LAN). Does this have something to do with it, and do you
have any other options for me? Thanks
