Hi,

I've looked at the earlier posts but no answer worked for me.
I'm running Windows XP with MSN Messenger Version 6.0.0602
I own a webcam "Canon A100", when I click the web camera settings on my
tools menu, I get a message saying "MSN messenger cannot detect a camera", I
must say that I've used the camera before with version 5 and it worked fine.

Nothing seems to help, what should I do?

Thanks,
Itay

Jonathan, can you send a request through the channels to
add 'Video Conference' as a default button at the top
level? This change has caused endless confusion. Webcam
is nice, but most users seem to think 'Webcam' is a
replacement for Video conferencing.

To do so, click the Actions menu,

Hi Peter,

The 'Video Conference' option is only available in Windows XP, and there are some other
factors which prevented it from having its own button. I'll add it to my list however.

I'm still grappling with the terminology of Webcam vs Video
Conferencing. Can anyone state more precisely how the
two are similar/different?

Hi Jerry,

The 'Webcam' function is a Logitech-based software which is included in MSN Messenger 6. The
quality is excellent, but the framerate isn't nearly as good as the 'Video Conference'
option. The 'Video Conference' option automatically will start Audio (you can add Audio to
the Webcam, but it doesn't start automatically), and it uses the built-in Real-Time
Communication APIs that are in Windows XP for video (the same as what Windows Messenger
uses). As well, the 'Video Conference' option is backward compatible with Windows Messenger,
whereas the 'Webcam' option is only compatible with MSN Messenger 6.
