I am using MSN Explorer V9.50 with my Qwest ISP account, which includes MSN
Messenger. However, I am now receiving a prompt each time I log-on to MSN
that indicates I must upgrade to a newer version of MSN Messenger. However,
after I attempt to download it I get this error message via Windows Live
Installer: System error details: Code 0x80070057, Description: "The
parameter is incorrect" and I then skip this option.

What can I do to successfully install the newer version, if necessary?

In addition to the previous posting, I want to add that my current version of
MSN Messenger is 6.1. I assume this may mean that I must upgrade to the
newer version of Messenger?

Hi Bob,

Are you sure it was 6.1? I don't believe 6.1 has been allowed to sign in for awhile.

Either way, upgrading to 7.0 (which is fully supported on the network) should be an
acceptable workaround. This is not Live Messenger and shouldn't cause so much pain:

Thank you so much for your response. I have linked to the website you
provided, then downloaded and installed MSN Messenger 7.0. It automatically
replaced version 6.1 , which I still had on my PC. I had just replaced my
old PC with a new PC during the past 2 days and downloaded MSN to it (which
included MSN Messenger 6.1 from the Qwest ISP website). Now that MSN
Messenger 7.0 is installed, I no longer get the prompt to install a newer
version that previously caused the error.

However, I meanwhile had also previously downloaded "Windows Messenger" and
found it also works but it advises installing Windows Live, which I do not
want to do now that I have MSN Messenger 7.0 that is working properly.

Thanks again!

It depends on your OS' v8.5 and higher require Vista if you're not running
Vista it won't install.
