Win. Live 8.5 and old MSN Messenger
Greetings all,
I installed Windows Live 8.5. All went fine and it seems working fine.
At the same time old MSN Messenger folder still present and you can run the
old one too???
How can I get rid of it?
I tried suggested:
- removing from Components shows some activities and after finishing old
folder remains intact;
- this command
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
gives me "Access Denied" despite I am running as Administrator ???
- running msicuu.exe doesn't show MSN Messenger at all
Is there any way to remove the old one from the system?
Can I just delete folder and do registry cleanup?
Thanks in advance Tag: Messenger age verification Tag: 92579

Windows Live Messenger will not install (using Vista)
I am trying to install Windows Live Messenger in Windows Vista. I go straight
to the download link from this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=D78F2FF1-79EA-4066-8BA0-DDBED94864FC&displaylang=en
It is version 8.1.0178.
I can get the Windows Live Messenger Setup Wizard open without a problem. I
accept the terms, click next, and make my way to the screen that says
"Installing Windows Live Messenger, Please wait while this wizard installs
Windows Live Messenger. This may take a few minutes."
There's a progress bar. But it's not moving at all! I'll wait about 30
minutes, and the progress is still at 0%.
I've tried clearing out my Internet Explorer temporary files and increasing
the disk space use for temporary internet files (it's at 100 MB). I also
turned off the firewall.
Why does the installation just freeze like that?
Also, when I try to cancel it, the window does not close... Tag: Messenger age verification Tag: 92573

Since monday that my MSN message does not change to others. If I log in as

Best way to install newest WLM on dialup?
It looks like the WLM installer is somekind of online Windows Live download.
Before, I download the old installer, uninstalled MSN Messenger 7, and then
installed WLM offline. What's the best way to do it now?
Also, I remember many things to pick from that I don't think I need on
dialup using the MSN Explorer software. (Like the toolbar, etc) When parts
are absolutely necessary for WLM to function properly? And to let MSN
Explorer and connection center continue to fuction properly?

Virus or Trojan
I accidentlly clicked on a link from a friend in my IM.
Now my IM is sending out links all the time, even though I have uninstalled

It appears to pull part of my IM email and other words to it, making it look

Mobile alerts keeps turning itself on
Hello,
I currently have a cell phone with msn mobile. I have gone into my email
account, and turned off the mobile alerts function, but whenever I log in to
msn on my phone it turns them on again and I'm getting junk mail alerts on my
phone all hours of the day and night even if I'm logged out. Is there a way
to set the alerts to off no matter what? I'm tired of logging in after I'm on
my phone every time just to stop the alerts. If there isn't a way, is there
anyone that you can actually get in touch with around here who would be able
to provide me a solid answer for this? It just seems like I keep getting
kicked around to message boards or faq instead of any contact us route. Tag: Messenger age verification Tag: 92553

Although I don not have messenger running at the time, these processes are
running:

letters as the file is all lowercase letters in the windows folder, where it
says the file is located. Tag: Messenger age verification Tag: 92550

Bug: Message history is lost
Please not that this post is related to, but *not* the same as, "Bug: Message
History not saved until IM window closed."
In cases where my computer does not hang and no application is crashed, I
sometimes lose MSN messenger message history data (the data is not saved).
Examples:
-Shutting down my PC while MSN Messenger is running may cause history data
not to be saved. I did not end task or force quit messenger
-MSN Messenger fails to save multiple concurrent conversations with the same
person. For example, if I am in a conversation with A, B, and C, and I start
another conversation with A, the second conversation with A will not appear
in the message history.
These are just examples that I have noticed in passing; I leave it to
microsoft to detemine specific test cases. I use MSN Messenger to communicate
with co-workers for assignments. It's not critical that the conversations be
recorded, but it is a significant inconvenience when the history feature
fails to preserve a particular conversation, for whatever reason, that I
wanted to view.
Steve's bugfix reported in the other thread that I mentioned above, if
solved, could help alleviate some of these issues. I put in a vote for that
issue, also.
Thanks and HTH

msn link virus?
hello yesterday i received a link from a contact, she didn't send it
to me. It was automatically sent. I thought it was a photo. It was a
link and took me to a page. I made the mistake to put my email and
password there. It seemed like microsoft. It said something like
microsoft photo space or something like that. And when i entered the
mail and password (the ones i sign in msn with) then immediately msn
was signed out and said that I have logged in from another computer
and if i want to log in again from this to click here. I did this
twice beacause i was curious if the site causes it. Does anybody know
anything about it? I searched the history of my explorer but i
couldn't find the page, it had a short but strange url. Something like
my contact's name. That was the way it was sent to me. And then i
think it changed when i clicked it and went to the explorer. Tag: Messenger age verification Tag: 92519

Contacts suddenly being ungrouped
This is the second time that I have meeting with this problem. The solution
given to me by the Microsoft Live Messenger support staff is totally the same
as the old solution given to me last year when I met with this problem too.
My problem: I am using Live Messenger 2008 with my Win Vista Business some
day when all of a sudden, my contacts, that were all grouped into various
contact groups, just got ungrouped into the "Other Contacts".
The same problem was met last year, and the explanation given to me last
year was that I upgraded my Live Messenger version and caused a sync issue
with the server. The solution given to me last year was to do a manual
regrouping of all the 400+ contacts into the 20 groups that I have. The
support staff said last year that there is nothing that can be done on the
server side because the sync issue actually is irreversible. Thats why last
year, I did a manual regroup of all the contacts which was a very tiring job
to do.
This time round, the support staff couldn't provide me with an explanation
on why this problem occurred. The solution that they could provide to me was
the old one that they provided me last year too. After which, I emailed them,
with the solution email that I have gotten last year, asking them why the
same problem occurred twice. This year, the solution email also came with a
backup plan, that is, for me to export my contacts and safe-keep it in case
such incidents happen again. I did propose to them this solution last year
when I met with this problem, because I had another messenger account with
the same contacts and the same groupings. But however, last year, the support
staff told me that even if I export the contacts and import it back into the
account, it will still be ungrouped, and I would still have to do a manual
regrouping of all the contacts. Because of this, I emailed the support staff
to ask why the export and import method was not possible last time, and that
it is now possible? The support staff just replied me, saying that the
information I provided to them about my last year's incident was in 2007 and
based on the older version of the messenger, thus the 2 solutions for the
problem doesn't overlap and is mutually exclusive.
I am quite fed-up with the support staff, taking 9 (NINE) long days before
replying my emails. and furthurmore, because I quoted support staff names in
my emails to them, the replies were all NAME-LESS, which I supposed that the
support staff do not want to take up furthur responsibility about this matter
in future.
I called up Microsoft Singapore, but the technical department told me that
they are quite tied up too. Thus, the only way was for me to email the
support side for solutions. But I told them that the support staff are slow
and not giving me productive solutions, and the technical officer told me to
try posting in MS NewsGroups for solutions.
Please provide me with solutions that can help solve my problems via the
server side and not for me to do manual groupings again. And please also
provide me with solutions to prevent this problem from occurring again.
My Case ID with Microsoft support: SRX1067899749ID (this year's),
SRX1037860176ID (last year's).
Thanks and with regards

How much bandwidth does MSN messenger use when idle?
Hi
How much bandwidth does MSN messenger use when sitting idle (i.e. loaded but
minimised and unused).
The reason is because we have banned Skype for using up too much, and are
looking for an alternative. We have 28 users who's skypes were using 35
gig's of traffic per month, just by leaving it sat minimised at the bottom.
Skype's FAQ says that sitting idle it should take no more than .5 Kb/s, but
our bandwidth monitoring showed it was much higher when multiple Skypes were
running, almost as tho each individual skype was saying "Hi I'm here... and
so is my friend... and so is my other friend... and so is my other
friend...<repeat for all 28 users>".
So at the moment IM is banned until we can find a more bandwidth friendly
method of text messaging someone (voice messaging is banned period).
Anyone know the bandwidth requirements?
Cheers

Problems after installing and then overwriting SP3

installing SP2 over the top of it.
Sadly my system is nowhere near the state it was in before. Since SP3
caused this problem and SP3 intransigence in not allowing me to remove
it in the usual way has caused a lot of problems that would take me 20
mins to list here ... I would like to know where to go in the Microsoft

Any suggestions?

AVG 8.0 corrupted my MSN Messenger 7.0
