    - Problem with MSN 7.0 and Wbcam Hey guys, My webcam works with every program EXCEPT MSN messenger. It recognizes that I have a cam, but doesn't display the image. This is the screen I get. http://www.sfu.ca/~delovett/untitled.jpg It worked with MSN before I unplugged it to use it at a friends house.     - Messenger is wrecking our family! Please help, Messenger is taking over our kids lives. We have always been a family oriented outfit, you know the kind, walking, cinema, holidays etc etc but no the kids spend all day on messenger even though they might have spent the whole day at school with thier friends, they still feel the need to go on messenger to talk about what? Family life in our household has become intolerable, our youngest daughter is like a wild beast if she cannot get on messenger, all of my three kids fight like cat and dog if they cannot get onto one of the pc's in our house. I don't use messenger but I can see that it is a great communication tool but for God's sake please put in some measures to counteract the inbuilt anti family/anti social component.     - Horrible Screeching Noise while using Video My mom bought me this camera for Christmas so that we could talk using MSN Messenger using the video feature. We both have the same exact camera - she bought two at the same time, one for me and one for her - Logitech QuickCam Cordless. What is happening is that we connect and there is this awful screeching noise and I cannot hear her. If she turns down her volume so that she can't hear me, I can hear her and there is no screeching noise. It appears that its only on my end. I have tried moving the speakers across the room from where my webcam is and also tried using a different pair of speakers but neither worked - still get the loud screeching noise. In addition, I tried changing the channel on the webcam to a different channel than what my mom's webcam was set at, but again, still had the screeching noise, but it changed some to a different tone.     - voice problem in video communication I'm having a problem with voice in a video conversation. When the video conversation connects, it works fine on the other end. On my end however, I get no voice. In fact, I get no sound at all (this inlcudes sound from nudges and winks). The video is fine on both ends and the second party can hear my voice. If I instead start a voice only conversation, I can hear the other party fine. I am using MSN Messenger 7.3.0322 (at both ends). I am behind a D-Link DL-614+ router. The second party is connected directly to a broadband modem. I am running XP SP2. My box is configured to use UPNP and the router handles UPNP. I even opened all UDP ports between 5004 and 65535 on the router. These are supposed to be the ports used by MSN Messenger. This had no effect. The hardware is working fine. I have gotten Yahoo Messenger to work (both audio and video). However, MSN Messenger has much better quality. I'd realy like to get it working. Has anyone seem this before? Thoughts?     - MSN Messenger 7.5 crashes for one user only This problem has been happening for about a month, but I only got to try to debug it today. The PC is running Windows XP Pro, SP2. It has three users. One is has administrator privileges while the other two are limited accounts. One of the limited account users can not start up MSN Messenger. It comes up with the standard crash dialog box asking if you want to forward the error to Microsoft. After Messenger crashes in this way, it can still be seen as running using Task Manager (it is in some hung state). The other limited account user and the administrator user both run MSN Messenger fine. Things I have tried: - Log in as user on MSN Messenger on a different computer (works ok) - Log in as user on MSN Messenger on same computer, but using the administrator login (works ok) [It would appear that the user's messenger account is ok] - Uninstall messenger, download latest (7.7.0311), install (made no difference) - Remove user from Windows completely, create user from scratch (made no difference) - Remove all MSN Messenger related registry settings for user and restart (no difference) Has anyone seen this before?     - Video & Single way audio problem... Hi, I'm having a similar problem to the problem reported with "no audio (one way) in video conversation". We've tried an voice conversation (ok). When we do a video conversation I can hear the conversation correctly. I can also adjust the volume bars in either the microphone or the speakers & mute and unmute and we can both see each other ok. However at the other end, they cannot hear me, the slider bar cannot be adjusted and the conversation will either appear as muted or unmuted, but in either case the volume is 0. I've been able to check their settings via remote assistance & also at the pc itself and it seems ok. They are using a DSL modem. A BT Voyager if I remember correctly. I'm using a router - I've enabled uPNP devices and a Hasbani IDG Gateway appear (although has now disappeared after reboot. I'm using a PTI-840 modem. both connecting to BT Yahoo Broadband. (bit worried as I've heard there are security issues with this). Do I need a static IP address? We're both using Outpost firewall and messenger has temporarily been added to trusted... I tried disabling my router firewall, but that made no difference. I'm using a Philips SPC700NC PC Camera. My friend a logitech pro 4000. I tried switching off the QoS setting as suggested in the previous thread & rebooting. to no avail. I don't think I can do port forwarding can I? and I don't think I can use a static IP address as I think BT service does it via DHCP??? Is the problem my side or at their end? I installed messenger 7.5 today (well last night). version 7.5.0.311. They've had messenger installed for a while. Could the problem be at their end? We're both on XPSP2 (me prof, them home).     - removing 7.0 Some time ago, I upgraded from MSN Messenger 7.0 to 7.5 and all seems well. Earlier today, I went to my control panel to remove another program and noticed that Messenger 7.0 still listed on my system. I tried to remove it but couldn't. I wonder if this is because MSN 7.5 is still a beta--at least it was listed as such when I installed it--or does 7.0 have to remain on the system for some reason?     - Audio or Video Not Both I've just installed a Creative Webcam Pro and have MSN Messenger 7.5, my problem is that I start a video conversation and everything comes up but I'm not transmitting any voice to the other party. The video is fine just the voice will not operate. Now when I do the voice conversation the voice part works just fine. It's either one or the other but not both.     - Kill it..... and make it stay dead! Hi all. Installed MSN messenger v7 to talk to my son remotely. I do NOT have it come up unless I start the program. After I shut down the icon memory stub in the toolbar, MSN still exists in memory and can be seen with the task manager. I can kill it there and it's gone. Later I come back and it's loaded itself in memory again. This does not make me happy. I run a hardened system with software and hardware firewalls. My Hosts file is 202K. No programs including Windows automatically check for updates. No programs load automatically when Windows starts other than sound/video drivers. All programs I bring up have to ask permission to get thru the firewall. I don't even let my ISP ping my system. Anyway, you get the idea.     - Creative Labs Web Cam and Norton 2005 I have found that in order to use my Creative Labs Web Cam with MSN Messenger in a video chat session, I have to disable my Norton Internet Security 2005.     - Can't access my hotmail mail Some time ago I started using MSN Messenger and discovered that I needed a Microsoft Passport, and for this I needed a Hotmail e-mail address (what a palaver, uS certainly excel at making a simple task complicated!) I don't use MSN Messenger very often but when I do it tells me that I have e-mail messages. However, when I click on the envelope icon to retrieve these messages I am taken to a web site that tells me about free newsletters and offers, but nothing about my hotmail account.     - How to always make LAN file transfers fast? While I was testing out another problem (resolved now, thanks to great help here) I was reminded of another annoyance I have with MSN Messenger. I wanted to transfer a file from my laptop to this PC. The best way I have used is just via two MSN accounts, where it speeds across, directly from PC to PC, without going over the internet. I did that ages ago and it's terrific, but unfortunately it doesn't always work. It didn't work this time but I was sending it to an alternate MSN client (aMSN) but it often doesn't work and instead of ignoring the net and going via the LAN it crawls along. It's in part amusing and frustrating to see MSN say "Click here to see why transfers are slow" between a laptop sitting 6 inches from this computer. :D Is this problem due to me not having the very latest 6.2 on my laptop? Or is there some way to force MSN to tranfer files via the LAN and not go over the internet, when the two computers are on the same network? Thanks if anybody can help.     - Help - how can I get 6.2 to work again? I had an issue for a while, whereby MSN Messenger would not go to Away properly which I spent today trying to fix. After removing and disabling lots of software (unnecessarily) and trying MSN 7, I found it was due to the screensaver being set to 1 minutes - even though I don't use it, and it was disabled. However, once I had found out the problem, I wanted to go back to using MSN 6.2. MSN7 is absolutely horrible, and the link at the bottom of the Window which I accidentally clicked on repeatedly (clearly that is the point of it) is enough in itself to make me never ever use it. Having uninstalled 7 and reinstalled 6.2, I was surprised and then extremely annoyed to have a popup stating that "to continue" I had to install MSN 7. This is utter nonsense. I had previously been using MSN 6.2, I _still_ can connect with 6.2 on my laptop, and I as of right now I am connected via aMSN, an alternative to MSN. Sorry for the long post but can somebody tell me how to enable me to use 6.2 again? Clearly, it's to do with me having installed 7, which must have placed traces of itself on my PC or in the registry. Whatever happens, I won't use 7, because it's awful. If I can't use 6.2 because of Microsoft outrageously trying to tell me what software I am allowed to use, then I'll use an alternative, or switch to a different system altogether.     - Can't use MSN Messenger on PocketPC Hi all, I'm after some help and I'm hoping this is the place to get it. I have recently got a Windows Mobile PocketPC (the i-mate Jam in case anyone is bothered) which of course has MSN Messenger on it. Unfortunately I can't sign in. When I try it just comes up and says "Check your username and password". I know they are correct because I use the same all the time from my desktop PC. I can successfully browse the internet and sync my Pocket Outloook over GPRS so it isn't due to a lack of connectivity. Are there any pre-requisites to using MSN Messenger on PocketPC?     - msn 7.5 is some weird shit i had been using msn 7.5 since it came out, yesterday evening it went weird. it cleared all the history of all the accounts entered. then got rid of my auto login settings. then i went to type in my hotmail account and it took about 2 seconds for each letter to type in(everything else on my computer is running fine). after finally typing it in i put in my password and pressed sign in. it sais "signing into msn failed because the service is temporarily unavailably". which it is available caus ei can use web messenger. theres probably some easy answer that ive totally neglected.     - Solitaire Showdown Using MSN 7.5 and using a wireless link, my wife and I have played just over 1100 games of Solitaire Showdown - we don't get out much! For some reason the game doesn't seem to load up now. She will invite me to play and my cards load up quite quickly. Hers loads for a while then the MSN butterfly sits and flaps for a minute or so and then informs us that the service is unavailable. I can't think of any significant changes I've made to either PC.     - MSN Messenger mobile settings Hi, I'm trying to get the messenger to reroute to my mobile when I'm offline. I've setup the account on mobile.msn.com. In the options of Messenger on the phone tab, I do not have the Mobile settings option, which allows me to select if I want my contacts to send me text messages on my mobile.     - Strange behaviour of MSN Messenger 7.5 A friend of mine has a new computer with Messenger 7.5 pre-installed. Connecting and logging in into MSN goes fine. After logging in it seems that MSN Messenger wants to connect to something or want to start something. Every two seconds the sandclock appears, then the sandclock disappears for two seconds to reappear after two seconds and so on. Because of this the machine is slowed down a lot.     - Question about logging chats A friend of mine asked me to post this question. His daughter's computer had a chat session on it from a "online buddy" of hers and he was a little upset about what was being said in it ,, from my take of things , it was a little bullying of his daughter , and when he printed and showed the other girls parents they denied that it was there daughter even though it was her screen name ,, they claimed that she wasn't on the computer at the time of the chat and they stated that many of her friends have their daughters screen name and password and that it might have been one of them.     - bloatware, 45mb for what exactly? Why the hell does MSN im require 45mb of ram? I just recently switched from the 7.0 beta version to the 7.5 beta version, only to find it drastically more piggy with resources. Why the extra 50% in memory usage? There was nothing to really justify an im program with more than 16mb of usage. Do we not remember when 7mb of usage with icq was a big deal and people were screaming bloatware? Microsoft, write more efficient software (because this is not efficient software, it lags the hell out of even the newer systems on the market), because if not, I'll be uninstalling your messenger and so will alot of other people when they realize just how piggish your software is. 2 years ago systems were being configured with 128mb of ram (lower end). So your bloatware consumes half of a 2 year old system's resources. I like to game, I can assure you that there's alot of people in the gaming community who are pissed with how inefficiently your xp operating system and other pieces of bloatware handle the resources of our systems, I hate being constantly interupted, and to tell you the truth: I'm uninstalling xp as much as I like some of the extra features, they are simply too costly on the hardware end to justify them, and I've seen software programs do BETTER without taxing my hardware so much, so why is yours so special that it requires so much resources to do the same as other software which uses significantly less? I've been having this problem over the last 2.5 days. It's not my
computer
because it happens to me on other computers, even ones with different
versions of MSN. It does seem related to my account at least because
others
in my list aren't experiencing the issue with others, just with me. The
issue
travels with me from PC to PC. Sometimes people can see my status and
talk to me. Sometimes they can't. At one stage I couldn't initiate a
connection with someone but they could me. Now it's reversed and I can
start conversations with people but they can't
with me.
Can someone please help me?

I'm having the same problem... I appear offline to all my contacts...

They can't see me, but when i inniate conversation with me they can
talk to me, whilst i'm still offline on their msn. Please help! :(
