I have been using Messenger on my computer at work, and it
has generally worked fine up until yesterday... now it
keeps giving me a "Signing in failed because you do not
have the correct UserID and password for your network's
HTTP proxy server" message. I have checked both IE's
browser Internet Options and Messenger's own options, and
all looks fine there... any clue as to what this problem
is and how to fix it?

Try this to see if it resolves your issue.

1) Go to Start menu -> Run, type 'regedit'
2) Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSN Messenger, try deleting
DAConfigVersion and DomainAuthority.
3) Try to sign-in MSN Messenger.

Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks

Your proxy requires you to authenticate. When you open IE, do you have to
enter credentials before you use the web? If so, you need to open
messenger, go to Tools->Options, the Connections tab, check I use a proxy
server, Select HTTP Proxy, and then enter the proxy name and also the same
credentials you use for IE. That should allow you to connect.

No, I never have to enter credentials before entering
Internet Explorer... and this problem never occurred
before this...

Then most likely it is a new bug. I will contact you to learn more about
your network configuration

I have found that many of the IM software create too much
traffic on the Firewall and have disabled their use
through the firewalls that I have control over. Check
with your firewall administator.
