Messenger doesn't even loads

When I try to open MSN Messenger it gives me the box that
says that Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to
close. I've uninstalled it and installed it again and it
doesn't work, I've tried the solutions that Jonathan
usually gives and doesn't work either. I've rebooted in
safe mode and it runs normally, but when I go to normal
mode, it gives me the same message and closes. A cousin of
mine had the same problem but he also had some other issues
with his computer and formatted it and installed MSN
Messenger and it works fine. Im running Windows 98 on the
computer im having problems. If anyone could help me, I
would appreciate it.

ask jonathan kay to give u sum info to delete a registry
key ETC

I ran Hijack This and it gives something like this:
"C:/PROGRAMFILES/MESSENGER/MSN MESSENGER/MSMSGR.EXE"\background
I dont know if I should delete that or not.
