On a XP PC or just use orca to kill the version check? or you could just extract the files
using WinRAR.

Messenger 7.0 for Windows 2000 ain't much different to 7.5 to the average
user but using the method you've described to install later versions is a
good idea - its on your site I assume ?

Looks like somebody already thought of the idea.

The thing about Messenger is you it forces you to upgrade to IE6 which is no
bad thing but it takes awhile if on 56k modem and it doesn't really need
it - its just a way of getting people to upgrade to 6.0 which as I say is no
bad thing.

Upgrade WinRAR, older versions like 3.20 don't have support for msi.

Perhaps you have a corrupt copy? I just grabbed the latest from messenger.msn.com, and it
worked fine.

can you send me the direct link to the msi?

I downloaded mine after searching for "msn messenger" on microsoft.com.
That lead me to an excutable containing the msi file and a
"bootstrap.exe" file.

BR,
BTG

Hi,

That's what I grabbed. You can open the executable in WinRAR to extract the MSI as well.
