    - unable to sign in to my msn & net passport please help for the last week i have been unable to sign in to my msn and net passport, this is a real pain as i cant read any of my hotmail from my pc, but i can gain access via another pc (a friends pc), the error message says no dns and cheek browser settings, but i don't know what my browser should be set on all cookies are allowed and im still having problems, if anyone can help i would be so greatful as this problem is a real pain in the bum. cheers.     - autocomplete sign-in I have found that when the sign-in prompt comes up for messenger, all email addresses that have previously been used from this computer are shown in a drop-down box from the "email address" field. I have "autocomplete" turned off in internet explorer, but the addresses continue to appear in both windows messenger (for XP) and MSN messenger (which I downloaded).     - MEssenger upload problem Hi, Not sure how to explain this problem properly... but I'll try. I'm chatting a mate on msn messenger 6, and choose to send him a file (mp3, zip of photos I've taken etc). After a short while (usually between 1 and 2 Mb of the upload), y internet connection stops working... or at least something seems to set up a block. MSN messenger signs out, and when i try to sign back in it tells me I'm set up through a proxy or a firewall etc... The only way I can solve this is to reboot. The problem only started happening AFTER i installed the latest service pack from Windows Update, and subsequently installed the USB 2.0 Controller using the sp1 drivers (new computer, motherboard CD didn;'t have proper drivers for it)! If my connection cut off, I'd blame that, but, I stay connected to the internet, just can't do anythign with it! When I try to reconnect after disconnecting, I can't and have to reboot. I@m not sure which group should be reading this post, but, as the problem seems to be triggered by sending files in Messenger 6, I'll start here! Any help GRATEFULLY received!!!     - Version 5 and 6 Problem I got MSN 5 at moment and then downloaded MSN 6. When i install or try to uninstall either version i get an error message The fixture you are trying to use is on a network resource which is unavailable. Then the error message wants me to look for the correct MsnMsgs.Msi location I have searched for that on my PC and tried them all but still it says that is wrong one.     - Multiple HTTP Connections I have noticed lately that a number of PC's on my corporate network are making and maintaining as many as 60 simultaneous connections to (presumably) an MSN Messenger server.     - Can't login since upgrading to MSN messenger 6.0 I have combed the archives and haven't found this problem yet. I recently upgraded to 6.0 and haven't been able to log in. All that happens is it goes to the Sign In screen, I enter my username and pass, the icons start rotating like it's going to log in, and then it returns me to the Sign in screen. This is what I've tried so far: 1) shut down the firewall (Agnitum outpost), as well as making sure messenger was allowed 2) removed and re-installed messenger This is getting very frustrating, and I've already posted once with no reply.     - "The system cannot open the device or file specified..." Whether I download the file or install it on line, I get the above error. If I click retry it just keeps giving the same error. If I click cancel I get the message: "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755." I then click on OK and then 'finish' and I get the message box 'MSN messenger set-up has failed with error code 1603......' But however many times I download the file it is the same result. It all started because I could log in with my .NET password on the .NET site but when I tried to use messenger I always got the 'cannot connect' message when there was actually nothing wrong. I therefore uninstalled version 5 and downloaded version 6. First attempts at set-up said I did not have sufficient permissions on 'c:\config...'. but when I looked there was no such file anywhere so I uninstalled and downloaded the new version. Now I get the error in the subject line. I have also set full control to all users and system on everything on C: and subdirectories. Still no joy. Any ideas?     - Exiting from MSN Messenger 6.0 Have just recently taken an educated plunge (totally supported by this newsgroup) and installed MSN Messenger 6.0 in the light of the current Microsoft Messenger Service upgrade requirements. My older, smaller and slower Windows 98 SE, Pentium 200MHz, 64 MB RAM and 56K dialup Internet access is supposed to be insufficient as far as the v6.0 System Requirements are concerned. I'm just delighted, however, to say that v6.0 is currently working quite fine thank you. My question is this. When I sign-off and close MSN Messenger 6.0, the program icon remains in the System Tray by the clock. To get rid of this icon (and the msnmsgr.exe program that is still running in the background) I must then also use the right-click popup, context menu at the icon to EXIT from it. Is there perhaps a tweak or trick that I can use such that it is possible to Close and Exit all in just one step, when I initially Close the program from within the GUI via the File menu or the X button?     - Application sharing? I've long used Application Sharing to assist home employees with their PC problems by being able to monitor their screens.     - cant get rid of ver 5 messenger I had version 5 of messenger. It kept popping up telling me that I needed updates. I went out and installed a new version of messenger 6 thinking this would take care of it. Now I have two versions of messenger showing up by my clock. I can stop verson 6, but everytime I try to close out of version 5 it tells me that there is another application using this and it can't shut down. The only other programs that could be using messenger are outlook express (I found where to disable messenger for this program), Microsoft Outlook and IE ( cant find where to disable it in these programs). How do I uninstall version 5 and where in the office version of outlook and IE do you disable using Messenger. I don't even want messenger running at all. Greetings Samna,

To resolve this problem, close Outlook Express, then download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg

After running/importing, Outlook Express will no longer start Windows Messenger.
