    - No e-mail alerts in messenger I no longer get a popup window telling me when I receive new e-mail messages. This worked fine until recently. I have tried both Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger, and I have tried MSN messenger on two computers -- one with XP and the other with 2000. If I log out and log back in, I get an alert telling me I have new e-mail messages. In addition, the number of e-mail messages in MSN messenger will not update until I log out then log back in to Messenger. Any help would be appreciated.     - File transfer & UPnP NAT - Linksys NR041 Hi, I'm using a Linksys/NetworkEverywhere NR041 DSL Router. The firmware is at the latest version (1.2, release 03). In the router configuration, under "Password" tab, I made sure that the "UPnP" services are enabled. Despite that, in MSN-Messenger 5.0.0543, the Messenger's "Connexion" tab, says that I'm using a direct connexion to the net (no firewall). I can't do any file transfer using that version. Using MSN-Messenger 6.1.0207, the same tab shows that I'm connected using a "non UPnP" device (note the "non"). The file transfer function works, but it's terribly slowwwww. My questions are: 1) Is it possible to use the file transfer function using a NR041 and Messenger 5 ? According to Messenger online help, it should work when the device is UPnP. 2) Why Messenger 6.1 doesn't correctly identify my router as "UPnP" ? 3) Is there any way to make the file transfer function run at a more "normal" speed ?     - Router Issues I've only recently become interested in video conferences having just got broadband. Whilst I'm no expect I am not silly either but it seems that if connections are attempted from behind a NAT router then problems are likely. I have two friends, both on broadband, one with NAT but the other just a conventional firewall and can connect with neither whereas one can connect with another friend though not always with sound working. How the average 'Jo Public' gets it going I haven't a clue.     - Messenger still running after sign-out After I sign-out I get a message that "Messenger is still running so I can that I am still able to receive messages". I see the messenger icon in the tray with a red "x" on it. Do I still appear online/available to others even though I signed out? It didn't seem to do this with previous versions so I presume this a new feature? Is there any way to disable this feature ongoing? I am running XP SP1 with Messenger 6.1. Help appreciated.     - How to block incoming msn trafic externally to msn? I was wondering if there is a way to block messages from your messenger and to the msn server (and vice versa) from a contact in your contact list? I guess all contacts and blocks, rules are stored on the server. I seems too difficult to open each package coming from the msn server and check for that specific contact in the message header and then block the package. Any ideas are welcome. Rune.     - constantly kicked out ot MSN Hi! As soon as I try to send my webcam or accept that of someone else, I am automatically signed out. Instant messenging works.     - auto login messenger Hi y'all, This is regarding MSN 6.1. I ran the registry code to disassociate outlook express and the messenger. It would appear that it did what it was supposed to do. However, when I'm browsing the web, people on my friend's list can see/message me whether I'm logged in to the messenger or not. I've turned off autologin. What else can I do? I have to admit, this program is so deeply embedded in the OS it seems impossible to deal with.     - audio problems with all versions of 6.1 I hate to seem to duplicate old messages that other people have left and where potential solutions have been given but I am at my wits end with this problem. When I have an audio/video conversation with somebody, we can see each other, I can hear them, BUT they cannot hear me. My "little green mic bar" doesn't register anything. Here is what I have tried (found many suggestions here and elsewhere): 1. Unchecked Qos Packet Scheduler under the properties of the connection that I am using. 2. Upnp is automatically enabled under My Computer>Manage 3. SSDP Discovery Service is automatically enabled 4. The ICF under advanced settings in network connection is not checked. 5. I recently uninstalled MSN Messenger 6.1, downloaded it again, went through the whole installation process. 6. Successfully completed the Audio/Video Device Wizard. 7. Downloaded and replaced various versions of rtcdll.dll under the system32 folder. I deleted an older version (as per instructions of another board). When I reinstalled Messenger, it didn't put a new rtcdll.dll file there. Hopefully I haven't done anything permanent here. 8. Even tried Windows Messenger, but it just prompted me to get the most recent version of MSN Messenger (which I already had) Is there anything else I can try? I have a child who is waiting to see his grandparents. We thought this would be a good way to communicate. The above suggestions seem to have helped everyone else.     - Error connecting to .NET Messenger 0x81000301 I just updated 6.0 to 6.1. Have not used the messenger for a while and now I cannot connect. I get the generic message telling me to check for the Internet connection and the code number above. The funny thing is, I was chatting with my brother on version 4.7 within the same session and was able to connect to that version of the Messenger again after 6.0 and 6.1 failed to connect.     - MSN Explorer insists on being the default browser! I prefer to use IE for pretty much all of my browsing. When I go to my Hotmail by clicking on "My E-Mail Inbox" on the pop-up menu on MSN Messenger, my computer uses MSN Explorer instead. Even though I have the checkbox next to "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" checked, it does not bring up a dialog box asking if I want to make it the default when I manually open IE.     - Audio Breaking Up In One Direction I am a new user of MSN Messenger and have managed to establish an audio connection with a friend. The problem is that while my audio sounds OK to him, his audio keeps cutting in and out on my computer. Both microphones seem OK when tested on their own computers.     - WebCam help req'd ... Hello, I recently purchased a Fuji FinePix 2650 digital camera in the hope that it would funtion as both a camera and a web cam. Unfortunately, the latter isn't happening! Windows has no problem in detecting that i have a camera, however it detects it as a storage medie (i now get a g:\ drive) when in PC USB mode. To use as a webcam, i'm told to put in PC USB mode. Again it is detected but when opening MSN Messenger 6.1 it does not recognise my cam. It says "you cannot change your cam settings ... because cam is not plugged in or is being used in vid conversation with another program". The thing is, the cam can be seen with netmeeting no probs but i'd rather have it going thru the MSN!! I have no other applications open, please could you advise a solution. "There are two video features in MSN Messenger 6 (under Windows XP), the 'Webcam' feature, which is a logitech-made component that primary will only work with actual webcams (that is, USB-based, single-function webcams) and the 'Video Conference' feature, which will work with a multitude of devices (DV cameras, video card inputs, etc.). In order to use your DV camera, you'll first need to go through the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard in MSN Messenger 6.1 by clicking the Tools menu, then Audio/Video Tuning Wizard, then opening a conversation window and choosing the Actions menu, then 'Start Video Conference'.     - One way videoconference I'm able to videoconference in only one direction. User A can see himself and send video and audio to User B, but nothing is received. User B can receive video and audio, and see herself. My question is this: Since things work well in one direction, which user's setup is likely to be causing the problem, A or B.     - Incorrect display of mobile capabilities in MSN 6.1 Greetings. I run MSN Messenger 6.1.0203 on Windows XP Pro 5.1.2600 SP1a and have been experiencing problems with the way Messenger displays to others the ability of my account to forward text messages on a mobile phone when I'm offline. Contacts sometimes have this option (when my offline avatar shows a little black handset) and then, at other times, it's unavailable (my offline avatar simply shows that I'm offline). The opposite is also true. Contacts that I know have enabled the option to allow others to send text messages on their mobile device will randomly display this ability. Has anyone else been experiencing this problem? Is this a client or servers-side problem? I'm an MSN subscriber and have attempted to contact Microsoft Network about this, but to no avail (I hope someone from MSN reads this - their customer service has not been impressive lately - my four online service requests have remained unanswered).     - No audio with Messenger 6.1 Hi everybody, I run Windows XP Home Edition, with PC-Cillin for firewall. Like everybody, everything was working fine until I updated to v.6.1... since then, no audio. Basically, Messenger does not manage to connecte to the other PC. What's very frustrating is that I had many friends and family install v.6.1 recently, and it worked fine for everybody BUT me!!! Very frustrating I must admit! Yesterday, I spent some time reading this Newsgroup, and here is what I tried so far: - unchecking the Qos Packet Scheduler (actually, I had to uninstall it on my PC; the box was grayed out and I could not uncheck it). - I switched the UPnP and the SSDP to Automatic - I also tried to open all ports from 5004 to 65535 (eventhough some of those are used by Trojan...) - I turned off the Windows ICF Well, I do not know what to do anymore...     - Messenger loses pictures Hi, MSN Messenger is not keeping the "Display Picture" when we change it from the default to a custom icon. It stays selected and visible once it's been chosen, but if you shut down Messenger and re-start it, or after a re-boot, the picture defaults to one of the supplied versions. Any ideas?     - Annoying 4.6 Please, someone help me and salvage my sanity. After umpteen dozen removals of windows messenger, it still reloads itself on my system. I added the system registry entry, I uninstalled it from windows using control panel, I uninstalled it using RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir% \INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove and it KEEPS COMING BACK.     - Cant Use My Camera in 6.1 Can in Windows Messenger 5.0 I'd like to be able to use my Sonly Video (MiniDV 120BT) camera for a Web Cam. I cna use it in v5.0 and when I select the Start camera I can see the Picture in Picture and the other end receieves me jsut fine. if you have a firewall like Zone alarm set to stop all internet activities
when the screensavers turns on, you just disable this feature
