Consistently over the last week (almost 80% of the time) when I try to play a game with a friend, either she or I get games are not available. We'll try several times before we finally get a connection, but most times we just give up. In the past, our failure rate was reversed - only about 20% of the time we couldn't start a game. This happens at all times of the day. Is there something I can do? We're both on 4mbps internet connections with 2+ ghz computers. We are on the latest version of MSN Messenger.     - Compatibility Problem with new Messenger I tried to download and install the newest MSN Messenger. I opted for the "system check" to make sure my OS is compatible. After the scan completes, I get a message saying "...MSN Explorer detected!" The explanation states that the new messenger doesn't work well with MSN Explorer.     - No sound with MSN messenger Hi, I recently upgraded to MSN Messenger vers 7.5 (build 7.5.0299) french, under XP-Home sp2 also french. I think my correspondants are all with XP-SP2 french but messenger 7.0 (and they have the same problem). I have every options checked in sound properties for messenger and, in control pannel, the sounds found for messenger work fine BUT I did have no sound when I use messenger.     - upgrade from 6.2 to 7.5, using video forces re-boot Greetings, just upgraded to 7.5 from 6.2 (I think it was 6.2, definitely 6.x), and using video conference causes the remote end to hang, forcing a hard reset. OS version is XP SP2, not known if all updates are applied but I don't think they are. My end is fine. We had been using 6.2 for 5 or 6 months with reasonable success. Audio only worked fine, as soon as video is added it can take upto 5 minutes (but has happened at different intervals) before the remote end hangs. The remote end is in Europe, connection is 128Kb up and 256Kb down, no router. My end is in Can 800Kb up and 3000Kb down (on a good day), Dlink wireless router. The person at the other end is not really that computer savy but is able to get by. I guess my question(s) are any guess as to what to check? Are there updates that are required for this to work? This will have to be done via remote assistance, email, or phone. I have checked the web site for his web cam and have downloaded a "potential" driver update that I will send him.     - Security Problems With File Transfers (v7.0) I started receiving file transfers from friends, but when I attempted to open them from the window, Windows automatically deleted them for security reasons. I've found that I have to go the long route by opening up the folder I save the files to and changing the filename. Now Messenger takes consistently 120 seconds from the time the icon appears in the tray to the time it signs in. Another computer with messenger 7.5 on the home LAN continues to work fine. Also I find access to the MSN.ca home page and hotmail sometimes very slow. I am using Rogers Cable Extreme 5000/800. Anyone else experienced this? it's really trying my patience.     - Messenger 7.0 & 7.5 Tiny Window Lockup In MSN Messenger 7.0 and 7.5, when I open up a conversation window (or someone sends me a message, opening up the window for me), it shows up as incredibly narrow, just wide enough to accomodate the display pictures, with no place for the conversation window or the typing area and buttons.     - Messenger 7.0 - WebCam Issue Two persons, both running MSN Messenger 7.0 I have a webcam. I have used it successfully before with another person. My contact does not have a webcam. I have set it up using the menu [tools > webcam settings] where I get a window with a live picture in good condition. I then open a chat window with the other user. I click on WebCam > send my webcam no audio as the other person does not have a webcam. The other person doesn't ever receive an invite, so they cannot accept. Then, if they choose to select [actions > audio/video > more > view my contact's webcam no audio] Then I receive an invitation, and I accept it.     - Connection problem, but not like the others! Hi all! Having suffered big time since v7.1 or something, I now surrender and call for help! ;) My problem is this: MSN Connects - No problem. I can see that the MSN Icon in the task bar changes from Offline (with the red cross on it) into Online mode. The MSN Window itself says "Connecting..." or "Reconnecting...", but nothing happens! I can see on my girlfriend's laptop that I'm actually signing in, but my contacts never load. The MSN Window itself is stuck. If I try to force MSN Messenger to shut down, I might as well just reset my computer, because then everything will crash. No programs will open etc. etc. This is not the only thing that happens: MSN Messenger disconnects my wireless Internet connecting while trying to connect! It simply turns it off until it eventually reconnects, but MSN still won't load my contacts! I can manually fix this problem by "Repairing" my Wireless connection between 8-25 times before I'm actually able to sign in and load the contacts properly! I'm now running version 7.5 hoping that it might have solved the problem, but no go! Using the repair feature in MSN Messenger does not change a thing either. Well you can try removing your client cache and trying again. To do so, click Start, then
Run, then type:
%appdata%\microsoft
and click OK.
