    - Is it possible Ok here's my question: My problem is that one of my friends appeared on my contact list as "my-friends-nick[away]", and she says that just at the given moment she signed on msn, so according to her story: the last time she signed out her status was set to away and somehow Messenger remembered her status and when she signed in again her status was "pre-set" to "away". I've tried the same thing with my msn6 but it didnt work: every time i signed in my status was set to "online" no matter what status i set in the previoous session... the only way that i could make that work is if i BLOCK someone as "away" and then unblock that person then my status would still be "away".... right? Personally i think its a lie but i wanted to check with the microsoft support to see if you have encountered such a problem, Alot of ppl are complaining at the new messenger so i thought it might be due to the buggy messenger.......     - Proxy Problem. Hi, I am new to Messenger, my computer uses a proxy for http services (because I am using a 192.168. IP address.) Is there anyway we can use Messenger or is it just impossible to do so? I tried to go to "Tools -->Options-->Connections" and choose "I am using a proxy". But it still doesn't work.     - Cannot check greyed out inactive status change boxes I believed the Microsoft threats and got MSN Messenger 5.0 for Windows 95 today. Have used Trillian until now. Installing was easy, Microsoft took care of everything - I didn't have to think, not even choose the installation folder. Oh well... So, I got the program up and running - and running - and running.. Hey - it starts by itself every time I restart the computer! Now, I don't like anything that's done automatically without my consent. So, I checked out the Tools -> Options.. changed to how I wanted it to be.. clicked the OK-button, but NO - it won't accept my changes, as it insists on me typing a nuber higher than 1 for the no. of minutes before Messenger changes my status to away when inactive.. But both the box for writing the minutes and the box to check whether I want this option or not are GREYED OUT! I can't do anything. I can't change any options in my Messenger. Makes me looove Microsoft. ;-) Does anyone know what I should do? If not, of course it's back to Trillian. Or maybe I should force all my friends to use the much better ICQ? ;-) Why anyone would want to use Messenger when there's ICQ I never could understand.     - messenger-voice I guess I am not sure I understand this posting. I did a message for a new post this am and it still isn't on. It was regarding the voice on Messenger 6.0 and Xp as the operating system. I can not talk to any one. I use Norton Interent Security firewall but have tried it with out it also. I tried the work arounds suggested ie.(rtc-- files and entering regsvr32 softpub.dll) nothing works. I can talk to AOL IM as long as the other party is a AOL member.     - repost - How to turn off automatic signin? After reading the problems people are having trying to turn on automatic sign-in, I'm surprised to have the opposite problem. I want to turn OFF automatic sign-on. I work at the computer all day and although I really enjoy hearing from my friends, I simply cannot allow my work to be constantly interrupted to have conversations with them. Usually, I start up the computer and MSN messenger is signed off. But often it will sign itself on without my knowledge. I usually don't know that it has happened until I get an instant message from someone, and then I am obliged to interrupt what I'm doing for at least a short conversation. I don't want to block them; I just want to prevent MSN Messenger from signing me on until I tell it to sign me on. That's not unreasonable, is it? It doesn't always do that.     - 6.0 doesn't startup Hi I'm running Windows 98 currently, and up until a little while ago messenger 4.something. I tried upgrading to version 6.0 recently. I followed all the instructions listed, including shutting down all running programs. Installation proceeds normally. After that, nothing.     - Can anyone help on this please?? - Webcam & strange signing out issue I'm experiencing problems with MSN 6 at home. MSN 6 signs me out! This occurs around about a minute after I first sign in. I think the same problem is also preventing me from sending out and receiving Webcam requests. When I receive/send a webcam request it tells me that it's trying to connect, and then I'm guessing it times out and says unable to connect. However I am able to transfer/receive files. I've toggled with the Internet connection firewall and this has not solved the problem. Got all the latest updates etc. tried uninstalling/reinstalling MSN 6 too. Has anyone had any similar problems to this or knows how to resolve this? (Referring to MSN messenger 6.0) Also before i forget, when i am signed out of messenger i am unaware this has happened.     - Outlook performance nosedives after installing MSN 6.0 As instructed to do, we recently upgraded everyone to MSN 6.0. It went fine for about 15 users, but for 4 users it didn't go so well.     - Told sound would be fixed.. It's not, STILL! Ok, I mentioned this problem nd was agreed by MS peeps that the sounds in MSN 6 are F_cked. I play a game, I can't hear being messaged. Someone said to check the option 'Fullscreen blah blah'. That option doesn't exist. So the problem persists and I can't hear incoming messages when I am in a game. Is this going to be fixed sometime soon? I've gone to use ICQ until this problem is rectified for my gaming. It's pointless using MSN 6 when I can't even hear a message come in. Some have said it works only for GL games, but I don't think so. I run both games and it's always the same thing, I get out of the game and I got a bunch of new chats up on my screen that I didn't hear at all. Please fix this.     - MSN6 Locks my ADSL Connection. I got my adsl installed 3 days ago and ever since i have had connection problems. I can run an internet game with no problems at all, but, as soon as i try to use MSN at the same time, the ADSL connection hangs (everything was fine prior to getting adsl, using ISDN). The only way I can get the connection to work again is to restart the computer, otherwise i cannot access the internet via the connection. It happens when ever I use MSN at the same time as any other internet accessing application except IE. For the first time, today I got two pop-ups Saying something about a winsock error (WS_ERR , I think) when attempting to start MSN. I reformatted my computer in desperation, twice in the last 2 days, but this also makes no difference either. Grrrrr.     - Panoramooticons I was trying to make some good emoticons to use in chat with my friends when i was wondering: could be possible to put more emoticons on 1 line to make a bigger one!? Maybe other persons do this, but i tryed by myself and it works, you can create very beautiful emoticons. It's very simple. Make a picture 19pxheight and 95px width, then paste there wathever image you want and resize it. The image needs to be more width than height (of course), or u gonna have bad results. Then cut 5 blocks of 19x19px from that image and name them 1 to 5 (or wahthever). Then create an entry, in the personal emoticons list, for every file you created and you're done. I made some beautiful "panoramoticons" this way. to say that I need to run msn messenger 5.0 or later. I
am running windows 95 and have tried to download 5.0 but
it comes up that there is an internal error '1603. Does
anyone know what is happening and why I can't install the

for all who has the same problem with 4.6 or 4.7, they
can only be deleted when writing following at Start/Run:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%
\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

at least that did the trick for me, I found this on a
legal msn site, but forgot the name of it
