Better notification in Messenger
When a message arrives it just states that, but it would
be better if it in the popup box actually showed as much
of the message as it can. In the case of emails possibly
just sender and subject. That would be very helpful. The
concept would be similar to how my 'Notify' app works:
www.abiro.com/lab/vb.htm.
It would also be good to be able to control how long time
the popup is shown. Yet this is less important as it
anyway disappears after a while. Tag: (OT) to Jonathan Tag: 54566

Error 0x81000301, Getting desperate
Hi there, its been a week now that I've been trying to get
arround this error without any succes. The problem is not
only MSN but some sites too. I noticed Jonathan Kay
respond on some topics, asking if www.amazon.com worked or
not, but he never came back to that.
Well, amazon.com,hotmail.com and other passport(.net/.com)
sites wont work here. I keep getting a page not found
error.
I've tried about everything there is to find about this
error on the Internet. I tried the 8 steps mentioned here,
I tried registerring DLL's, I tried removing TCP/IP and
stuff, I even tried to reinstall Winsock but all without
any succes.
I'm confident that it has something to do with
Winsock/SSL, I just can't found out what it is.
What runs on amazon.com, hotmail.com and passport sites
that keeps getting blocked? I've set cookies to accept
all, I've checked that SSL is enabled, I've added the
sites to the trusted zone and set the security to low.. I
really tried about everything and I'm getting very
desperate.
I hope someone can come up with a solution for this
problem and not working arround it. I'm not gona use
another Messenger, I'm not gona format etc..
Plz help me,
Kind regards, Kevin Tag: (OT) to Jonathan Tag: 54564

Problem Adding New Contacts
On my MSN account "goji_boy_@hotmail.com" I am suffering
the problem that for the past month or little less every
person I attempt to add or who sends me an invitation to
be on their contact list (and vice-versa) gives me an odd
error. I allow them to be on my contact list, and for me
to be on theirs... and then I get a MSN pop-up
saying "blablabla@hotmail.com" could not be unblocked. But
the thing is, I can see them just fine on my list, and
they're not blocked... but they see me as Offline, unless
I talk to them... and even then, when we chat, they see me
as Offline all the time.
What's up? And everytime I open and close MSN, I keep
getting all the invitations from contacts from the day the
whole problem started.
Any ideas? Tag: (OT) to Jonathan Tag: 54555

Odd problem: MSN drops complete internet connection
This problem has been occurring since I re-installed Windows 2000 and
updated MSN Messenger to version 6.2.
The following configuration is being used:
Windows 2000 professional SP4
MSN 6.2
A broadband cable connection using a Motorola SB4200 Modem, connected
directly to the pc via Ethernet. DHCP
ZoneAlarm firewall (problem occurs no matter whether this is on or off
though)
Here's what happens:
connection is up. As far as I have been able to test, most internet
applications work as expected: web browsing, using email, newsgroups,
all work fine. Most of the time it's now possible to login to MSN and
use it without any problems.
When someone logs out of MSN and then logs in again though, the complete
internet connection seems to disappear immediately. MSN tries connecting
for a while, then gives up without an error message of any kind. Web
pages can no longer be visited (all requests time out). All pings to any
server, even the ISP's, time out without any reply. Seems to me that the
connection has died.
I found that a ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew reanimates the
connection, although trying to connect to MSN again immediately kills it
again, even the first time after renewing.
Is this a known problem? I wonder if the problem is located within MSN
or rather within something in the OS. Could it also be a 'fault' of my ISP?
I'm really curious and I'd like to have this problem fixed as well :)

MSN Messenger Keeps Disconnecting
I'm experiencing a problem with my network and msn
messenger. I have about 15 computers and they all see msn
messenger sessions disconnecting and connecting again but
not all at the same time.
My network setup:
DSL connection
DSL Modem using PPPoE
Linksys Wired Router with DHCP
16 Port Switch
Computers connected to the switch or to the Router ports
I had this same configuration for two years now, but
suddently it started to happen this problem.
My Router is a BEFN2PS4 and has the lattest firmware.
I then purchased a new Router.
My new Router is a BEFSR41 V3 with lattest firmware, and
I have the same problem.
I see some info about UPnP but I'm not sure if that
applies to my problem since I read is something about
voice over msn messenger. Please help me resolve this.

Another MSN sound question
I am baffled, but I think I know where the source of this new problem
is.
My friend and I have been chatting for more than a year. We finally
got the cam and voice thing to work pretty well.
We both recently upgraded to 6.2 and immediately, the cam would just
not work. I read many topics and saw that it was a good idea to go
back to 6.1. We both uninstalled 6.2 and installed v6.1.0211.
Everything was working pretty well. Then, we noticed that he would
type messages to me, or me to him, and we would not see it. But the
next thing we would type, we would see. Then he would send the cam and
on the first attempt, I would not see the cam request, but would on
the next request. Sometimes I would never see it, we would both close
MSN Messenger and come back. Then we would see the multiple cancels
and all would work ok. But in all this, audio worked well.
Another poster here recommended running WinsockXPfix. I ran it without
any problems. My friend ran it and he lost access to the internet. It
seems all his TCP/IP settings were changed so that his IP became
static, which is not what is needed by his provider.
We reset the IP, sub mask, gateway, and DNS settings and we got
internet access back. Now all we get in MSN is cam, no sound.
Sound does work with Eyeball Chat.
We both use Windows XP. He is ADSL with no router. I have a Netgear
WGR614v4 router. Either WinsockXPfix affected some setting that now
conflicts with my router or there is another setting we are missing on
my friends end in the Local Area Network TCP/IP setup.
We both have QoS unchecked. I have UPnP enabled. There are no
firewalls.
I have version 5.1.2600.1106 of RTCDLL.DLL. I think he said he has
5.1.2600.1108, but I could be wrong.
Any ideas what it could be? Thanks!
Michael
PS: The WinsockXPfix did not change the problem we were having losing
messages. Tag: (OT) to Jonathan Tag: 54523

up... I haven't got it showing up on either my programs or

Can't connect to msn / hotmail / any passport site
Hey there,
from the home of my parents I'm unable to connect to MSN
with either their PC (which has also been reinstalled
after which it still didn't work) nor with my notebook.
Both machines work -fine- from another location, so it's
not the time, nor the softpub.dll, nor the IE settings.
The only thing between it and the internet is a linux
firewall. However, if I disconnect the firewall and plug
it straight into the PC it still won't work. It appears to
me as we're being blocked on an IP base or something, is
this possible? At my home I have more or less the same
firewall and there it works fine.

Hi! I'm getting a error
0x81000302 We were unable to sign you in to .NET
Messenger Service, possibly because of a problem with the
service or with your Internet connection. Please make
sure that you are connected to the Internet.
I have Msn Messenger 6.2, Windows XP, and have Internet
Explorer 6.0
I have tried the following methods, but they didnt work :
Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK
1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly --
double click the clock verify that the time and date are
set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that
you are typing it in with the correct case (uppercase or
lowercase).
3. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet
Security etc. ),
it's possible that Messenger doesn't have the correct
rights to access the Internet,
especially since you upgraded. You may need to re/add
Messenger to the allowed list of programs
in your firewall if this is the case.
4. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still
may be blocking Messenger -- try restarting it and see if
that helps the situation. You also might try
uninstalling an installed firewall, to verify that it
isn't causing a problem (even if it is
disabled).
5. Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet
Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options,
then click the Delete Files button, and when that's
complete click the Delete Cookies button.
6. Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet
Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options,
then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and
verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is
unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL
3.0' is checked, then click OK.
8. On the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer,
click "Internet Options" then click on "Connections" then
click on "settings" and make sure all the 3 check boxes
are UNTICKED then click OK.

can't sign in to msn messenger error: 0x8100031a
Over the last month or so, i've been unable to sign into msn messenger 90%
of the time. I've been able to sign in very seldom and and pretty much
always able to sign into windows messenger. Most times i'm unable to sign in
to msn messenger, I get the error: 0x8100031a. I've tried a number of fixes
(uninstalling/re-installing, deleting relevant reg keys, changing my
password, enabling specific ports on my d-link router, cleared my
cookies/temp internet files, unchecked 'check for server certificate
revocation', and made sure ssl 2.0 and ssl 3.0 were checked)
I'm totally confused as to why it only works sometimes (these times are few

short time)
