 - My hotmail and space IE window won't pop up !! Guys, I have live msger + IE 7 Sometimes when i tried to active IE window from msn (for example, click email inbox, or send email, or my space or friends space....) ........NOTHING happends!!! no IE window actived. anyone know wuts the problem? Sometimes it does work normal.  - Windows Live disconnecting and lost messages Am currently using Windows Live Messenger Version 8.1 (Build 8.1.0178.00). I had a few problems with MSN Messenger disconnecting me but since I clicked the "Upgrade now" link and got the latest Windows Live Messenger it is frequently disconnecting me from the internet and then reconnects again by itself (with the 30 seconds till reconnect countdown etc). Also I am not getting all the messages through, friends send something and I find I have missed a message, or not all my messages get through they bounce back saying "could not be delivered". I'm on an 8 Meg broadband package and they sent me a new router a couple months ago so I am assuming its got the right software on it (not that I'd know how to change it if it hasn't). Any ideas?.  - Message creation with carriage returns? Windows Live Messenger seems to work more like a chat client than an instant messaging client. I like to type a few lines before sending a message, but if I hit enter in WLM it sends what I've typed so far, and my contact is busy replying "wtf?" while I'm still finishing what I mean to say.  - Live Messenger deletes received files Hi, I received the automatic update of Live Messenger 8.1 (Build 8.1.0178.00). Now when I transfer certain files (.mp3, .mdb, .exe) and I try to open them via the messenger window, it says that the file could be harmfull to my computer and that it has been blocked. I should open the properties of the file and unblock it, but the file is nowhere to be found, it has been deleted from my system. I can understand that users should be protected against harmful files, but I know these files are safe. Live Messenger deletes files from my computer without my permission. I don't even have an option to turn this off and have never been asked if I wanted this option. I found some registry entries on the internet to fix this "problem", but I hope Microsoft wil respond to this in the form of an update in which we can atleast select if we want this "feature".  - Multiple email addresses - One Live profile?? There is something that has plagued me for some time. With Outlook, there is the ability for people to see directly in the message if I am online or not. But this is based purely off the email address of the email message. Therefore, I need to have a a messenger account that is linked with my business email. Then, since I also write personal email, I also need to have a messenger account linked with my personal email address. What I would really like is to have a single Live account. I would then be able to 'link' my personal email address, my business email address, and any other addresses that I feel like to this single Live account. I would then be able to leverage the benefits of Live completely with a single instance of Favorites, a single Space, and everything else. Currently, I run multiple instances of Messenger so that each email address can appear online. Does anyone know if Live can support what I am trying to accomplish?  - animated gif pictures Hi, Just wondering if someone can help me. I got several jpeg pictures, made with a camera, and i would like to make an animated picture for using with msn. Tried already two free programs, downloaded from the internet, but they won't work with msn. That means, when opened by clicking on it, the picture will moving, but when added into msn, it just stops and stay like one picture.  - MSN messages "fowarded" to Yahoo! Messenger Here's the situation, it happened only once but with someone with two accounts talking to me. I was chatting on MSN with that person, and as it happens sometimes, although we both appeared to be on I was received her messages as offline messages (which is pretty irritating when that happens because even when you focus on the window it keeps blinking until you reduce it and bring it back up), and there's some messages from both of her accounts that she sent me, but I never received them on MSN , and I received them more than a day later, on Yahoo. I forgot to say that although this person doesn't use Yahoo! Messenger and that both her accounts are @hotmail.com, my MSN account is @yahoo.fr and I use Yahoo! Messenger with the same email account. So anyways I received these messages as offline messages one day later on my Yahoo account on Trillian (note that I use Trillian only for Yahoo! and that I use Windows Live Messenger 8.0 for MSN, so there was no possible confusion) with her full hotmail email addresses as Yahoo account names, and of course my Yahoo account appeared to be what it normally is, which is the first part of my email address. So, how on earth can (offline) MSN messages not be received by their recipients and rather be received one day later (as I was on Yahoo! all the while) on Yahoo!  - Shared Folder Synchronisation Folder Hi I am very new to Shared Folders operations and need some advice. My friend posted 2 pictures in a newly created Shared Folder between us on 25 January and they are there. Since then I have posted several images to what appears to the same folder, but she cannot see them. Last night she posted another one, and I cannot see that one. I can still my own. The folder window indicates that 'Synchronisation' last took place on 25 January - the date she opened/created the folder. Two questions: 1. The problem is that while my family on the other side can hear me just find, I can't hear any audio from them. The picture quality is great.  - Messenger Causes BSOD Hi, there, Gurus, Got myself a little problem. Since downloading and installing the very latest Windows Live Messenger every time I sign in, it gives me about 2 minutes before crashing into the BSOD. In fact, if I don't exit the program from the System Tray as soon as it appears (it does not automatically sign in) I only get about 5 minutes before crashing. The salient points of the BSOD are that it's a "Bad Pool Caller", whatever that means, and the Technical information is: "*** STOP: 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000cd4, 0x00000000, 0xff25ced4).  - To Change Spanish Headings When I signed into Messenger, the "Contacts" and all of my groups now have headings that are in Spanish. (Exasmple: "Amigos" replaced "Friends", "Familiares" replaced "Family", and so forth). I use the program infrequently, but I do know that the last time I used it, it was in English. I have looked in the "Options>Preferences" tab to no avail. I am running v 4.7. If I uninstall, then reinstall, will I lose all of my preference and contact information that is stored locally on my hard drive?  - display picture problem Until recently I had display pictures of all my live messenger contacts however these have mysteriously disappeared and have been replaced by the 'little blue man'. Some pictures have returned but not the picture the contact was displaying but one of the pre-set pictures (ie the duck).  - Hotmails all it shows is "Done"... My friend is having a problem with MSN... she uses Hotmail and something has happened to screw things up ..... When she logs in to check her emails........her Hotmail setup only has a blank screen without any icons and at the bottom of the screen it shows the word "Done"..  - nickname synching ? Hello when i change my nickname at home with WLM 8.0 or 8.1 and then sign in at work with web messenger, the web messenger uses my old nickname.  - Vista DEP security controls conflict with Messenger I just bought a new computer with Vista installed on it. Since messenger is not installed with Vista, I followed the link in my start menu to download messenger from the website. It installed fine, but when I tried to sign in, I was told that "Messenger has stopped working." When I investigated further, I found that Data Execution Prevention controls will not let messenger run in Vista. When I tried to turn off DEP controls for messenger, I was told that DEP must be turned on for the messenger program. From researching on the net, I know DEP can be turned off through using the command prompt but I would assume that DEP is part of Vista for a good reason.  - Emoticon installation Hello everybody. There are a couple of sites where collections of "free" emoticons can be downloaded. The downloadable file is always (?) an EXE file. Why is that? After someone logs in I know I can disable it through the Tools/Options menu, but I need to have it already off for all new logins.  - Messages not being received (or sent) Window Live Messenger 8.0 Instant Messaging -I have a regular problem with live messaging where i can see my contacts are replying but I do not get the message & I send messages they dont always receive - we are both online & chatting.  - possible virus I received this today from two completely unrelated friend on msn today i hope this isnt you http://improfile.net/members.php?msn&e=MYEMAIL@hotmail.com This downloads a dos based exe which i for obvious reasons have not run even when changing the extention of the file from .com to .bat or .cfg and editing it, it trys to run as a dos based exe. Every time I go to send a person a message, Messenger logs me out, I log back
in and it does the same thing of logging me out as I type a message.

What could cause this issue, I checked my firewall, the settings are correct.

It started happening with version 8.1.

Greetings Dave,

First thing to do is to downgrade back to 8.0 and see if that solves the problem. You can
uninstall 8.1 from Add or Remove Programs, and then grab 8.0 from here:
